  1. Nice kangaroo though
  2. I picked up two 604ALB's last fall on special. They are a little heavy but for what I paid, I'm more than happy. Decent drag and very little line twist. They have a great oversize T handle. (Are you listening Pflueger !! ) I have one set with #8 and one with #10 for tubes and hula grubs on matching 703 Certified Pro rods. Look around, you might get lucky and find them for around 40 bucks new.
  3. Owner Twist Lock Trokar Flippin Hook or BMF Gammi G-lok Depends on what bait is being used.
  4. Thanks guys. Looks like overtime plus Wednesday equals a Premier.
  5. Thanks Chris. Stupid me, spool runs free when casting. I didn't state my question worth a hoot. I have the SX's and Winch but was curious as to casting performance between the Premier models. There are 09's priced aggressively right now. I'm not convinced the Premier's 2010 price reflects a HUGE improvement in performance and have the opportunity to purchase the 09 Premier at a very hot price. Thanks again.
  6. Anyopne picked up the new 2010 Revo Premier that has the pre 2010 ? I'm curious if the change in bearing count made a difference in casting performance ? Thanks in advance !
  7. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes better.
  8. Tiny Flukes in pearl and baby bass for drop shot baits. Nose hooked with some Smelly Jelly smeared on them. Can't wait for May.
  9. I remember 8,9,10 years ago reading the equipment/lure blocks in Bassmaster on what pros used in any given tournament. I was amazed at the number of pros that used Trilene Big Game. I used it. I was fairly cheap, held up, had good knot strength and cast pretty well. It can't have gotten worse over the years but there is little written about it. That would be my suggested line.
  10. Rattlin' Vibes. Color depends on water clarity and forage. Orarges and reds don't work in my part of the county for some reason.
  11. Tooth paste. I use Sensadyne. My blades can't stand cold water. ;D
  12. Normally choose the same colors you would use on your spinnerbaits. Try this, remove the skirt (Booyah ) and thread a white or pearl Fluke on it. If you have any water clarity at all, it will work. It looks like a swimbait on steroids
  13. Pull off 45 yards and re-spool. Leave last season's line as balast.
  14. Answer: Yes and no. I did but traded them to a buddy. The Competitor series is a decent rod at the right price. Do NOT get the first issue with the cross check finish. It looked neat but chipped easily. A material flaw. The second issue has the clean brown finish like the Certified Pro glass rods. I paid 62 bucks new for mine. It is a composite blank. It's parabolic but not as slow as glass. I used it for square bills because it was short enough for accuracy and soft enough ( still good back bone ) to keep hooks from tearing out. It could easily double as a spinnerbait rod. If you can get one for 50 to 55 bucks you would not be dissapointed. Happy shopping
  15. I spoke to Brian at Lamiglas. The former Skeet Reese signature glass rod is still in production less the Skeet Reese name. Brian shared the Excel blank is the base blank for the Certified Pro or XCF705. The American Tackle guides are made to Lamiglas specs and are still high quality. Lamiglas was determined to hit an affordable price point without compromising quality. One more option to look at.
  16. You might want to check into that NorCal. I believe it's the XCF705R blank that's used for the Excel.
  17. I hate gold as well. That's why my truck is not gold...it's "metallic buck skin." ;D
  18. Sent you some info on your PM. F and P
  19. Any of the Revo line will perform well for pitching. The 7 to 1 ratio is great for taking up line quick on a fast strike and bringing in your bait for the next presentation. Revo SX and STX reels have tremendous drag systems. All the Revos handle braid well. I pitch a 5 inch weightless Yum Dinger on #17 with no problems. I hear very good things about the Core but have not owned or used one. The " flippin switch " feature can be found on the Quantum Accurist PT series which I own and have used for over 8 years. That feature takes ALOT of practice because you must maintain pressure on the thumb bar to keep the spool in the free spool mode. If you have small hands it will be a chore. The feature is OKay and it works but I for one don't use it. Good luck !
  20. Good !! I honestly don't. I have read the SX which I also own and has the magnets only has been " touchy " to get set right for a lot of owners. It's a fool proof way to set spool speed. It might be a lighter system to keep weight down.
  21. I just picked up the Lamiglas Excel glass CB rod Thursday. It is comparable to the Certified Pro S-glass. It is much lighter that the yellow Skeet Reese 705R and a bit lighter than the certified pro. I liked the balance. I threw a 1/2 spinnerbait in the yard only to see how it loads and it handled it very well. I have the CP glass and XCC composite and like that slow parabolic action but the blank is resilient for a glass rod and transmitted the vibration of the willow blades well. Just kidding. I was lucky to find mine because Lamiglas is back ordered on almost every model in the line. Check TW, they should have them before anyone if you have to buy on line. Powell makes a fine rod. I wish I could put my hands on one to compare. PM me if you want more information.
  22. They are not magnets, they are centrifugal brakes. There is a screw on the reel handle side with an over sized head. That locks the opposite side plate. Back it out until it spins freely. Rotate the side plate clock wise which moves the front of the side plate up. It will rotate a little less than a quarter turn and release the slide lock inside. That will expose the brakes. Mine came with two brakes in and four out from the factory. Move them out in opposites ! try two out first if you want it to slow the spool and opposite of that to free the spool rotation. That should do it. DON"T force the side plate. Great reels.
  23. Man, every reel you listed will give you great service and performance. If you are buying one and can afford any of them, buy the one that makes you happy and excited to use it. That was easy.
  24. Road Warrior is right on this one. BPS hooks will bend fairly easy. The configration of the wide gap isn't bad, they just are a low grade hook. Use them up fun fishing though. You will appreciate a better quality hook as mentioned. Lots of opinions on that topic.
  25. Oh yeah, Before I started with the beaver bait craze this was a staple. It's a great pitchin bait when the water is cool and the fish want the bait falling. I won my first tounament with this bait so it's special in a way. You will love them.
