  1. Went through that two years ago. It takes a year to feel normal. He is in for a couple rough weeks, for sure. Prayers sent.
  2. Gotta pay you dues... Fish the other side of the boat. Cast jitterbugs and attract little gators, then get it in before they can get it. Just enjoy being out.
  3. I looked in my bags and sort of realized that I have a lot of "old school baits": jitterbugs, Lucky 13, Rebel popper, Hula poppers, Rapala wooden cranks, Rattle traps ànd Cotton Cordell Lipless, Arkie Jigs, Daredevil and silver spoons, Creme worms .... Does any one else have old school stuff they fish a lot?
  4. A lot of mine are plano. I got some 3700 size trays at Lowe's that I like a lot. Also have some store brand from BPS and Walmart that may be flambeau or plano. I bought some bead boxes for crafters. Jigs fit perfectly. I guess I am not bery brand loyal. I bought a spinner bait box by plano that I like alot. All of mine are the same size so they fit in my bag.
  5. Not trying to be a "Richard", but you need to re-tie often, even if not changing your lure, ànd even if using a snàp. If your line gets abaided ir nicked you could break off a fish. This is especially true if fishing wood, rock, heavy vegetation, and after each fish. I had a nice fish break off on what appeared to be abraided line and now I am diligent about this. The Palomar knot is good, as stated, but the improved clinch or Uni knot work well, also. I use the uni knot on baits with treble hooks because the Palomar gets hung. You can also leave a small loop with the Uni to give the cranks more freedom.
  6. I reel left handed on a spinning rod and fly rod, right on a BC. Cast right. Sometimes I only take junebug plastics. I focus on presentation speed, shape. If I catch a couple on one bait I will change and see if they'll bite something else. I use a Lunker City Salad spoon like a toad I throw weightless with my BC
  7. I usually tie on a leader for this reason. Don't like to cut line.
  8. The same priciple works with Steelhead fly fishing. If one flashes at a topwater waking bait, swing a small dark wet fly. Who knows what goes through a fish's "mind"?
  9. I probably should, but I just turn mine upside down on saw horses and take the seat and electronics off.
  10. I took a big guy out and let him use my bigger kayak. He turtled, twice. Try one before you buy! Make sure you are stable in it. I put an aftermarket seat in mine. Much better. Don't drill a lot of holes until you go a few times. I don't have pedals, rather I paddle. I like the simplicity of a kayak and I like being able to go up in the pads. Good luck and tight lines.
  11. I am no expert, but this is an area that I keep simple. Muddy water: black and blue. Clear warer, black and blue. If black and blue doesn't work, I usually switch techniques. I have some brown jigs with falcon lake craw trailer because it looks so cool, and green pumpkin. The falcon craw was too sexy to resist. I am a sucker for trying new worm colors for some reason, though.
  12. Some solutions will come. The marketplace will develop an affordable online solution, probably similar to turbo tax that will keep up with it and generate electronic filing. Or, mom and pop stores will have to join a digital marketplace that will do this for a fee per transaction. There will be the inevitable scams and data breaches. I hope they keep it level by making any company doing retail here charge this, such as Chinese companies. Face it, the internet sales are huge, times have changed, and states that rely on sales tax need the money. I live in a poor state and we need bridges and education money. I hate paying taxes, but this was inevitable.
  13. A trick I read on BR a while back is to thread your line through one end of a swivel (but not tied on) between your weight and hook. When you put your plastic on and work it over the eye, put your hook through the other end of the swivel and led it slide up to just below the bait. Then put the hook in the bait like any t rig. Keeps the bait from sliding. It works great and seems to have no negative effect on strikes. The other day I told a kid at work to xerox something. They had no clue what that meant. I told them to make a copy. Some days I feel old.
  14. Watch the videos on here. Read everything. Try a plastic worm and learn to feel it. Good luck.
  15. If you don't peg, the bait will flutter behind the weight at a somewhat slower speed. I find I get better feel with a 1/4 - 3/8 oz wt.
  16. Just tie à small hook on a short piece of mono to the hook eye. Bury it in the end of the worm.
  17. Thanks. The problem that I have is that a milk crate won't fit in my yak. Too narrow. Plus my rotator cuff issues and back make it hard to reach back.
  18. Fising from a kayak, I fish muddy to stain, pads, weeds, rip rap and wood. Mostly pads and hydrilla. Setting up a box. I have all my baits in idividual boxes by type: worms by size, creatures, beaver, jig and pig, swimbait , spinner baits, frog, et c. Lately, I take from those boxes to put in my two sided Plano boat box. But, I have done it different ways: 1. Take a couple boxes as they are, 2. Take a little of everything. 3. Take everything I can find in Junebug plastics with terminal gear (worked well, actually). Looking for ideas when I can only take three rods and around 3 x 3700 boxes or a double side. I either have too much crap and confuse myself, or too limited in my choices. What would you do?
  19. You could always try rigging a small stinger hook in the tail. That might reveal what is short striking it. That's how I learned some Saltwater bites.
  20. Havoc baits seem tougher to me.
  21. My fishing is predominately plastic worms, with some jigs, swim baits, spinnerbaits and top waters I usually start with plastics. If I can't get bit after a LONG WHILE, I will try something else. But first I exhaust different sizes, colors, shapes, and retrieves with worms.
  22. Fishing from a kayak teaches you to pick apart an area. I fish alone, looking for the "fat girls." Mostly I fish for mental hygiene. In his book Fishing for Giant Bass, Bill Murphy talks about fishing all day for a 15 minute window. Trying to develop that kind of confidence.
  23. Casting 70% Spinning 20% Fly 10%
