  1. Nice! Nothing beats the opinion of someone that has used a rod. Going by the specs it is not a rod I would have thought to buy for treble lures. It just reinforces the fact that there are no standards, and you have to use a rod to determine its best uses. Thanks for the reply.
  2. The Aird X only comes in a Fast. ww2Farmer would be the guy to give you suggestions based on actual use. I have not used these rods. Going by the specs, I would opt for the 7'3" MH for several of the lures you mentioned. Especially for the frogs and jigs. I used MF for trebles for some time before buying a regular crankbait rod. To be honest, if I were looking for a rod to throw a lot of treble lures yet still be fairly versatile, I'd look for a rod with a Med-Fast action. In all honesty I have to admit I am not familiar with rods in that price range. I have several Falcon rods. None in the HD series, but it is a possible choice. Another poster...from a few years ago...like the Berkley Cherrywood. Hopefully someone with actual experience with rods in that price range will be along to give you a better perspective than I can. Sorry.
  3. ww2Farmer is a fan of the Lightning Shocks, but has become an even bigger fan of the Daiwa Aird X rods. $55 from TW, but maybe you could find them for less on fleabay.
  4. Same here. I have more reels than rods, but the extra reels don't do me any good sitting on a shelf at home. I do take one or two extra reels with me when I visit relation in another state. Last time it came in handy. Had spooled one reel with 10# P-Line Fluoroclear. Line broke too easily so the rod got set aside for the rest of the day, and the reel changed once back at the house. EDIT: I have more reels because I like reels.
  5. It is $350 today. I will have to check it occasionally to see if the price goes down to $300.
  6. No idea why. All I can say is I've snagged 40# and 30# and not had to remove dig ins afterwards. My only suggestion...and it probably isn't needed...is to make sure to keep the braid spooled on tight. Every so often I hold the line while reeling in to make sure it stays packed reasonably tight.
  7. If you hold the rod with your finger under the line in front of the reel, then you won't want the Tatula...or any reel with the TWS. There is a thread on another forum about it. If you use a leader long enough to reel the splice onto the spool, you may not want the TWS. Some people just don't like the TWS. I use both with no problems, but I don't put a finger under the line. Nor do I use long leaders. A long time repair mechanic hates the TWS so he tried a Fuego CT. Did some work on it and says it is a great reel. I have found the Fuego CT for just under $56 without any promo code. You have to keep an eye on the auction site. I think the lowest I've een the Tatula CT is $95, but I haven't been keeping a close eye on its price as I don't need any more reels.
  8. I have more than one. A Procaster 100HN at $30 on closeout. I feel it would have been a bargain at the full $80 price. I picked up a set of 3 Black Max 1600C reels as a package deal for $100 shipped. Not the tightest reels, but the one I have used has amazed me at how well it will cast light lures even head on in a pretty stiff wind. Rods are harder to pick out. I have had a Lightning spinning rod for over 40 years that has caught quite a few fish. No idea what I paid for it. Although I have spinning rods costing a lot more I still grab it most of the time when I feel the need for a spinning rod. It still has the Penn 430SS I bought for the rod back then. I bought a used TD-Z 105H and Fenwick 7' ML HMG combo. Not cheap, but cheap compared to new. I love this combo. I can cast a 3/16 oz. Shad Rap on it with no problem. Seller said he had cast 1/16 oz. with it. I don't have that kind of skill. It is the combo I always grabbed first for light lures. I now have a 6'6" MLM Aetos with PXL that shares the limelight. Heck of a rod for $75. Almost forgot my older Trion. it was a backlashing machine on the first rod I put it on. It came with light braid. Sent it to DVT for cleaning. He told me to use heavier line and cast heavier lures than I had been using with it. Put it on a 6'10" HF and it is a casting machine. Pretty good $45 investment.
  9. Lots of good reels available. Price range?
  10. I don't have the Supreme XT, but smalljaw67 told me they are very good reels for the money. He went and bought a second. I know Dan used to tournament fish and has used some very expensive gear. He has always given me good advice. Personally I have an older Trion (the one with an aluminum frame) and the older blue Patriarch XT. Both perform very well.
  11. Keep an eye open. I have seen them for a few pennies under $56....without a promotion code.
  12. A quick search during lunch turned up a Major Craft Basspara 6'9" M...BPC-692M...for $106. I can live with that length, but would like a few more inches. (Wouldn't we all. ) Do you know of any longer 2-piece rods without getting into those 8' and over? I see KastKing has the Perigee II. I can get a 7' with MH and Medium tips. Anyone use these rods?
  13. Thanks. I checked that rod at ffo last night, but didn't see an option.
  14. I've decided I need a 2-piece casting rod to keep in my trunk. Last night I did a quick search for HMG and Mojo rods. I'd prefer 7' versus 6'6". Couldn't find one. Was also hoping to keep it around $100. Can go the Ardito-TR if it is my only option. Haven't checked ebay. Figured I'd bring this thread back to the top rather than starting a new one. Anyone know if Major Craft offers a 2-piece casting rod?
  15. Nice! Congrats. I think you will enjoy both.
  16. Nice pictures. Nice fish. Nice lake. Why do I have to live where I'm at now? Oh yeah. That's right. I like to eat.
  17. Bought my first baitcast reel in 2009. That winter I sent it and a couple more out to a young man on the forums for cleaning and a little upgrading on two of them. His comment was that I had the spool tension so tight he couldn't cast 1/4 oz. on my Fuego. Told me to run the spools with just enough tension to remove side-to-side play and to fill the spools for best distance. I did as he suggested. Basically those changes required me to learn how to cast all over again. Was worth it. Today I try to run reels from all manufacturers that way. Sometimes I need a little more spool tension due to too much trouble with backlashes. If I had your thumb, I wouldn't need to tighten spool tension.
  18. Give 6# Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Monofilament a try.
  19. I can't do it from anywhere in the lake, but I've caught a few trees in my lifetime.
  20. I haven't looked for a 2-piece rod, but I know Fenwick has several in different models. I like my HMGs a lot.
  21. Mike Lawson of Delaware Valley Tackle cleaned mine. Otherwise it is factory. I don't like to tinker. Should learn though as I have too many reels now to be sending them all out for cleaning. Would almost have a down payment on a boat if I sent them all out at once.
  22. A rod (and reel) you hardly ever see mentioned here. You should give us a review (EastNcBassin too).
  23. Which generation Revo? My Gen1 will bomb lures. Some of my longest casts were made with this reel and a 3/4 oz. spoon, 40# braid and 7' MHF Jupiter. My brother-in-law that I fish with...who only uses spinning gear....thinks baitcast reels cast the furthest. I think Mike is probably right.
