  1. Hey Slade, I definitely like my hook to be as straight as possible. Not so much as for hook sets but more for a realistic look to the bait. I tend to use 4 inch straight tail worms like robo worm and some custom hand pours due to there ability to float which helps them to stay straight. I use #4 or #6 owner mosquito hooks and nose hook the bait. The knot is very important, I use the Palomar knot. After tying the Palomar knot I always take my tag end of the line and run it through the eye of the hook again and pull it tight enough that the Palomar knot sits at the top of the hook eye. There are videos on you tube to show the proper steps.
  2. Take any baitcaster you can find [ almost any price ] upgrade the stock spool bearings with dry Boca 7 ceramic bearings or very lightly oiled if you don't like the sound and you'll be casting a mile with no problems.
  3. Never caught one on a plastic worm but did get a 22 pounder on a 1/8th yellow feather jig in the big blue river in Kansas. I was like 15 at the time and was one ell of a fight on 8 pound test line.
  4. Kinda reminds of the movie Buffalo 66 ;D
  5. I'm getting ready to order some treble hooks for my trout swimbaits. I found this site that sells ball bearing treble hooks. Now the big bass will have allot more trouble trying to shake off any big plugs when they're jumpin for the moon 8-).
  6. Thanks everyone for the warm welcoming. Great site love checking out the tips section. Tight lines
  7. I'm just north of you in Torrance
  8. Thanks Neighbor. We'll have to hook up and chase some of those swimbait greenies or jailbirds sometime.
  9. Hi everyone, Just found the site, lookin for an mg reel. I'm located in the sunshine, when its not rainin, in southern California. Been fishing all my life (only thing that keeps me out of trouble). I love to bass fish but that is only when the crappie aren't bitten . I'm originally from San Antonio Texas, father was in the military as I was and got to fish all around the world. Happy New Year everyone and may all of us get our new pers. best bass and I'm tryin to get that world record back home, from either Castaic or Diamond Valley lakes . Scott
