  1. I was talking to a fishing buddy, and we thought it might be fun to try all of our unused lures--the ones we have never gotten wet. That would take a good year.
  2. Interesting. Some of the old Sturgeon guys illegally use WD40 as a fish attractant in the Northwest.
  3. The reason I brought this up is that I have had several hooks rust on jigs and hard baits. Tried opening the boxes to dry, but this is a humid climate. Thanks for your ideas.
  4. When you change lures, what do you do with the wet ones? My bag has mesh pocket, but hooks hang up. I have stuck them in a piece of pool noodle, but then I hang up, especially on treble hooks. I fish from a kayak with limited space. So far the pool noodle seems my best answer, but still not ideal. Sometimes they end up on the floor of the yak, between my legs--not good.
  5. I think fishing from a kayak has helped me. When fishing from a a kayak you have to plan, you can only paddle so far and you can only take a limited amount of gear. You cannot run and gun. You pick apart structure, because new structure is a paddle trip away. You are in the water and more aware of surroundings. Stealth is easier. I have caught fish under the kayak. I just started bass fishing in late middle age/early old age and come from a trout fishing/fly rod background. It all crosses over. Now, would I buy a big bass boat if I could--of course. But I honestly think wading streams and kayak fishing have helped me become better, because it forces me to plan, slow down and pick apart structure. I may get a bass boat when I get some more kids off of the payroll!
  6. Consistency like that is hard to achieve. Beautiful work and good fish!
  7. "A" for straight shank hooks "B" for offset hooks
  8. If your old carbonlite was perfect, why not just get another one?
  9. I read about the boomerang tool and decided to get one. I am truly impressed. I use a lot of braid and it works very smoothly. This thing is a step ahead of other line cutters. I also like the retractable cable on it. I keep it fastened on my life jacket. just wanted to throw this out there.
  10. Many in shore salt water fishermen use spinning gear. Now you can't use ultralight in the slop very efficiently. Most bass fishermen seem to go on the heavy side, IMHO.
  11. If you can't figure out a whip finish, use a couple half hitches and glue. You need strong scissors for hard materials and fine scissors for thread. A ceramic tube bobbin and a hair stacker. I like to use a good waterproof glue, like lock-tite. You can also use clear finger nail polish. Sally Hansen "hard as nails" is what many salt water fly tyers use. Your vice has to be able to hold the hook while you pull hard. Always pull thread tight. Tie tight. Oh yeah, you need a good lamp or light source. I use a goose neck lamp. Take a fly tying class, if possible.
  12. I fish in a kayak and I keep a piece of pool noodle on the console and hang wet lures on it, to dry. I put dessicant packs from prescriptions in my boxes. I have my lures in plano type boxes, by category and move them to "boat boxes" to fish. I have a bag by bps that holds three planos boxes. Found thin boxes for terminal tackle.
  13. I have a friend who swears by Lews. Watch DSG for deals on Fenwick. My Walmart had some Lews spinning rods and some Abu. Don't forget Ugly Stick.
  14. Maxima chamelean is one I like. I also used Mustad line that I bought out west. Simply fantastic. Both are tough as nails.
  15. How do you pack it when you go fishing? Good organization. I am thinking of using the safety pin idea.
  16. I live on a rez in MS. Just starting to have some cool days (highs in mid 70's to low nineties) and the LMB seem to be focused on shad. My old standby trick worms aren't consistently producing. I have caught a couple nice ones on white spinnerbaits. They seem to be just under the edge of lillypads. Any other recommendations? A lot of the rez is fairly shallow with a lot of vegetation, stained with 2-3ft visibility. Would a ragetail menace work on a swim jig or texas style, swum through? Fluke? Cranks? Jerk bait?
  17. Thanks. I will try them today.
  18. So, do you fish with an exposed hook? I was thinking of using a hook with a wire weedguard, so the hook is outside the bait. Sort of like the old Creme worm harness. I agree with you that it seems like texposing the hook would make it hard to set the hook.
  19. Sorry to be confusing. Some good topics in the archive
  20. Thanks!
  21. The only elaztec (Z-man) products I have used are with a Ned rig. One of my friends gave me a bunch of Z-man stuff, including worms, creatures and flukes. I noticed that the hook is hard to push through. Going to try them, but where I fish an open hook invites constant hang up. Incidently, I have had poor luck with the Ned rig. I do keep all elastec products in their own binder away from other plastics. Any input would be welcome. Do you have trouble setting the hook if texas rigged? How do you rig these baits?
  22. I knew a guy in Wasington who carried a six pack in his backpack and a small fly box in the pocket. He caught a lot of fish and had a lot of fun. Maybe we should carry more beer and less lures!
