  1. I'll be there from Thursday til Sunday.. Rain or shine.
  2. Fantastic.. Thanks for the reply. I think I am staying more South, so if the wind is bad, that run may not be the best for me in my 18 1/2' boat. But we'll see.
  3. Hello Gentlemen.. I frequently read over at "wanna learn Toledo Bend?", so I decided to come check you guys out. For the first time in like 8 years, I'll be heading to Sam Rayburn this weekend. Since I haven't been there in forever, I'll probably try and stick to one or two area's while I'm there. Where in the heck is "deer stand" and "canyon's" you guys are talking about?
  4. We had a small club tourney on Toledo this weekend. It was a cool 28 degrees when I launched the boat on Saturday in the back of Housen. I caught most of my fish in there all weekend. Like others have said, it looks like they'll explode when the water temps rise a bit. Water temps ranged from 48-53 over the weekend. They were def not shallow yet, but they are getting close! I was able to catch a few on Saturday, including a 6.75. Sunday was a bit tougher for me in the cool rain all day, but I was lucky enough to win our little club deal plus big bass.
  5. I'll be heading up to the Bend on Thursday as I want to witness the historic weather event first hand on the water! Looking like it'll be close to a +/- 40 degree temp drop in 24 hours. Thats impressive! I've fished in a TON of Toledo cold front's, but this one might take the grand prize! I'm fishing a small club tournament on Saturday / Sunday, so it'll be interesting for sure. The "plan" is to stay in Housen / Palo Guacho, but we'll see how that goes. I'll be sure to report back with something for sure.
  6. I'll be heading up there this week from Wednesday thru Sunday. I live in Baton Rouge, so I try to visit the Bend 4-6 times a year when lucky. I'll be fishing mostly in Palo Gaucho / Housen / Negreet ( <--- thats where we are staying). I guess I'll be checking the backs of all of those areas with popper's, spinner baits, sq. bills, and jerk baits. I'll report back and let you know how it goes. Any other tips are welcomed.
  7. I've actually never heard of those 2 areas.. Anyone care to enlighten me?
  8. Well, we didn't have a great weekend, but it definitely could have been worse. On Friday, we ended up with 14 fish with 8 keepers. Caught them early/late on popper/spinner bait/square bill. We were in Palo Gaucho the entire time. All fish were on the edges of grass in 4-6 ft. Water temps were 74-75 everywhere we went. Didn't have a ton of luck in the afternoon, even after backing out and fishing the edges with T-Rig's. Saturday was cold, and we were lucky to catch 8 fish with 4 keepers early. They were all caught on popper/spinner bait. After 9 am, we did not have a fish for the rest of the day, and It wasn't because we weren't trying. Once the front was out, it was done. That's what you get when you travel 4 hours to fish, you fish no matter what. Ha.
  9. It's been 3 years since I've found this thread. It's been an incredible piece of information, and I'm thankful for all of you. With that said, I'm heading up there and will fish Fri-Sun. We'll be staying at Alpine Marina and "plan" to fish Palo Gaucho & Housen, but we'll see how that goes. I'll check back in when we return and let you know how we do.
  10. Yep. We'll be staying next to Shadows. Hopefully, like you said, the wind will cooperate with us and allow us to run the lake.
  11. Seems like yesterday when I found this thread. Although its been like 2 or 3 years. Sad to hear about Catt. Hope he recovers well and is able to fish and teach again. Looks like I'll be fishing the Bend from Friday til Sunday this weekend. I was there in March earlier this year and had a pretty good trip. Fished a lot of the Housen area, Indian Mounds and Palo Guacho. Is it safe for me to assume to hit the backs of coves and creeks by this weekend to target some of the fish moving up? I'm planning on fishing some of the same areas, although I will be staying in Negreet. Doesn't seem like too bad of a boat ride
  12. Alright guys, so the wife and I's anniversary weekend was a success... We stayed at Emerald Cove (which was pretty nice), drove acrosss the bridge and launched at Holly Park marina. Friday we fished that evening for a few hours. I started out on a small grassy point in Corsey creek and caught 10 total with 2 keepers on weightless senkos. They were mostly in 2-4 feet of water and on the edges of the grass line. The wind was next to nothing. Saturday morning was nasty as it was way cooler and drizzling rain. The wife wanted to go anyway, which was awesome. We fished in the back of patroon close to the launch sticking with the grassy banks and points. We picked up 6 with a keeper before it started raining a little harder and we weren't dressed for the rain. That evening was a little different. The wind picked up and thats when we started throwing spinners and 1.5 RC's.We caught a few on each. It was our most productive outing. Same deal, edges of grass on wind blown banks. The wife even boated her biggest ever, 3 1/2 lbs. Sunday we fished for an hour and a half in the back of patroon again, we caught 6 with 2 keepers on spinners. That made our weekend total of 30 with 7 keepers. Thanks to everyone for the info. I love this thread. Spinnerbaits were Stanley Compact 3/8 oz Chart/White Senkos were black and blue laminate RC was white shad IMG_0208 by A Pure Hobby, on Flickr IMG_0210 by A Pure Hobby, on Flickr IMG_0217 by A Pure Hobby, on Flickr
  13. Well, we leave early Friday morning for Toledo where we'll be staying a little north of the Pendleton bridge. Weather looks like: Friday 73/53 20% chance of rain Saturday 70/48 40% Sunday 67/53 40% Since my wife will be with me, quanity is way more important than quality. Hopefully I can get her chunking a spinnerbait so she can pick up a few, although she's not scared of a t-rig. I'll be sure to post a full report when we get back
  14. I'll have to get the map out and check it out. I really appreciate it as this is the 2nd time you've helped me out.
  15. Not sure if it's considered a marina, but the place we'll be staying is called emerald cove.
