  1. My Gen 2 hasn't been out of the box except to look at when I first got it. The Gen 1 used very little. My first Revo was the STXL. Mag only. Reelly like it. (Pun intended.) I don't consider it finicky and have made some of my longest casts with it. I didn't like what I read about Gen 3 Revos and haven't purchased any since. However, you can get a finicky reel in any brand. My first SV spooled Daiwa was such a reel. Had to send it out. Fantastic reel now. Picked up a 'blem' Tatula Elite. To me 'blem' means cosmetic. The internals on this reel are BAD. Rather than return it and pay full price for a new one, I am going to send it to a reel specialist. That way I know it will also be properly cleaned and lube as well as repaired. I always get Carbontex drags installed at the same time I get reels cleaned or upgraded. Cheap worthwhile upgrade. Gen 2 are gold and silver.
  2. I no longer remember, but maybe both were loose when it happened. I realize the cast control puts pressure on the spool. I also realize the drag controls how much pressure it takes to pull line off the spool. I locked the drag down as far as I dared on the Airy Red and was still unable to spool line on the reel. Spool wouldn't turn with the handle.
  3. Like my Shimanos. Especially the 201E7 and Chronarch 100B, but own about 5 times more Daiwas than Shimanos. Lots of aftermarket parts for the Daiwas. Won't be getting rid of either.
  4. Which generation is it? Many feel the Gen 2 was the best reel in its price range. Dual brakes. Gen 1 magnetic only. Don't know about Gen 3 or Gen 4, but imagine Revo stuck with the dual brake system. Far as I'm concerned, one for $100 is a no brainer. Don't like it, then sell. If it's a new reel, you should still be able to make a small profit on it at that price reselling it used. Own Gen 1 and 2, but can't comment on size. I have larger hands (standard large, not huge), and it doesn't seem to bother me which reel I pick up to use. Have 12 different brands. From Pixy or Lew's to older Trion or Zillion size like them all.
  5. I've been fishing more than a few years. Broke one rod trying to get away from the waves created by an inconsiderate boater so I wouldn't get my shoes and compression socks wet.
  6. No experience with that line, but it is well thought of by many. Just came on to you to the forum. Lots of good reading here. Be sure to read some of the stickies. There are how to articles and equipment reviews as well. Lots of good reading if you have the time. Glen puts out quite a few good videos, too.
  7. Admit it. You aren't cheap. You just like the smell of pepperoni.
  8. Don't have the MGL, but I would think casting distance would be greater on that reel. I've read the MGL spools handle light baits pretty good, too. I have a Scorpion 70 (non-MGL). Was a bit more finicky getting dialed in.
  9. Thanks. Need to look at the schematics. Maybe there is a nut on it that needs to be tightened so it won't turn so easily. Or an o-ring or something to keep it in position.
  10. Looks how I like to fill my reels and I use mono mostly.
  11. All I know is that ever time I got a backlash on this reel, the drag star was backed all the way off leaving no tension on the spool allowing it to spin free. Seems to me that would affect backlashes. I also keep cast control tension loose like on all my Daiwas. How do you spool line on your reel without any drag? I couldn't on a used Airy Red Pixy. Had to send reel out for repair. It had a couple missing washers. EDIT: Thanks garr. Think I have at least one box for them. Hopefully at least one set of schematics.....but I don't like tinkering. About all I'll do is change out spools.
  12. Sorry. Drag star. Didn't realize I forgot to put that part in. I've got 3 of these reels. Only does it on this one. Never had a problem with any of my other brands either.
  13. You are talking rods out of my budget unless used or on sale at a hefty discount. Doesn't stop me from reading reviews of them, tho. Exprides said to fish close to many $400 rods. New Zodias Falcon Experts...very sensitive, too. Picked up a couple ALX rods when They were on sale for $175. Love them. Not fancy looking, tho, just solid rods. Fellow member gave me a fantastic deal on an older Orochi Diablo Spec R. Above your price, but a super nice rod. Never seen a Levante. Love my OG Tatulas. Wouldn't mind trying a Rebellion.
  14. I have a similar problem with one of my Purple Alphas reels except the drag star loosens to the point I get a nice backlash if I don't catch it in time. Not to highjack your thread, but if anyone has an idea why it is happening, I am would be glad to hear it.
  15. OP. Something wacky there. Never used that reel...a bit over budget for me, but the only time I've had problems with distance I've blamed the rod and its small guides. Obviously not that in your case. I've read good things about the Tatula Lt. Hope you get it running well. Personally that is under-filled for me. Try filling closer to the bevel and see what happens. Not guaranteeing a thing.
  16. I would never bash someone for trying something different. I like trying different gear. Own 27 brands of rods and 3 customs and 12 brands of reels. Pretty much enjoy them all.
  17. One of my major past times while sitting around here in the hospital is reading fishing forums. Don't need any more gear, but getting the Jones for a couple more rods. Bad timing as none I like are on sale. I hate paying full price. Falcon Head Turner and Amistad are two I want. Originally thought both in the Lowrider line, but maybe I'll go with the head Turner in the Expert line. Another rod that has caught my attention is the Tatula 7'1"ML....and I seldom fish spinning, but this rod sounds great. Then we have the new Victory line and the new and improved Zodias. Geez. Does it ever stop!
  18. Daiwa Legalis lT 1000D 6.4 oz. 6/160 $70 Daiwa Revros LT2000 7.6 OZ. 6/110 $50 Daiwa Regal LT1000D 6.7 oz. 6/160 $60 I bought the older Revros a few years ago for a B-I-L. He is still using it.
  19. My Flip and Pitch rod has never been used for that.....because I don't flip and pitch from shore. I believe that is what the rod was designed for. It is a 7'6" HF Zillion...older model.
  20. I spooled some 10# on a reel I took to Florida with me. Removed the reel that night after getting back to B-I-L's home. Line broke way too easy. Luckily I take an extra couple reels with me.
  21. I've never handled an Epride, but everyone says they fish above price point. More like a $400 rod. In my opinion there is no question which rod is better.
  22. I only have two Helios casting rods, and like them a lot. Bluegrasser86 has commented before about how good Okuma rods are for their price. I wouldn't mind having another or two. I bought one for my fishing B-I-L partner (when visiting Florida) a few years ago. Haven't heard any complaints about it. He is strictly a spinning guy.
  23. And is a reason some people don't like using Fuoro. Get a crimp in the line for any reason, and you stand a good chance of the line breaking.
  24. OP, personally I wouldn't be using anything over 8# on this reel and think I would prefer 6# mono/copolymer. That is what I will be using on similar reels for that type of lure, but my reel will be a standard Pixy. I want the SPR for a rod dedicated for small cranks, but need to find one at my price in good condition. Dodgeguy favoring this line has had me purchase some 20# for skipping around docks. I want to get a couple lighter weights for my normal fishing.
