  1. Or don't fish in old weather below freezing! šŸ˜
  2. Personally can't say this about myself. Really like most, but there are a few rods that I'd rather not use if another rod is available. For reels I don't have one I don't like, but quite a few that I prefer. Choosing one? Nope. One of my very favorite setups to use is one I don't use nearly as much as I like. Aetos 6'6" MLM and PXL Type R. Makes me smile every time. Majority of the time I will have a MHF in hand. Way too hard to pick just one combo. Like a few others, I have several rods and reels that I haven't used yet. ? aka New2BC4Bass
  3. So did I. And third one a few years later. OP: I know nothing about cleaning/repairing reels. Send mine out. I purchased a used Pixy Airy Red a few years ago that came with a couple washers missing. May not be your problem, but possibly worth while to check reel parts against a schematic. My reel didn't have the same problem as yours. I couldn't spool line on it with the drag tightened down as far as possible.
  4. I had them all stored in my basement leaning against 3 walls. Move to a manufactured home in Florida at the end of January. Right now most of them are wrapped in bundles. No reels on them obviously. Very nice. I need something like this. One problem. Normally I only take a reel off to try it on another rod, or to try a different reel on that rod. Not fond of stringing rods either. Rather be casting. Well....two problems. If the reels weren't on a rod, then I would like a place to store them with an easy way to find the desired reel. Not so easy with about 120 reels all together. Plus most still have the box they came in.
  5. OP: Delaware Valley Tackle sponsors this site. Like you, I enjoy trying new gear. It is the only thing that kept me from quitting fishing...again...the last few years. Closing in on 100 counting casting, spinning, and fly rods. Like Eric, I don't have time to enjoy all of them. Like mrpao, I don't much care what species I am catching as long as I am catching. ? I wish I had been more like AlabamaSpothunter, and bought about 6-10 high high end rods. Two reasons why I didn't at the time. 1.) Felt I couldn't spend that kind of money on one rod, and 2.) there are so many good ones out there for people with my (lack of) experience. Couple I wish I hadn't purchased: 7'6" MHF Villain, 7' MHF Airrus XL (my 1st 'good' rod). Once I had purchased a few rods, I came to the conclusion I preferred 7' or longer casting rods. I have a few 6'6" MHF that may never see action again. However, I do love my Aetos 6'6" MLM. Favorites is a tough call. I can say the 6'10" MF Elite Tech Smallmouth, and a couple OG Tatulas make that list. I'm hoping to add a few more to the list now that I've retired. I was more of a reel-aholic, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I tried to even out my rods/reels. At the same time I was fishing less. That means I have both that I've not fished with yet. I buy used, on sale, or closeout items. BTW, I got back into fishing locally in March 2009. Since then I've bought rods/reels throughout the years until the last year. I don't sell although I have given a few away. No. I'm not rich. I've worked part-time plus my regular 40-50 hour week for most of my married life (47 years).
  6. You seem to be asking about two things. 1.) A reel best for pitching. 2.) A reel able to launch a lure into orbit. The SV wouldn't be my first choice for bombing, but...should I ever start pitching...it would definitely be one of my top choices from the reading I've done. Pitching is a skill. Can be done with any reel, but obviously some reels are going to be easier to control than others. Practice is paramount. Your first post said pitching was a priority. If that is truly the case, I'd have to lean towards the SV based on the reading I've done. Recently moved to Florida. Hoping to learn a few more casting techniques as I also retired. However, I've only managed to get out twice for short periods so far. ?
  7. I only have one Dobyns. Not the one listed. I like it. Not always the lightest, but most models are well balanced from what I read. I have several Falcons, but not the Head Turner. All but one are older models. I absolutely don't need any more rods, but the Head Turner is one I want anyway. Best of luck with your decision.
