  1. Anyone been on the water this week??
  2. It is WINDY up here guys! We've caught quite a few topwater fish early and late in the day, but really struggle during the daylight hours. Pretty frustrating. Only certain places out of the wind and those all have 20 boats in them. Still catching them early and late though. Had an opportunity for a fish I estimate at 7 lbs but it jumped off 5 feet from the boat and threw my popper back at me. Other than that, had a few 3-4 lbers. Fishing again this afternoon and tomorrow morning, we'll see what we can do. Justin
  3. Thanks for the tips! I'll let y'all all know how it goes when I get back on Sunday. Justin
  4. Can you guys give me a few tips for this weekend? I'll be back up there Thursday - Sunday and I'll be taking quite a few people fishing who don't fish all that much. So looking for more action than we are big fish. Just looking to catch as many bass as possible. Suggestions? I was up there a couple weeks ago..but the weather has been consistently warm ever since we left, so I'm sure the fish will be completely postspawn/early summer patterns, right? Thanks in advance! Justin
  5. I've been reading this thread for a long time and I've posted a few times as well..invaluable information. Figured I'd share my report from the last several days. I was there Thursday - Sunday for fishing and to watch the Elite Series guys. Here's what happened for us in our boat.. Thursday - 40 fish total, 15 keepers. Fished Palo Gaucho. Caught fish on so many different baits that day...Pop-R early, senkos and brush hogs a little later, traps after that, then spinnerbaits in the late afternoon Friday - 33 fish total, 11 keepers. Fished Indian Mounds area in the morning, caught 25 fish with 8 keepers in that area. Caught pop-R fish early, then all the rest of our fish came on traps near a main lake point where we found them grouped up. Fished Palo Gaucho again in the late afternoon, caught 8 more with 3 more keepers mostly on spinnerbaits and brush hogs. Saturday - 18 fish total, 5 keepers. Fished Palo Gaucho area in the morning and caught majority of our fish on spinnerbaits early(no pop-R fish), then plastics, then traps. Lost two BIG fish that morning, one on a spinnerbait that pulled off and one on a trap where I couldn't turn the fish and it wrapped me up in a tree and popped off. Caught 15 fish with 3 keepers in Palo that morning. Fished Negreet area late that afternoon and caught 3 fish with 2 keepers there, 2 on traps and 1 on spinnerbait. Sunday morning only - 18 fish total, 5 keepers. Fished Palo Gaucho area again and caught most of our fish on senkos and RC shallow crankbaits. Totals.. 109 fish, 36 keepers. We didn't have any big fish other than several in the 3 lb class. I lost my two chances at big fish Saturday morning. Our patterns were basically points and secondary points and covering water. I saw water temps as high as 76 degrees Thursday and Friday and as low as 69 degrees Sunday morning. Had a great time at the Bend and learned a lot! Can't wait to go back. Luckily, I'll be back in 2 weeks for another go at it. Best Lures: 1/2 oz Gold Shad Rat-L-Trap 1/2 oz Stanley Double Willow Spinnerbait(white) 1/4 oz Xcalibur ZellPop(shad) Wat/red brush hog Wat/red senko
  6. Yea, I figured with Harold Allen in 1st place, they had probably caught their fish on something slow..jig or worm The 2nd place guys apparently had some custom painted traps..I wonder what color they were using....
  7. I'm guessing that's some sort of hint as to where the tournament teams caught their fish? Recent tournament.. 1st - 30+ lbs 2nd - 29+ lbs 3rd - 26 lbs(these guys caught an 11 lber in practice) 4th - 25 lbs
  8. Back from Toledo, in 9 hours of fishing, me and a buddy caught 53 with 16 keepers... Saturday morning - fished from 7AM - 1PM and caught 36 with 11 keepers. Majority of these came on SBs on wind blown banks. We were fishing just north of the Pendleton on the TX side. White spinnerbaits seemed to work best. Pattern was grass mats on wind blown banks, could almost call your shot. We had 4 or 5 productive banks/stretches that we kept rotating through. Watched the LSU game........ > then.. Saturday night - fished from 7PM - 8:30PM and caught 6 with 4 more keepers. We fished in the Negreet area around some islands. Caught these fish on buzzbaits. Sunday morning - only fished an hour and a half from 7AM - 8:30AM and caught 11 with 1 more keeper in the Turtle Beach area. Caught these on just about everything from spinnerbaits, to texas rigged brush hogs, to senkos, trick worms, and buzzbaits. Didn't have much size to the fish we caught..but it was fun to catch so many! Best 5 went about 15-15.5 lbs.
