  1. .111 if you just figure since I got back into fishing in '09. .024 if you figure when I first started fishing and subtract the 22 years I didn't fish after moving to this area. Only broke one rod and that was about 2 years after I got back into fishing. Fell face first into a pile of rocks. My favorite rod had 2 pieces (each about 4" long) broke off the tip. Thankfully I had paid less than half the full $279 retail, but I still about
  2. Knot for me. Uni for all lines. OP. Use a lot of mono and co-polymers. Like others...braid on frog rod and rod I use for casting worms into the lily pads. Some braid on spinning reels, but still like mono there too. Big Game, Siege, AN40, Mean Green, 832 and Fins baitcasters. Elite, XL, 832 and Fins spinning.
  3. Ticks me off too. Some do. A lot don't. ?
  4. Is this the gold colored one? I gave $130 a few years ago for a pair (so $65 apiece) that had been refurbished. The seller had been able to take his pick of the ones sitting on the shelf. I probably shouldn't air my lack of skill, but they will cast a #5 Shad Rap just as far as my tuned TD-Z 105H. Distance is what I call pretty good for such a light lure.....given my abilities. I am guessing a good 35 yards. I feel they are well worth what I paid.
  5. First time I have read of such a thing happening, but I've only been on fishing forums since Feb. '09. Slightly over half my reels are Daiwas. Unfortunately none get the use I would love to see. I guess you could use it as an excuse to upgrade your handles to a fancy aftermarket part.
  6. I didn't want to be the first to say this........................but Buy Daiwa!! Just kidding. That is pretty bad customer service. I'd definitely be calling the number Mr. Franco posted.
  7. I don't have that rod, but Mr. Franco is not the only member on here that has said it is a very versatile rod and a favorite of many. The fact you can get a sweet deal on it is reason enough to buy it.
  8. I have reels from at least 9 brands. Rods around 18 different brands.
  9. Rod is not too long. Many prefer over 7' for jigs.
  10. Might have been better to start your own thread. From my reading...and limited experience with them...two of the best abrasion resistant lines are also two with more memory than most. Izorline Platimum and P-Line CXX. Use a line conditioner with them. My experience with McCoy Mean Green is very limited. Am trying it on one reel. Handles very well and is also suppose to be fairly abrasion resistant. I don't fish were a lot of abrasion resistance is required. Big Game is said to have pretty good abrasion resistance. I use it in both 8# and 12# on several reels, but like I said, abrasion isn't something I need to worry about. I also like Silver Thread AN40 and Siege for my fishing. Neon Tangerine makes it easy to see the line.
  11. Wrong. Check "How to" videos Online for Daiwa reels. Watch the video posted by fishnkamp. EDIT: Yes. A rod can keep a lure from going far. It has to load properly. It isn't always about the action either. My older ExtraFast Endurance will cast a long ways. Even so I think some rods are better than others. If I were going for max distance, I would never grab my original Villain casting rod.
  12. People are going to need a lot more information before being able to give you a few good options. Budget? Type of cover fishing? Lure weights? Rod length preference? Any specific brand? Type of lures....are just a few to get you started thinking. Do you fish many treble lures? Do you want a heavier rod for frogs or heavier jigs? Etc. EDIT: BTW to the forum if I haven't already said so.
  13. Got home about 10:30 or shortly thereafter last night from my second job and my 7' Medium casting rod was there waiting for me. I like what little I saw looking it over quickly last night. Feels pretty light. I probably should have ordered two while I had the chance. Suppose to be very nice this weekend. Am going to try to make it to a lake somewhere. Think I will put a light reel on it....a Primmus or Helios Air or maybe go with a little heavier Alphas.
  14. Price of the rod the OP is interested in is $150. OP to the forum. Given the lure weights and cover you are fishing in, I think your leaning towards the MH is a wise decision. I know zero about Spiralite rods. In fact this is the first I had heard the name. I think you should buy one and give the rest of us a review of it.
