  1. Wilderness Systems ATAK 140. I can stand all day ion this kayak with no issue!
  2. In celebration of their 5 year anniversary, the Florida Bass Paddlers will be hosting a month long tournament during the month of February that will benefit both Heroes on the Water as well as the Army Bass Anglers! The tournament cost is just $15 which is payable via Paypal or Check and for every entry, and is open to Kayaks, Canoes, SUP's, and Jon Boats that are paddled. No electric or gas powered craft. $5 will go to H.O.W. and $5 will go to A.B.A. Fly Anglers may also participate by adding $5 to the $15 and that $5 will also get split to both organizations. The remaining funds will go into a pot and the Anglers who finishes first in total length of their three largest Bass will win 100% of pot! Second and Third Place Angers will each win a gift certificate courtesy of HOOK1. Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Peacock all qualify! There will also be mystery prizes each week so you never know what can happen. The tournament is open to anyone within the United States and Mexico, and prizes are being generously donated by HOOK1, Tailin' Toads, Railblaza, Bruiser Baits, Backwater Paddle Company, and more. For more information, please visit my tournament Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/FBP-February-Freedom-Fight/603644946447487
  3. Hey BR Anglers...I am looking for a area to launch my kayak in Lake Okeechobee. I live in South Florida so if there is a launch near the South side of the Lake (Palm Beach County) that would be great. Any locations for a safe park or launch. Not to worry...I will not ask for any of your "Hot Spots"...I never fished Lake O and would love to fish it.
  4. First off...Thanks to all of the terrific advise. I was looking at the new Costa's in the camo frames. The Fantail fit me best (I have a small face) but was not sure of the lens color. I use Costa Tag's with green 580P for my inshore fishing and wanted to buy this second pair for Bass Fishing. I was previously using Oakley Straight Jackets with VR28 Black Iridium lenses...which look like a dark brown which worked well, but was not sure if a Amber or Grey lens would be better.
  5. So I am going to buy a pair of Costa's strictly for Bass fishing as was not sure which lens color would be better...Polarize Amber or Polarized Grey? What works best for you?
  6. Not sure if any of you Bass Boaters have a canoe laying around, but my club is hosting it's first tourney! Details are here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1300932229/0#0

  8. I had a lot to do today, so I figured I would hit the water and take minimal tackle with me. I loaded the yak (obviously), paddle, PFD, 1 bag of soft plastics, 3 hooks, and a 6 pound test line spinning outfit, and I hit the water just before first light. It was a slow going with the "Wacky Rig", but eventually the first fish hit in one of my usual spots: The second fish was a Gar, but luckily, the toothy wretched fell off before I had to remove him. A few casts later, another dink Bass takes the bait: I relocated to another area with a large amount of lilly pads, and a few more fish took the hook: This little guy was my second favorite fish as his spunky little attitude had him hitting my worm just as I was going to lift it up out of the water for another cast: Now, what happened next made my day. There was a small patch of lilly pads that was away from the main field, and something was moving under it. I paddled my yak to get an accurate cast, and within a second or two or the worm hitting the water, the line takes off, and the fight was on. I knew it was a good fish, but when the first surface head shake occurred, my hands began to shake, and my heart began to race. The fish was big and fought hard. She made two runs under the yak, but she succumbed to my will, and she was landed. She is the biggest Bass I have ever caught in a kayak. Here she is: Not too bad for a few hours of fishing before the I had to start the "Honey Do" list!
  9. Nice day!!!
  10. Looks like a great time was had by all...just be careful...your brother does not want to head to the wedding with his hands smelling like fish! ;D
  11. The only time I kayaked neat the Everglades was one time I launched a Mile Marker 31 in Alligator Alley. I launched on the side opposite of the actual boat ramp.
  12. Well...I woke up at 5:00 this morning, went outside for my fishing weather forecast and it was chilly with a strong wind gust. Every bone in my body said "Go Back to Bed"...but I have been working my tail off, and through hell and high winds, I was going fishing. I loaded the yak, and launched around 7:00 at Lake Ida: With the high winds, and the white capping of the lake, I knew some of my usual spots would be pointless as I could not hold my ground. I let the wind push my into a lilly pad bed, and I was greeted by a few of the lake inhabitants: It was not before long, the "Wacky Rig" was doing it's thing: Much better than going back to bed!!! :
  13. It has been requested for an event a little further south for the Miami crew, and after multiple reports of the fishing activity getting really good in the canals, we will be holding the February event on Sunday Feb 27 at the boat ramp on Alligator Alley and MM31. This is the 1st boat ramp on the right after the toll plaza just west of US27. If you want to look at the area on Google Earth, "fly to" Andytown, FL and you will see the toll plaza in your view. Go west to the ramp. There are numbers of fish to be caught as well as big fish. We are taking suggestions for March and for our 1st tournament in April....see everybody in a couple of weeks!
  14. Let me first thank everyone for their kind words...and answer a few questions as well. It was actually just a get together, however we are looking to possibly host a tournament sometime in April. As far as the area in the third picture, about half of the fish caught were caught in this area, mostly in the creeks that run off of it The last picture is the fish I caught on a watermelon red flake Lake Fork Trophy Lures hyper rig, and I also know that the bigger fish were caught on black lizards, as well as white spinnerbaits. Soft plastics seemed to be the key on this day.Also...as far as the last picture looking like a magazine shot...there could be two reasons for that. One...My GQ look??? :-/...maybe not! Actually, one of the anglers fishing with us is also a photographer.
  15. This past weekend, the Florida Bass Paddlers hosted their first event near Lake Osborne. It was a chilly morning, but turned out to be a beautiful day. 20 anglers showed up, and I will let the pictures speak for themselves: The launch: Mother Earth in her truest form: The anglers: and the "Guests" of honor... What a day!!!
