  1. They look like ninja dice.
  2. It's my mental health treatment. I, for the world cannot explain why hooking and landing a fish brings so much enjoyment. I love it when someone else catches fish. That is fun to watch. I work a high stress job and really look forward to the time on the water to " decompress. " Fiddling with the stuff is just a teaser.
  3. Fish the banks rthat wind is blowing up on. You can either turn into the wind for boat control and fish reaction baits but casting will be a trial. If you have to fish jigs or plastics, shorter casts and heavier weights will help you feel a bite. You can allow the wind to blow you down a bank and cast ahead and use a drift sock to slow you down. Boat control is so much fun in the wind.
  4. un-screw and back out the lone large head knurled screw until you feel it have full play. The side plate rotates up. They can be a little sticky the first time. Reverse the process to close.
  5. The Vibraflex also has an offset hole in the blades. Did the actual blade break or the clevis ? Take it back and exchange it.
  6. If the spinning reels are on par with the bait casters, they should be good. I still have two of the old 1980's speed spins. They were the first ( as memory serves ) to advocate the large diameter spools. I haven't used them in years. Lews has a pretty decen pro staff but the jury is still out on their spinning reels.
  7. Lamiglas (SR)705R glass Lamiglas XCC725 composite Lamiglas Excel 705G glass Lamiglas XCF705 glass Dobyns 705 crankbait rod
  8. There is something to be said for fishing light gear and the enjoyment of the fight. BUT if you mind breaking off several 9 dollar frogs in a day, braid seems more practical.
  9. I've been fishing Big Bite Baits products for about 6 or 7 years now. The baits I have used and continue to use perform well and are great values. They have a great color selection. I especially like and fish their tubes.
  10. It's addicting to some. Many find it too much work. I love it because it's a challenge. Different bass species, so many ways to fish for them, different venues, can fish 9 months a year for them, clubs, tournaments for those who like the experience and bass are great sport !!! Did I mention the stuff ????? If you are a stuff freak, there is no fish that can meet your desire to acquire stuff. Bass anglers are kindred spirits and love to share their experiences. For the most part, those I have met, to include many here on the forum, are incredible people, colorful, helpful, accomodating and giving. Being exposed to those kind of quality folks is what's addicting. Oh, I don't fish bass for the " tic tic ".....I fish them for the KAHDUNK and the TWONNNGGGGGGGG.
  11. Personal preference really factors here. I like a high speed reel for lures that I move with the manipulation of the rod, i.e., plastics, jigs and jerkbaits. I pick slack up quick and retrieve the lure faster for the next presentation. Lures I move via the reel, like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzz frogs and so on, I like a slower or less IPT ratio. For lures that generate a lot of resistance in the water, I like a ratio that provides the torque to save my wrists and hands from fatigue. I have found applications for 7.1 to 1, 6.4 to 1 and 5.4 to 1 and cover it all with those ratios or IPT retrieve rates. But that's just me. Efficiency, Effectiveness and Effort.
  12. The key is " almost the same." I prefer to buy those items, like reels after I hold them in my little hands. There are no BPS stores in my region. I can always find name brand items on sale or discounted and narrow the price difference from exclusive label items. Anyone who prefers BPS or Cabelas exclusive label products are getting what they pay for like the the rest of us. When I spend a hundred bucks or more, I want to demo what i'm buying. Can't do it, so I don't buy it.
  13. Big Bite Baits Dry Creek Outfitters Outlaw Baits Strike King Coffee Tubes Each has a unique color pattern that work well in my region.
  14. Just bought a Shimano Symetre 2500 for 59.99 new for my drop shot rod. There you go.
  15. LMB 7-13 on a buzzbait in July SMB 5-4 on a crankbait in October Fall Chinook 46 pounds on eggs Summer run Steelhead 20.5 pounds on a purple peril fly Winter run Steelhead 18 plus pulling plugs ( Hot Shot ) Grass Carp "Priceless"
  16. I would suggest you look at the Lamiglas Excel 705G glass cranking rod. I and several others have used this model for well over a year and like it alot. If you want to see one in action, go to Youtube videos and type in Columbia River Smallmouths and watch the rods used, Excels. That should give you an idea of the flex and power characteristics. Good luck !
  17. I have BPS rod covers and Tackle Warehouse reel covers. The reel covers are great for transport or winter storage.
  18. A pre-Browning LEWS BB1N Speed Spool. I have 4 that are 31 years old and work as well today as they did the year I got them.
  19. The Trion has the reputation as being a work horse. They cast well, are durable and have plenty of line capacity. I still have mine but relegated it to steelhead duty to date. At 5.2 to 1 it could be a pretty good deep crankin reel.
  20. Good for you ! The fact you purposed yourself to learn to use a tool and develope your skills will pay off big time. When you go out and have confidence in your casting skills and it becomes second nature, the whole sport becomes so much more enjoyable. The equipment available today is a quantum leap above what I started with. That's awesome. My favorite set up is the one I have in my hand at that given moment.
  21. Okay you old dogs, who was the trick caster for Lews in the 70's and early 80's ??????
  22. Regardless of what rod you use, the Lews has been a surprise, a nice one. Some of us took the chance early on and most have been very happy with their performance. I certainly am. I was throwing an LC 78 yesterday during a tournament and darn near spooled the reel on some casts. If you have smaller hands, this reel is for you. Big performance from a small package. They deserve consideration. Now, will they produce a retro Speed Spool ? That would be sweet.
  23. I have the each of the Excels you mentioned. The micro is a 703CM and I use it for jerk baits and some lighter top water. It works as a shakey head rod or wacky worm rod if you want casting for those applications. The 734C has been firmed up by the factory since last spring. It is the most all around of the series and can handle a a miriad of techniques. The 735C is a heavy/heavy action stick and would shy away from that model for now. The 705C is slightly understated for it's power rating. It can handle your bigger spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, jigs to 5/8 oz. and carolina rigs. They will balance well with your Revos. Hope this helps.