  15. Wow! Very nice. Can't beat that deal with a 10 foot stick.
  16. The braking system slows the spool down more than any previous braking system...other than the Magforce 3D. That is why the reel is almost foolproof even for beginners, and why it is loved for skipping lures. You probably could throw DC reels into that category, but I know next to nothing about them.
  17. You do realize that Tatula is listed as a Drop Shot rod? A couple years ago I bought the rod sight unseen because the weight range intrigued me. I already had a couple Tatula casting rods and really liked them. I had not read any reviews on the 6'10" MXF. Nor did I know it was a Drop Shot rod until after I got it. I've had it out once. I am a bit leery of the rod tip. I fish from shore and am whipping the lure out there the majority of the time. I was afraid to do that with this rod. I read an article on it not too long ago and the writer mentioned it took him time to trust the tip. Here is a partial quote from one of the reviews posted on TW. "I got the 6'10" mxf which most say is strange but that xfast tip is perfect for target casting anything & skipping FOR ME. This rod is beyond perfect FOR ME blades jigs t-rigs it may not have the power that most want but you don't have to cross their eyes with floro or braid." I'd like to get out with mine some more, but life has been getting in the way. Haven't been out fishing in quite awhile.
  18. Do like I did when a RH Megabass Alphas ito Ai in RH came up for sale at a good price. Learn to use either hand. You won't regret it. You can almost double the amount of money you can spend on reels.
  19. Right hand or Left hand reel? Sierra Trading Post has the left hand Okuma Helios Air for $109. This reel listed for $269.99 before being discontinued.
  20. I don't have a Pro G. Nor have I ever handled one so I can't give you a comparison. TackleTour and bassresource have both reviewed the Helios Air. Check TT Archives for their review. Tackle Warehouse lists the Pro G specs plus Lew's website should have all the specs as well. Most of the Air's specs are listed or mentioned in the TT article.
  21. If you want a Left Hand reel, and if 7.3:1 ratio is okay, and if you aren't fishing saltwater, then do yourself a favor. Go to Sierra Trading Post and order an Okuma Helios Air for $109. These are $270 reels that have been discontinued. You can thank me later. If I didn't already have two, and if I didn't already have about 40 too many reels, I would have already bought a couple more. I've always found it hard to pass up great deals like this. I am learning to control myself though. EDIT: Here is another example of a fine reel being discontinued. Probably because of the rising cost of material. I work in a machine shop. You wouldn't believe how much the cost of material has gone up in the last year or so.
  22. Companies have to put new products out all the time or get left in the dust. Doesn't matter how good the outgoing product was/is. People want new. However, reels such as the TD-Z are favorites of many and many TD-Z owners....including yours truly....would buy them over some of the newer models. Unfortunately the finish is notorious for wearing quickly. Great reels otherwise. Finish didn't stop me from buying my last one, tho. Just like many felt Shimano went downhill with the introduction of the next couple of series after the E models. Now they have got it back together again. Lots of love for the 70 and K series. MGLs are very popular with those having a little extra cash.
  23. PowerPro, SpiderWire Stealth, Gliss, Ghotda, KastKing, Dorisea Extreme, Sunline Saltimate and Fins all come in pink. I bought some Fins Windtamer in pink to try.
  24. Absolutely can use heavier braid. Can also use heavier mono. Listing is a guideline that tells you how much of that weight line the reel holds. A lot of people use between 15#-20# braid. I'm currently using 10# Sufix 832 on one of my spinning reels because it is a small reel with a very shallow spool. The Sufix is equivalent to 4# mono. 10# PowerPro is equivalent to 2# mono. A mite small for my eyes. EDIT: Personally I would go with 15# braid.
  25. I've read a lot of good things about Fred's Magic Stick. The rod I bought for frogs was the Tatula 7'4" HF. It will cast a 1/2 oz. frog, but not bomb it. 5/8 oz. is much better. It will bomb that weight. Low rating is 1/2 oz. I have several Tatula rods and am a big fan of that line. I'm surprised a Fury hasn't been recommended yet. I am also a Daiwa fan, so I think you did good on the reel selection even though my current frog reel is a Shimano Curado 201E7.
