  1. Hey...I could stand to lose more than a few pounds. Glad you are better. Nice that you got both Tatulas. I am hoping to ship my 7'4" tomorrow or Tuesday down to Florida for fishing with.................wait for it.............................................Frogs!
  2. I didn't want to be the first to say this. Thank you. Hey....somebody has to bust you know what around here.
  3. As kickerfish said....rotate the reels. That is what I do with my combos. I will admit that the past couple years have seen me gravitating towards some more than others, but I own a few more than 6 reels. Not that it does me any good.
  4. Thanks James for the additional information. I really enjoy the Tatula rods I already had.
  5. I thank you for the fine report. I am a bit confused, tho. I thought from an above post of yours and your answer to buzzed bait that you had purchased the 6'10" MHF. I see from your link that you bought the glass cranking rod. I have the 6'10" rod. Last night I was looking to see if I could find a good price on the rod in the TT link you provided...which I also read last night. Best price I found was $118 and change. I'd like to pay less. I did find the 7'1" MH-XF for less than $93. More along the lines of what I prefer to pay. Hey....I didn't get my collection by paying full price. Sorry to hear about the gout. Hope you are better now. I have a Porta-Bote. Put my lower back out 3 times in a short period a few years ago. Took 2 weeks each time before I could walk without pain. Boat hasn't been out since. However, If I get a roof rack for my current sedan, I will try taking it again. Have a lake I want to fish with it. EDIT: Wow. You are awful young to have gout. I thought that was a disease for us older people. I have a book by a guy that was the head of some government agency dealing with plants. He had problems with gout. Apparently it is very painful. He found a couple stalks of celery a day kept him from getting it. I can try to find the book if interested.
  6. How did you make out with the Tatula rod/reel combo? Thoughts. I got the rod over the winter. Still has tags on it.
  7. Like Tom, 6' was a long rod back in the day for me. I still prefer 6' to 6'6" for spinning, but when I got into baitcast reels 7'-7'6" became my favorites although I do have a few below that that I like a lot. Only one is 6'6".
  8. Nice to know. Haven't used mine yet. Bought it hoping for an all around rod that was also very sensitive.
  9. I would love the opportunity to get sick of catching them.
  10. Haven't used my BG yet, but it is a nice looking reel and gets very good reviews. A couple rods I like at $100 are the Fenwick HMG and Hurricane Redbone. For whatever it is worth, I've been told the Ugly Stick is the number one saltwater rod in Florida. Personally I'd rather have the regular Berkley Lightning.
  11. It is possible by the time you add everything up your rigs will weigh the minimum or more. I have zero experience with that rod. My older Hurricane Redbone 7' ML (casting) has the same rating. These are saltwater rods. It will throw a 3/8 oz. popper the proverbial country mile so I feel certain it will do 1/4 oz. at the very least. Only way to know for sure what that rod will do is to try. Good luck.
  12. Short answer...yes. Long answer...obviously lighter baits won't cast as far as a heavier weight. Not all rods will handle listed weights. Some will handle lighter, or heavier, or both. Only way to know is to try. One of my rods is listed as 3/8 oz. on the low end, but the rod will barely cast a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait a decent fishing distance. I tried a lure 1/4 oz. over its high rating, and felt I could only lob the lure as I felt it overloaded the rod. Another rod is listed as 1/8 oz. on the low end, but the seller told me he could cast 1/16 oz. with it. (I can't due do my not so stellar casting abilities.)
  13. Or they get the item drop shipped directly from the company. No garage needed.
  14. Wow. That is a heavy rod. Just goes to show that weight isn't everything.
  15. I found the 7'1" MH-XF for $99.99, but a check for the store's ratings with resellerratings had me passing this deal up. Too bad.
  16. No need to apologize. Same scenario question gets asked all the time. If trees and bushes constrain your casting, then a shorter rod is the way to go. Nothing more frustrating than snagging your lure on the backcast. Or smacking the rod tip on an obstacle behind you.
  17. Congratulations. That Tatula should make for a very versatile rod. Never handled an Argon. How about a review of both rods after you have chance to use them.
  18. You are asking a lot for one rod. However, if you aren't fishing heavy cover I imagine it could be done. I wouldn't want to use my dedicated frog rod for any treble lures (a HF rod). Take a look at the Daiwa Tatula 7'2" MHR. Rod lists for about $150, but you can find it for less on ebay. There is one at $120 right now, but I paid less than $110 for mine. That rod and a Tatula CT reel will keep you within your budget, and you will have a very nice combo that is pretty versatile.
  19. I've received more than 10 rods in tubes that were in good shape. I've also had a couple tubes broken and the rods were still in one piece. I've had a couple tubes broken and the rods were also broken. I've had one tube arrive in perfect shape, but about 4 inches was broken off the rod tip. The seller never wrapped anything around the rod to protect it. Sliding back and forth in the tube isn't good for a rod tip. I also had a rod arrive in a PVC tube with several inches missing off the tip. It may or may not have been caused by poor packing by the seller. No end cap on one end. Just one piece of tape. The rod didn't have enough wrapping around it to keep it from sliding inside the tube. The tip poked a hole through the tape and got snapped off. Some sellers are a bit lazy when it comes to shipping rods. I shipped one rod. A gift to a deserving young man. The rod was wrapped for the full length with the exception of about a foot in front of the handle. A string was tied around the rod handle and the other end was taped on the outside of the tube...for easy removal of the rod. I crossed drilled 2 holes through each end of the tube and end caps. I then ran 1/4-20UNF bolts through the holes and used a washer and nut to bolt the end caps to the tube. That tube wasn't losing an end cap and the rod wasn't going to move inside the tube. Of course I didn't have a way to keep someone from putting it across a couple saw horses and jumping on it. Luckily no one thought to do that so the rod arrived in one piece. OP. I think it was around $20 to ship by USPS.
  20. I made do with one set up for a good many years. Now I wonder how I can do less than 10.
  21. I'm also interested in the differences between Fins braided lines. I want to try it on a Ned Rig rod. Looking at 5# or 8#, but not sure if I should go with Windtamer, XS or Original PRT.
  22. I like the purple one!
  23. I bought the 6'10" MHF after it was too cold to get out so I can't comment on its performance. Bought mine from Jet and I see they still have them for $93.28 with free shipping. I am a fan of the series and this is my 5th Tatula. AFAIC it is a no brainer. I'm sure you can find more than one thing to use the rod for and that you will enjoy it.