  8. Had it out once when I first got it a few years ago. When I test new gear, I almost always have a spinnerbait tied on because I hate losing lures when I know there is almost zero chance of catching any fish. I had it out 3 days ago with a lightly weighted worm hook and a ribbontail. I kept looking down to make sure line was being retrieved as it felt like I was cranking with an empty spool. I'm thinking I might have to limit the reel to lures with a bit more feedback. How are you using your SV103? BTW, the rod I was using is one of my favorites (RX7 Rainshadow 7' MHF) and is reasonably sensitive. It gives me more feedback with a spinnerbait than other rods of mine that people on here say have good sensitivity. I was surprised at how well the reel performed as it was windy and it's been months since I've been out. Never backlashed or overran once. Even hit tree branches behind me a couple times, but managed to avoid any surprises. ?
  9. That depends on how many you have. If over 50, you probably have a problem.
  10. Really? Good luck with that. ?
  11. Great suggestions. I'd be looking at another MHF after picking up 3 or 4 of the others already mentioned as it is my most used rod type. But that is for where I fish. Others might find a ML spinning rod to be their most used rod. It all depends on where you fish and what lure you like to fish the most.
  12. Vast majority of my MH rods have 12# on them. I usually go lighter on most of my Medium power rods.
  13. You are lucky. Keep both. How would you like to decide which rods to cut from about 25 MHF to 2 MHF rods?
  14. I've always used a Uni Knot, but I've red before that the Snell Knot is an excellent knot for this purpose.
  15. You are one unlucky dude, my friend. ? I've got all those reels except for the BB1 Pro. Out of almost 50 Daiwas the SV105 was the only one I had a problem with. Purchased new and it liked to backlash. I had a pro tune it and now it is a fine reel. I did purchase a 'blem' Daiwa Elite. The 'blem' turned out to be internal so not a 'blem'. Should have never made it through QC. Actually I don't think it got anywhere near QC.
  16. Sorry. Never paid attention to your location. Bit cold there to be fishing. At least for me. Don't need to worry about that anymore as I just moved to Florida. ?
  17. Be sure to give a review.
  18. True. True. True. Glad I stayed in the $100 or less range for so long. Still feel I did good though as I did a lot of research before buying. I do not regret one bit buying the OG Tatula and Fenwick ET Smallmouth rods. Only one Tatula cost me $100. All the other rods in both lines were less. Some less than $80 new. Can't beat that with a 10' stick. ?
  19. Same here. Well.....I used to have a dedicated frog rod I kept in Florida until my youngest brother-in-law stole and sold it along with 6 other casting rods I kept there to support his drug addiction. A ML Hurricane Redbone I kept there was dedicated to treble hooks. I need to assign another rod for frog duty now that I just moved to Florida. Man!!! Am I ever looking forward to actually casting bass instead of just practicing my casting. ?
  20. I'm looking forward to some responses on this rod. I picked up a used one that I haven't mounted a reel on yet.
  21. Very nice. Congratulations.
  22. I want one sooooo bad, but can't justify it either. PhishLI talked me into getting too many other reels before the Zillion came out. ?
  23. I haven't used my Magforce 3D reels a lot, but it is dang near impossible to backlash one. However, as a pro, I'm sure I can if I try hard enough. AND without catching a limb behind me.
  24. Price is critical. I'd love a $600 rod, but that is so far out of my budget that it's laughable. After that I go by reviews on the rod. Not reviews on Amazon, tho. ? I'm not knowledgeable enough to worry about which guides are on the rod. Nor do I worry about what type of seat the rod has. I've only had one rod that caused me pain, and it was the trigger causing the pain. I did get used to it after awhile so that it didn't bother me anymore.
  25. I've had lots of thoughts. I thought I'd get better looking as I got older. I though I'd retire at 65. I though I'd learn to play the piano. I thought I could stay on a diet. I thought I would join a gym. I thought I'd buy a car newer than 5 years old. I thought I'd get out fishing more than I have the past few years. I thought I'd get my spinning rods out. I thought I'd like jig fishing. I thought I'd use my fly rods this coming year. I thought I'd go through my drawers and throw out shirts that have been too small for me for at least 10 years. I thought I'd have more hair. I thought I'd be able to remember thoughts better than I do.
