Welcome aboard! I don't use them much, but over my experiences, yes, they will work year around. I agree with A-Jay that Strike King's work better than the original Rat-L-Traps, but they're good enough to get the job done.

Using a leader will absolutely help keep your braid mainline in tact, Kyle. That's what I do. From my experience, "professional overruns" are much easier to pick out of braid, as opposed to strait mono/co/fluoro. I use a leader for everything....

1 Ibuprofen + 1 Aleve. The Ibuprofen gets to the pain quicker than the Aleve, but the Aleve makes it last longer...

Been tempted, but never bought a 50-pack kit. I have found colors that work for me, and colors that don't. Seems the kits have more of the colors that don't, hence, I pass.

DVT - are you asking because that is/could be the problem? I'm actually curious because many say just to spool the entire reel with braid if you can afford it. I always tie on maybe 10 or so yards of mono, then the braid. But wondering about this topic all together.

Let's be honest. You will find a "perfect" setup that will, after some time, become "less than perfect" and in need of tweaking. My world has gone from worm bags to bags of worms in zip locks, to worms in 360 size boxes and back again ... to now, all the gear I can carry in a single Plano guide series box. Any extra stuff goes in 360 boxes and stored behind me in the milk crate. Seriously. Fishing life on a kayak is an adventure in finding the best and simplest, or most awesome way to carry bait, rods, etc.

To each his or her own, I suppose, since it isn't a law to *have one on* at all times. If it were a rule, or mandatory that we wear PFDs, at all times, I wouldn't complain because it is part of my arsenal and my sons' no matter what. I just don't want there to ever be a "what if he wore his PFD?" if I were in an accident on the water. I'm with A-Jay and his point #4. Logical to the core.

Quite true, I guess it just goes hand-in-hand with the tragic nature of boat collisions, etc. If the collision knocked one guy out, and threw him from boat, the PFD would have saved his life, presumably...

Lake Tenkiller... ominous name. At least nobody was killed. But the other story about the father and 2 kids, now that's sad. I see way too many people on reservoirs here out in kayaks, canoes not wearing PFDs. Maybe they think because it isn't "required" it isn't "necessary". Logic couldn't be more wrong.
