  1. I don't recall ever seeing it before either Both...reel and cast. Some lures can tire out my rod arm. Being able to switching arms is a huge bonus. However, the biggest reason for being able to use both is you aren't denied using a model that is only available in right hand. An even bigger bonus is you don't have to pass on a great deal just because it is not the hand you use. EX. Pflueger had the $200 Patriarch on sale for $80.......available in RH only. Yup. Bought one even though I don't need any more reels.
  2. I haven't been able to pick just one for any of these threads over the last few years. Whenever I try I wind up with a list longer than I'd like. New-2-me not long ago and headed toward the top: Older Steez and Exsence DC. Ones with more use: Zillion 50th Anniversary, PXL Type R, Primmus, Helios Air, TD-Z 105H New in box, but don't see how it could miss my 'favorites' list. Scorpion 71 HG
  3. Any experience with the Supreme XT? Couple years ago a fellow member mentioned how well he liked his. He used to tournament fish and has used some pretty expensive reels. I've got one (new) I plan on taking to Florida at the end of this month. Don't know yet whether to spool with braid or either 12# AN40 or Mean Green.
  4. I have no experience with that reel, but have read several posts about it. Something must be wrong with that particular reel. It happens. My first reel with an SV spool had problems, but was good after a trip to a well know Daiwa tuner. In your case I'd be getting in touch with Shimano. My only DC experience is with an older Exsence. As long as I don't go below Maximum on the brake setting it doesn't require a thumb. No thumb needed on any of the other settings....SP, BB or F.
  5. Would love to try this rod, but can't justify it. I have an OG Tatula 7'4" frog rod I keep in Florida. An ALX Toadface for home, but don't plan on limiting it to just toads and frogs. However.....I know me...and if a good enough deal came up on one I might wind up with a Magic Stick anyway.
  6. I have more MHF casting rods than anything else. Make for good all around rods. But I am not that great with a baitcast reel. I doubt I could cast my #5 Shad Raps on one. Maybe with a Phenix? Like Mike L said...not all MHF rods are equal. I have two 6'6" MHF rods from the same line, but different generations. Newest model is rated to 1 oz. Older model to 2 oz. A quick look at the rod tips will tell you which rod is which. Old model is definitely stouter.
  7. Concept A: Original. Took a bit longer than usual to dial in. I immediately liked how it felt on a rod. Something I don't normally notice. Straight out of box. A fellow member mentioned he cleans his first and has had no problem dialing them in quickly. Revo STX Gen 1: Been a very good reel for me. Often goes to FL with me. 40# braid. Mainly casting worms into slop. Tatula SV; Nice looking reel. Not used enough to form a concrete opinion, but liking it so far. Finish looks tougher than on some of my older Daiwas. Tatula Type R: Original. See Tatula SV comments. Scorpion 71 HG: New. Still in box. Looks very nice. Looks like it should feel as good as the Concept A on a rod. Did I say it was pretty? Tournament Pro: Original. Personally not used it much. I like it, but my youngest (at the time) grandson grabbed it for his use when we go fishing. Palms well. Like the braking system. Alphas SV105: Posted before about this reel. Took a trip to Ian, but is a fine reel now. I went on a buying spree for awhile at the same time my getting out went down. (Happens when working 2 jobs at my age.) As a result a reel only got used a time or two before trying another new one. As an example I have 5 new reels sitting in boxes that I picked up this winter. I don't think more than one of them will go with me to FL later this month. Plan on taking a few previous new ones that have seen very little use.
  8. With the name Steez on it price will be on the high end. Best bet is to look for a Tatula SV on sale or else haunt the used markets.
  9. Was watching a Major League Fishing show this weekend. Guys were in Maine and using a lot of jerkbaits. Don't know the pro's name that was using Abu gear, but he was using the 6'10" ML for jerkbaits and said it made a great jerkbait rod. Personally when I think of ML rods my first thought is finesse. I have never thought of jerkbaits as a finesse technique. Now I've got no idea what size lure he was using, but as luck would have it I happened to have that rod. I was wondering if any of you guys were also using it for jerkbaits. Or any other ML casting rod for that matter. I do realize that Abu rods fish a bit heavy.
  10. Things change. We often only consider the moment when creating a username. I've been using baitcast reels for 10 years now and have about 80 so my username is no longer valid either. Don't know if I can change it, tho.
  11. Congratulations. I have read many good things about the Bantam MGL. Would love to have one, but will have to wait for a good price on a used one. I know you've been burned a few times on used gear, but I've only been burned on two reels....out of 50 or so. Both are now favorites after spending more money on them. Spent the most on the Airy Red...a reel I had been wanting for some time. Missing parts replaced, upgraded with new gears, bearings, drag, etc. and tuned. Was in excellent cosmetic condition so I wasn't too upset about spending the money. Oh yeah. Didn't come the correct spool (seller neglected to mention that), but I now have 2 for it.
