  1. HEY! watch it I happen to like the XS1000 They have a good heart in staying American made, so I will support them.
  2. Well, maybe Ardent will go from being so-so this year to competing with other big names. • (DTT) Drag Tracking Technology • 413 Cast Aluminum Frame and Handle Cover • *** ABEC Stainless Steel Ball Bearings • 7075-T6 Aluminum Triple Bearing Spool • Power Carbon Fiber Handle • Carbon / Smoothie double drag system • Helical Aircraft Aluminum Drive Gear • 6-Pin Centrifugal Brake System • 3-Year Warranty • Weight 8.7 oz • Line Retrieve 7.2/28" 6.5/26" • Line Capacity 8-190 10-160 12-130 • Available in Left and Right hand • Gear Ratio: 6.5:1 and 7.2:1 Except they are laughably expensive and very ugly... oh well.
  3. I have a 6'6" med spinning rod I use for a travel rod, and it's perfect for what I use it for. I think it would make a great crankbait rod, but personally I like a fast rod for spinnerbaits. They are very strong, as well.
  4. Tie the line on the spool with a two turn uni knot. Stick the spool on a pencil and have the line coming off the bottom of the spool, through a guide, and onto the reel. Make sure the line comes off the bottom of the spool.
  5. They dump their most popular bass gear, and then bring out new mediocre saltwater/crossover gear. Guaranteed
  6. The drag on a reel helps protect your line. When you set a drag to 8 lbs, it takes about 8 lbs of force to pull line off the spool. Before the the line reaches its breaking point, the drag lets line out. This helps keep your line from breaking under pressure. With a higher drag pressure, you can fish high strength braided lines and really "winch" the fish out of heavy cover, something which is more difficult with lighter drag settings.
  7. My family has also rescued a little robin that fell out of its nest. We fed it worms and let it drink out an eyedropper.
  8. Those are some nice rainbows, especially on the fly! Great job
  9. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I got him the 6'8" Medium X-Fast spinning rod. He mostly fishes the Susquehanna for smallies, so I think he'll love it.
  10. I would buy it in store, but I am in Maryland and he is in PA, so I need to ship it to him, and Tackle Warehouse has free shipping, so I'll just ship it to his house.
  11. Thanks for the advice, I think I'll get him the Mojo. By the way it was a torn meniscus in his knee. Not sure exactly what happened, as I'm no doctor, but I do know that the surgery didn't go as planned and the doctors weren't able to remove all they wanted to.
  12. My best friend recently had knee surgery. We both love to fish together. He is a great fisherman, and loves the feel of St. Croix rods. He always raves about how nice they would be, but never buys them... so I thought it would be nice to get him one as a recovery gift. I am looking to spend around 100 dollars, so I went to tackle warehouse only to find they only carry the Mojo Bass in that range. I know there might be better options in the $100 dollar price range, but I know how much the St. Croix name would mean to him. I know the main complaint with the Mojos is that they are tip heavy. Would a 6'6" Medium be tip heavy? Or is that still light enough to not be overly tip heavy. Also any prayers for him would be appreciated as the surgery didn't go very well at all. We are both 16 now, and after the surgery the doctors told him there is a very good chance he will have arthritis at age 30. And I doubt he will be able to keep wrestling, which he loves as much as fishing.

  16. Well, after fishing Power Pro all my short life, I needed to spool up and choose Sufix Fuse. That experiment lasted about 3 trips. So I went back to Power Pro, but I really wanted to try one of the newer braids ( I know PP has been around a while). So I picked up 300 yds of Momoi Diamond Braid... $34.99 It is a sweet blue color. While PP has 4 carrier strands, and is quite flat. Momoi's has 16 carriers and is very rounds, a million times smoother than the Power Pro. It casts lovely. One of my favorite things about it is how dry it is. Especially on spinning gear, my braid used to absorb water and spray all over me on the retrieve, but Diamond Braid has very little spraying. I can't say that Diamond Braid will catch me one more fish than Power Pro, but it is a joy to fish, and I highly recommend it.
  17. Exactly. I can't stand the small handles.
  18. So this is all about durability. If you had one reel for the rest of you life, what would it be?
  19. Thats awesome, I have yet to take a trout on the fly, I'm holding out for when I can get to a stream with non-stocked fish.
  20. Yea sure thing. I guess both will for sure happen.
  21. Bring it on
  22. http://www.lakesidereels.com/servlet/the-555/Lews-Tournament-Pro-Speed/Detail Excellent service, too. The other day he pulled me up a receipt from a year ago, very quick and nice. He has awesome prices, and always free shipping.
