  1. Dark grey polarized prescription glassesd for me. I just picked up my second pair. They are no line bi-focals. It's very hard to get much wrap around in prescription glasses. My out of pocket was about 216.00. It's well worth it.
  2. Some waters are like banging your head against a brick wall.......it feels good when you stop.
  3. Can you say FICTIONAL ACCOUNT ?
  4. I also have the Dobyns DX795 Flip with a Lews Super Duty. The rod has some tip for such a power stick. Light, great feel and balanced.
  5. Oh I get it. IJHAPC
  6. 28 packs of hollow body swim baits by P-Line. A pair of new polarized prescription sunglasses. OUCH ! Rod Gloves for the new flippin and finesse spinning rod.
  7. 3.5 INCH TUBE JERKBAIT ROBO WORM (DROP SHOT) NORMANS DEEP LITTLE N Look for gravel and rock transition areas with deep water close by. Points near spawning flats or creek channels near or in a spawing flat are go to locations. Search with the jerk bait and crankbait and then work it over with a tube and drop shot. A hair jig could also be a sleeper bait. Check out Paul Mueller's videos on You Tube and find the one on a hair jig and you'll get the idea. Good luck.
  8. Cordell Ripplin. Koppers Live Target DEEP Craw. LFT Craw Tube
  9. Do you think this was aired by accident ? The producers were looking to hit a nerve. They didn't have to air Rojas' comments. It was a distraction to an interesting tournament.
  10. Thanks Kent. I went to YoZuri after reading your posts a couple of years ago and really like it. If you like Tatsu and Kanzen it must be for real. I will give it a go. One question....FC can be fickle when it comes to sinching the know down. What's your experience?
  11. And it won't break when your wife puts it in the trash compactor.
  12. I don't think there is a better bait for skipping under docks or over hanging trees. Back in the 80's it was the hot flippin bait. It still works but lost it's popularity to the fancy creature baits. My buddy uses a tube as a pitchin bait and uses a technique that amazed me. I just put my rod down and watched. No one can deny tubes are a smallmouth staple. Like they say, find em' with a crankbait and clean up with a tube.
  13. Braid for big top water baits. Co-polymer for everything else.
  14. For me it depends on the type of cover. I vary trailers to slow the fall but stay heavy to get the drop. My box is dominated with 1/2 ounce.
  15. I fished glass for the last ten years and like it. I made a move to a composite rod (7') two years ago. It afforded a bit more feel but did not sacrifice the forgiving action of glass. I also picked up a 7-6 graphite rod last year but it is a designated cranking rod with a parabolic action. It was designed specifically with the Normans Deep Little N in mind and that is my confidence bait. Having some forgiveness in a rod will improve your hooked to land ratio. It's coming... the Lamiglas SR705R is da bomb ! I had to steal RW's thunder.
  16. Remember swimbaits are a catigory of bait. Each bait type has it's own place and application. I am in no way an expert and still consider myself a novice but here is what I would sell you. I would select two color options to match the forage base for your location and a color for days when it's slick or calm. They would be 5 FIVE inch holIow body with a paddle tail. I would get you to buy a weighted EWG Gammi hooks, a Revenge swimbait jig head and scrounger heads in 1/2 and 3/8 ounce. Take your spinnerbait rod and fish them slow. Each rig option will allow you to fish them in various cover or no cover locations. EWG for vegetation, Revenge head for belly dragging on or near the bottom and the scrounger for everywhere in between. Move the bait fast enough to get the padle tail to wiggle. It's a subtle bait. If you get a bite or two on a spinnerbait but they just won't commit, come in behind with the swimbait. Sometimes flash and loud vibration are too much but they will take the swimbait hard. You can fish a solid body bait like a Skinny Dipper in the same manner. I'm partial to Basstrix and P-Line baits or Top Shelf but you can pick any of the brands that look good to you. I fished Clear Lake CAL for the first time three years ago and had some awesome periods throughout the days on a Rago BVD top hook fishing it so slow it took two minutes to reel my cast back to the boat. After the sun came up the Basstrix on a 1/2 scrounger got savage strikes. It was a learning experience and a trip of a life time for me. Have fun.
  17. Well said. For open water #12 would be okay but #15 is my standard. White, White/chart. for stained. A gill color for clearer and a glimmer shad for clear water. Medium heavy (3 power)rod is my preference. My last fish (last week) was on a red/black with red/black double willow blades due to brown water. The bite was a tick and then heavy until I caught up to her. A five plus too.
  18. Only if it's coming at me from a barrel.
  19. Eagle Claw bobber stops for me. Very cheap and effective.
  20. Rayburn Red and Crawfish patterns over flats in the spring for smallmouth. Can be very effective.
  21. I don't have enough time with the reels to offer an informed opinion. I will be curious as to how they feel when my 2nd BB1 gets here and goes on the 7-6 graphite. BY the end of April, I should have enough time and hopefully strikes to get a true feel for the reels. The fact the reel was designed without IAS was not a factor in my purchase. I for one like glass or composite for crankbaits. I still think softer actions might nullify the Lews feature. Heck, it may enhance it. One thing I know, it casts as far as I need to cast and does fine in the wind. I also have MG, Tournament, Superduty and T-Pro models. The MG took a few casts to get dialed but showed itself to be a smooth caster. It's very comparable to the REVO SX for needing a couple of extra casts to set up. One final thought John, Was the lack of IAR in the original BB1 models engineered or the result of loose tolerances ? Riddle me that batman.
  22. John, I fished Lews for 20 + years and still have 5 that I retired. I have a new generation BB1 in 5.1 to 1 and have used it twice this year. The lack of IAF is not as pronounced as on the early model, at least to me. It's not a feature that provides me with some great advantage as, say, over a Winch. I feel the vibration of the bait very well through the reel in my hand. Outside of that, I like the ergonomics of the Lews. It was very easy for me to set once and go. My BB1 is not fickel to adjust. The distance I gained over my Winch's is surprising. The retrieve is very smooth. I fish cranks on a 7 foot glass/composite and 7'6" graphite with a parabolic action. Both provide that softer action and slight delay in feeling the strike. That factor may cancel out any benefit of no AIF. I don't have the touch senses of a safe cracker so I don't know. I like the reel well enough that I have a second one on the way. I like similar feeling reels but that's my perference. If I could get parts for the old Lews, I would still fish them. How intelligent that is, I don't know.