  12. You've inherited $5 million from a distant relative in England. All I need from you is $352.67 for the work required by me to take care of all the necessary papers so can receive your inheritance in a timely manner. A cashier's check is preferable. Unfortunately I am in the process of moving to American so my address here is no longer valid. Please send the check in care of my cousin at .......
  13. No. And won't for awhile. Been in the teens every morning this week. I'm too old to enjoy fishing in that kind of weather. Heck. I'm too old to enjoy much of anything.
  14. Another old thread brought back to life. Hey...it's good to reread them sometimes.
  15. Without looking at the reel specs I am going to say yes. A few don't like the T-wing. LargeMouthGambler has posted before about upgrading his Fuego (I gather he doesn't care for T-wings) and how happy he was with the results. Personally I thing a Moderate-Fast would be a good compromise. Majority of my rods are Fast because I'd always read that action made for the best all around rod. I have to say that I really enjoy using my OG Tatulas with the Regular action. The Diablo Spec R is a good all around rod and I'd say its action is very similar to the Regular action of my Daiwa 7'2" MHR.
  16. The reel isn't going to backlash unless you disengaged the spool. You have a serious problem with the reel if you aren't accidentally pressing the clutch down yet it is backlashing.
  17. I'm like LionHeart in that I prefer regular guides over the true micros although for me it is a matter of aesthetics. The tiny guides look ugly. I don't really care that a micro guide weighs .0005 oz. less than a standard guide. Some guides are an in between size....like on ALX rods. I don't mind that size. I am not a leader type of guy with the occasional exceptions. Like on my 5# braid.
  18. Can I ask why? Are you the gentleman that has posted that the ALX rods aren't very sensitive?
  19. I am hoping a few come along with some personal use to share. I know pretty much nothing about Lew's rods. I did pick up a 7'6" MF Ledge/Small Crankbaits rod this winter. It is also an HM85. Have high hopes for it. Never touched an IKOS, but have read some very good reviews. A few even like this line for jigs better than the more expensive Zolo.
  20. I'd put the Elite Tech Smallmouth at the top if Fenwick was still making them. I feel the original Tatula rods were a terrific buy. Especially since I never paid more than $100 for any of mine. The Ark Sniper gets good reviews for the most part. Anytime you can get a $200 rod for $130 it is worth taking a long look at it. I picked up the Sniper 6'10" MF from TW. Not put a reel on it yet, but the reel seat feels good just handling it. The Fury and Mojo are popular rods around here. I don't know anything about the new Endurance, but I am a fan of the one older model I have.
  21. Sportsman's Warehouse has some good deals occasionally. Right now $70 off Tatula CT Type R doesn't look too bad. Walmart prices go up and down so you have to check on a desired item daily. I've bought a couple rods and reels from them at excellent prices. Believe it or not Optics Planet has an occasional deal on rods. Shelton's Clothing & Outdoors also sells on ebay. Check them out if looking for a Powell Inferno. There are a few models left...$80 for $130 rod. Let us not forget Fisherman's Factory Outlet. My $300 rod for $75 and Curado 51E for $98 came from ohya.com, but their fishing stuff right now is almost none existent. Good prices on gun related gear, tho. However, often I just accidentally find these deals while researching. Like the Pflueger reel sale. Was looking for more reviews on the Supreme XT when I found the sale. Posted the link here. Bought another XT ($60 for $150 reel..paid $120 for one a week before ) and a Patriarch $80 for $200 reel). Already have 3 of the older Patriarch XTs so I passed on the $250 reel for $100. I like trying different reels. Wished I could remember the name of the store where I got my last 2 Primmus reels. They also had good deals on several other reels. Got greedy. Bought 2 at $104.10 ($239 reel) before posting link here. Someone else posted back a different link to the same store with the reel going for $98 and change. Oh well. Lots of times I have to specifically add "ebay" to my search to get results from ebay. No idea why.
  22. I've no experience with them, but I read great things about the Daiwa Aird X. Find a post by ww2farmer and send him a PM. I think he has fished with most models and has been very impressed with them. Check out TackleWarehouse reviews. Normally there will be a comment or two telling you how a certain rod is junk even tho most posters are praising it. The only bad comment I found was that one person had to replace the tip as the insert kept falling out. He liked the rod, tho. Another option is to wait for a closeout sale. Some great deals can be had. I've gotten a $200 rod for $69, but my best ever deal was a $300 spinning rod for $75 shipped to my door. If you don't mind used, you can often find one at half the new price. Sometimes even less.
