I am Canadian and have many friends in the Ottawa Valley... unfortunately i have never fished there personally. Definitely some awesome water though.

Some feel that the net slows them down. While it may bring the fish into the boat quickly, sometimes the partner is not ready with the net in time or hooks get tangled in the netting. Even the best of nets still get hooks caught sometimes. Personally, I don't ever use a net for bass as I have no trouble landing them without and I get things done faster without it. But for anything else (pike, carp, catfish, trout), the net is always handy!

I don't know about down there.. but up here you need to go through a huge, grueling process to LEGALLY transport bass from one waterbody to another.. even if it is private. Now, I don't know anybody who has actually gone through the process of getting a permit. I don't often see the Conservation Officers standing outside my house waiting to see what I put in my pond But if there's a risk, you might want to look into it. Just a word of advice!

I like the taste of bass from cold water. Usually once a year (early fall) I will take one or two small ones home for supper. I just fry them up in breadcrumbs or pancake mix.

That's quite a haul for a little Canuck boy like me LOL but if it were sometime during the summer I could make it. Someone should really get this organized it could be really cool!

Crawfish are the preferred forage of bass, anywhere. They are easy to catch and high in protein.

Good for ponds and lakes when it is calm, they aren't too great in choppy water. They mark fish surprisingly well and are good for depth and large structure, but aren't too detailed as you would expect of a little unit like that. They are worth the money if you fish a lot of calm water, or ponds or from the bank. (I don't have one myself but a good friend of mine has one and we have used it together often when launching my car topper boat into small ponds).

I also had that problem recently. Seems to me that the fish in those areas must just be full of baitfish already and not too hungry. Best idea is to switch to a reaction bait or entice them with a finesse bait. Suspending jerkbaits fished with a stop & go retrieve will entice strikes from these bass.

Shiners work, as do suckers and creek chubs. The most likely way of catching a trophy bass on most days. I rarely fish with them for bass, but I do know they work. I just get bored too easily trying to sit there with live bait. Nothing wrong with doing it though! (I guess it's no different than sitting on a hump with a jigging spoon for smallies all day)

When I go carp or catfish fishing it's as simple as throwing some handfuls of corn or fish entrails (never put em in the trash!). I have also tried punching holes in canned dog food and hanging it from branches for crappie. Seems to work pretty well, bluegills like it too and even get the odd bass. When it comes to perch fishing I keep all my dead minnows from previous years and it adds up, I have about 4 bags of salted minnows in the freezer. I chuck a handful out before I cast for perch and it works wonders, this also works for catfish.

I don't see the comparison...? Many lures are equipped with trebles to help their action and they wouldnt hook a fish without them. And with live bait the standard is to use a single hook. If you're talking about live bait, obviously a treble hook will do way more damage because often with livebait the bass are deeply hooked.

Those are all some beauty fish! It's rare to have an hour of fishing that good. Way to go!