  9. 944? :-? I'll be up there tomorrow and Sunday.. I think it's my 4th or 5th trip to Toledo, ever. No idea what 944 is..
  10. Yea we don't know where to find 3' scattered buckbrush that ain't on the bank So we did the best we could : Oh..and to add to my report from earlier...water temps we found while we were there ranged from about 50-55 degrees for the most part. We did see some temps a little above 55 in the back of a pocket off of Turtle Beach area in Negreet..but for the most part, 55 was about the highest temp we found in the afternoons. Justin
  11. Well, we had 9 guys on the trip with us. So 14 bass a day for 9 guys = not exactly great. ;D But we did catch them alright. Most of what we fished was grassy points/secondary points..the fish we did catch there were never hugged up to the bank, so we figured running points might be our best bet. Most of the fish we caught came in about 5-8' of water with traps around hydrilla. We saw a ton of suspended fish in the grass on our graph the entire trip..every time we'd get in anywhere from 8-14' of water where there was submerged hydrilla, the fish would be all over it..just couldn't get em to bite. We tried backing way off and fishing plastics slowly through those areas, tried cranking them, nothing worked on those suspended fish. We didn't fish shallow much..especially not in the very back of coves/pockets. Again, with so many fish graphed in 8-14' of water suspended in grass, we didn't figure the fish would be in 3' of water around all that buckbrush we could see on the bank. We tried that some, but never even got bit shallow. Justin
  12. Well, kind of weird to me, but the fishing was better last year when we fished Toledo and we fished in 40 degree weather + rain every single day we were there last year at this same time. We fished from the 4th - 7th, this is how it went for my boat: Thursday - fished near where we stayed at Alpine in Palo Gaucho most of the day and it was MUDDY in there! That was the worst water I saw the whole weekend...and of course it's the creek we decide to stay in! But we fished from morning until lunch, then took a break, and fished from about 2:00 until 3:00 in Palo Gaucho and only caught 2 that morning...1 on a senko and 1 on a trap..both ~15" fish. Then we moved over to Lowe's Creek to fish the afternoon and were able to pick up 2 more fish on back to back casts off of a grassy point with traps(gold/black and rayburn red). That was it for Thursday..3 people fishing my boat and 4 fish caught, 3 on traps, 1 on senko. Friday - we knew we wanted to seek out some better looking water, so we ran across to the only other creek we know pretty well, that's the Negreet area. So we ran across the lake and fished over there and it was better than Thursday. Only 2 people in my boat that day and we only caught about 5 fish that day..all on traps and all off of 1 point in a cove off the main creek that has deep water. Still using the same gold/black traps mostly...that's all we could get a bite on..as much as tried to force feed them plastics Some other boats in our crew caught em better that day though, so it gave us some hope..a few of the other boats caught 10-14 fish, something like that...with a few decent ones mixed in(2.5-3.5 lbers). All with the same story..only thing they could get bit on was traps...and that the fish came from grassy points/areas. Saturday - this was the best day my Dad and I had in our boat. We didn't even really fish the afternoon, but we caught 12 fish with 7 or 8 keepers..again, all on traps. Caught a 4 lb 3 ozer that day too, which I know isn't a giant for T-Bend, but a fun fish to catch anyway And I caught it fishing right behind one of the other boats in our crew, so it was a satisfying fish to catch ;D But we caught 11 of those 12 fish within the first probably 2-2.5 hours of fishing that day. We had a milk run of about 5 spots in Negreet that we fished for just a few minutes each and we caught some off of each one. We had some stuff to take care of that afternoon, so we didn't get to fish much then. Some other boats went south and fished housen and caught a few that afternoon though, mostly small..but did get a 4-08 on a buzzbait. Sunday - only fished from about 7:30AM until about 9:30AM in Negreet and we caught 8 fish, 7 keepers. No real big ones..caught a couple of 2.5 lbers. The other group of 4 went south and fished Housen and I think they said they had about 13 fish on various reaction baits like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, frogs, traps, etc..and a few on worms. They did catch a 5-00 on a spinnerbait too, other than that, smaller fish though. That group fished from morning until about 11:15 I believe..so they were out there a bit longer. Overall, it was a decent trip. Had 3 nice ones caught over 4 lbs...a 5-00, 4-08, and a 4-03 on a spinnerbait, buzzbait, and trap respectively. I wish we could have found a plastics bite somewhere...we caught the majority of our fish on plastics last year fishing in 40 degree weather with rain..go figure. But this year, other than in Housen the last afternoon/morning, if you weren't throwing a trap, you weren't catchin' fish. Needless to say, I made a million casts this past weekend Justin
