Big fan of snakes. Have commented before. If you're an outdoorsman
it is a good thing to know exactly what lives there. Familiarize with
the kinds of snakes, birds, insects you'll perhaps encounter. Advice
that probably a majority here already follow, but just practical.
Have encountered a number of cottonmouths while fishing, some
very aggressive, but they're belligerent snakes in general. Have caught
a bunch of snakes while fishing. We're a snake family, so they're part
of our family fabric, LOL. Eldest son has taken over and has about
19 snakes, getting into breeding ball pythons.
Pic attached was a really big and feisty cottonmouth at local Harwood's
Mill Reservoir when I was long-pole dock fishing with one of my boys.
Back in 2010, taken with a Palm Pre...fun phone. Pic doesn't do size
justice. Ended up having to use the butt end of my long pole to lift
him and move him to other side of dock to get out of our way.
