  1. I mostly use braid with hybrid leader, or straight braid. Have also used straight fluoro and mono. Not a big difference. I also fish the slop. The braid is supposed to wear easily on rocks. I have rip rap and fish hybrid or mono there. I am trying yo-Zuri hybrid for treble hook baits. I am experimenting with lines.
  2. I also fish from bank or kayak. I have about sixteen 3600 boxes full plus crappie boxes and fly boxes. I can only take a little out. I go back and forth on how to put it together for fishing, whether to have a boat box kind of like what you have, or just take a small bag with a couple boxes for the techniques I want to try that day. This is approaching an existential crisis. I like your approach. I know a guy who keeps one box in his truck with some cherry picked stuff in it. Similar to your set up. Thanks for posting this.
  3. One of my goals is to catch fish every month. So far so good. I seem to buy a lot of stuff when the weather is bad. I drive by DSG and Academy on my way to work. BPS is closeby. Problem
  4. And don't forget H and H spinners.
  5. I fish from a yak. Can only take a small amount at once. I usually try to take something for each part of the water column.
  6. Burn it with speed. Couldn't resist.
  7. When I started with a jig I followed Catt's advice and fished it like a T rig worm, more or less. It worked. Not an expert, but no longer intimidated. Don't over think it.
  8. This year I am gonna try AJ's punching rig.
  9. I think people forget the learning curve required with the old bait casters. Some would birds nest if you looked at them hard, it seemed. I can remember the day when I graduated from a cane pole to a Zebco. I thought I was the man. I had never seen any other kind of reel"in person." I was later excited to get my first spinning reel. Thought I belonged on the show with Marlin Perkins. I now use different reels for different situations. I sometimes use a Johnson century reel when crappie fishing. Nostalgic for me. My Grandfather was so proud of his. I can still remember him taking it out of the box. Yeah, we were poor, like most of our friends, but didn't know it. My wife won't use anything but a spjncast. She can use a spinning reel, but doesn't like it. I bought her the highest end Zebco they make. That thing is super smooth. The last thing I will say is that more deer are killed each year with a 30-30 than any other gun. Best choice?
  10. I use fireline on my UL spinning rods. I like it a lot. Caught it on sale at DSG, so I bought it. Once I find something I like I become pretty brand loyal. Unless there is a great sale! I use Power Pro on my BC.
  11. Yeah, I usually T rig, weightless to 3/8 0z, and start with a Trickworm. I have Anacondas, Ol Monsters, U Vibe, U tale, Fat Max, etc. Try to find something they want.
  12. Cover top, middle and bottom of water column. One slow technique and one fast technique each depth. Dark, light, and colorful. That is 18 lures/techniques.
  13. I am sorting my tackle and discovered that I have 11 different worm types in June bug color. I have a lot of faith in the color and got almost every worm shape I could find. When I first started, an old man at church told me June Bug was THE color. So I figured, in my simple minded way, that all I had to do was figure out the shape they wanted that day. I am not sure if this makes me a color freak, or if it means color doesn't matter to me. Does anyone else employ this strategy?
  14. Another take on color is the way fly tyers do: you tie light, dark and "gaudy," in each pattern. Maybe the lure you have is a "gaudy" one.
  15. My understanding is that the braid used on a BC rod should be equal the diameter of the mono the rod is rated for. Is that correct? For instance, if the rod is rated 10-30 lb line, and my 65 lb braid is roughly that thickness, would it be okay?
  16. I have switched from fluro to Yo Zuri hybrid.
  17. Yes. Was a life guard. Always wear my pfd. I have an inlatable I wear in hot weather and a regular one during cooler weather. One thing I do in my kayak is have my pliers, boomerang, etc all attached to my pfd. That way I have to wear it, and I always have what I need.
  18. I can't tell a lot of difference between them as far as casting and hanling. My fly rods are mostly 4 piece. I have a 3 pc Fenwick spinning rod that I like and a TS BPS BC that I like okay.
  19. I had some z-man minnowz and some zinker z I had cut in half take a set. When I boiled them they got worse. Any tricks? I am not sure the cause, as I had other zinkerz and TRDs stored in the same type binder bags with no issues.
  20. This summer you won't be jealous when its 100'F and 85% humidity for a solid couple months.