  13. Now Leave us a few CATT!! Great info about the water coming up almost 2 feet in the last 10 days! That combined with sunday's full moon and rising temps should move some more fish further up shallow, makes sense to me! Thanks again!! Justin
  14. We'll be staying at Alpine, so we'll be fishing the Palo Gaucho area quite a bit..also probably will fish the Negreet area, those are the two areas we're most familiar with. We do plan to explore some new areas further north this year though..maybe over in San Miguel, the "1215 area", and maybe even more north than that. We'll see. But those are the main areas.. Justin
  15. Leaving Thursday morning at 2:30AM from BR to head to Toledo until Sunday afternoon! Can't wait! Looks like we're going to get chilly mornings with lows anywhere from mid 30s to low 40s, but highs each day in the mid 60s while we're there...with a lot of sunshine. Full moon was this past Sunday night too, so I'm guessing there will be some fish shallow and that we should have a pretty good afternoon bite each day. We'll see I guess. If anyone has some last minute advice/info for us, that would be great. I only get to make maybe 2 trips to Toledo per year, I like to make them count. Thanks!
  16. Been checking out that extended forecast quite a bit for March 4th-7th Lookin' good right now, but it could change, so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet..but I sure hope this forecast pans out.. 3/4 = 62/40, 10% chance of rain, mostly sunny 3/5 = 62/44, 10% chance of rain, mostly cloudy 3/6 = 65/43, 60% chance of rain, showers 3/7 = 66/48, 20% chance of rain, partly cloudy Lookin' goooooood 8-) 8-) 8-) Justin
  17. I'll be up there next weekend from March 4th - 7th(Thursday - Sunday). Looking at the 10-day forecast, it looks like no major front is supposed to hit after this one tonight until then...so I'm hoping we catch em pretty good. I know 10 days out can't be that accurate, but it's showing a high of 61 for our first day there..that's as far as the forecast goes. But it looks like a warming trend thereafter.. We'll be staying and fishing around the Palo Gaucho area mostly, but probably will fish the Negreet area and some areas up north as well. Only my 3rd serious trip to the Bend..can't wait! Justin
  18. yozuri makes one with that exact color combo.... black back/gold sides/orange belly... i bought one at bass pro this past week..because of what i read on Catt's posts Justin
  19. 12.8 lbs ..... 12.4 lbs ..... ;) :o Those are twice as big as my PB! I can't imagine having a bass 10 or over on my line..I still freak out with 5s! :-[ Hopefully this thread will help me get on some of those better fish though Justin
  20. 11.11, wow ... on a rat-l-trap, WOW ;) Justin

I texas rig mine a lot more often than I rig them wacky style. I would say that half of the time I fish them weightless...and the other half of the time I use a small lead weight(1/8 oz). Both ways have worked well for me. Black/blue and watermelon/red are my two best producing colors. Justin
  22. I fish a lot of stained to muddy water around here in South Louisiana...when I am fishing really muddy water, I've had good success going brighter in color rather than darker. Granted...I haven't fished very many black spinnerbaits in my day...but going to a spinnerbait with more chartreuse in it does seem to have a positive effect for me when I'm fishing muddier water than usual. White/Chartreuse is my mainstay though. I also tend to use Oklahoma Blades in dirtier water. Justin
  23. Thanks for the reply Catt! We never really fished the back of Palo Gaucho last year...we fished right around Alpine Marina really and caught most of our fish around there. There's a little "cove" right next to the launch and we caught quite a fish right in there..even though it was pretty shallow. We also caught quite a few just outside that cove on some of those points and in some of the standing timber. We also fished directly across from Alpine Launch..that area was much deeper and was basically bluff/rock banks..caught a lot of fish over there fishing deeper with plastics. We never really went to the back though because most of it looked shallow on our chart we were using. We did fish just behind the bridge that runs across that creek...the bank to the right just after you cross under the bridge heading towards the back of Palo Gaucho...caught several fish off of the laydowns right there. We'll try further back this year though..Hines Creek..got it written down Can't wait! Justin
