Wow thats tough anywhere. If the lake, pond, river, reservoir has an abundance of wood cover dont be afraid to fish relitivly shallow. TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT to cover with a big jig with a good loud rattle will help. Make several presentations to a target from different angles. Make sure your jig is making good contact with the cover and really get that rattle to work. In cold muddy water these fish will be in the heart of the thick stuff. Dont be affraid to loss a few jigs. Get in fornt of one and GAME OVER. They EAT

Hope this helps, Consistancy is my rule of thumb. These fish will eat all winter long. I fish a lake here in Northern Va all winter long. This may sound crazy but the best days are the cloudy calm days. When the water is as slick as glass. Try main Lake points around major spawning creeks. Target deep rod. I like the dropshot this time of year. small leader maybe 12'' or so and your favorite 4'' finess worm. First thing in morning is the best for me. even before the sun is up. I know this sounds crazy as most think wait till the water warms later in the day. I have caught more fish over five punds in the winter before the sun has crasted the horizon. After the sun has crested there is a small lull in the bite but soon after that it will be on for about 2-4 hours. The key here is slick calm days. I mean 5-7 days for 60 degree weather would have any body of water crackin though.

Hope this helps, All new rods built now with weight reductions, I.E carrot stix, vandetta just to name a couple will be sacraficing how tough they are. Well maybe not a Daiwa Steez as these are in the 500-600 dollar range. Most of these manufacturers know that these rods may break. I have broken 2 carrott sick flippn sticks on hook sets. They replaced them with no questions asked. All i am saying is that the crucial will probably last longer, however i am a fan of the lighter weight rods. They have removed foregrips and made most of these with split grips. The purpose here is to do away with un unnessasary weight. You will have more sesitivity and control and enjoy a vandetta more than the crucial. Go vandetta. Pair it with a revo stx, which in my opinion is the best reel for the money and you will not be sorry.
