  1. Brushhoggin is spot on. Whether you fish from a boat or shore a power rod is missing. A 7-3 or 7-6 heavy action will give you several options. You can use that stick for frogs pitchin, heavy spinnerbaits and jigs. There's something to be said for a rod that allows you to stick them and then move them. You have a huge number of options out there at several price points. Good luck !!
  2. Cliff, I don't know if you are still monitoring this thread or not. I wasn't going to post at first but felt compelled now. First, don't get riled over someone's comment when they don't know you, who you are and what you are. A father disciplines his son OUT OF LOVE. If you didn't care about these boys, who are now your sons, you wouldn't be transparent and ask for advice from others. I see children every day in what I do who have maybe one parent and or both who don't give a rip about their children, training their children, clothing their children, feeding their children, teaching their children values and in fact damage their children by physical and mental neglect. That man or woman, I have NO respect for. Talk to him alone. Give him the assurance he is loved by you, your wonderful wife, his brother and any grandparents involved. Let him know you are there for him, even when he behaves in a way that disappoints you. I'm no Dr. Phil but I would guess the fact he has " new parents " is catching up to him. Even a 7 and 9 year old can ask questions as to why they live with someone else. You are what these boys need, that's why you have them. Don't let a naysayer bring question as to your commitment and love for the kids. You CAN administer corporal discipline to a child and have them crawl into to your lap and hug on you after, because they will know you do what you do out of love and not malice. You'll be fine.
  3. I raced 11 years. Yamaha, Husqvarna, Suzuki and Honda, all 250 class. I was fortunate enough to see Roger DeCoster race twice. Broke my back in 74' and quit racing in 83. They were great times.
  4. My neighbor had that bike when I was 10 or so. His folks had the first Mustang in town too. I actually miss those times, like the nuclear air raid drills where we got under our desks, seeing Kennedy sworn in, watching Clay become Ali, drinking my first Mountain Dew, hearing Kruschev say he would bury us. What a time to grow up. There was nothing like the cold war and Fresca, huh?
  5. United States Treasury Department That should do it.
  6. Koppers baits Ima Rumba Havoc baits Lews Tournament and Tournament Pro BC reels Dobyns Champion series rods Sun Gloves
  7. LM: Pit Boss, Spinnerbait, Jig SM: Norman's Deep Little N, Tube, Hula Grub
  8. Bass Angler Magazine for sure.
  9. Almost all of my cranking is done with Hybrid #10. Square bills are done with #15 as are spinnerbaits. I have had great success with that line.
  10. I am an advocate of glass crankbait rods when fishing 8 feet and deeper and that's for largemouth and especially smallmouth. My glass rod is a cranking rod and that's all I use it for. When it comes to glass, some love it and some hate it. At least try one if you can. My hook to land ratio went up dramatically when I got my first glass crankin rod.
  11. My local dealer ran their older Stradics out at 25% off. Decent buy.
  12. I bought my first Winch to throw Norman Deep Little N's and similar baits. I used it for big bladed spinnerbaits and loved it so I bought a second. Great reels.
  13. I had two Pinnacle Tara's and fished the heck out of them. I gave them to a young new angler just starting out. He uses them and they still work great.
  14. Rod covers and neoprene foam reel covers on any combo I transport. Keeps them tangle free and prevents wear when in rough water.
  15. Chris, Lamiglas just introduced an Excel inshore series with the MSRP at 159.99. I think they will come in a bit less in stores. The XLS765S might be the deal. Call em up or look at the Tackle Tour piece.
  16. Stan Fagerstrom. Stan is a great person and his trick casting skills still are something to marvel at.
  17. Two hands and my wrist and elbow thank me at the end of the day.
  18. Hooligan is going to be a TV star on CSI Lake Fork. I'll bet you have your own fuming wand and everything.
  19. How did everyone else do ? How did the front effect the rest of the competition ? If you have confidence in your spots, slow down even more and fish them thoroughly. Fish for 5 bites. You just might grab that grand.
  20. I have yet to handle a new Lews speed stick. I have three 1979 glass pistol grip rods and four 1988 graphite models but that's a bit dated I would think. The reels are excellent. I have 2 Tournament Pros and two Tournament series. They both perform exceptionally well. BB is not overstating these reels one bit. The jury is still out on the sticks, or has there been a trial yet ?
  21. If the Mojo is all you can afford it makes sense. A pitchin rod is the rod that I have in my hand more than any other model. It's the one stick that get's the higher budget as a result. I want light, sensitive and balanced. The Mojo lacks all of the above but if you have the limited budget and need a P-stick, it's a no brainer.
  22. 1/2 ounce double willow spinnerbait.
  23. Location is key. It may change throughout the day, days or week. Time of day impacts light penetration and temperature which impacts location(s). Picking a lure or lures that effectively cover the location's specifics is next. Refining the presentation(s) is next and color further refines the preentation. That's my 2 cents worth.
  24. Around 3600 yards I would guess
  25. The Slim Dawg, a Sammy type top water is a decent bait. Swap the split rings and hooks and it's ready to go. The finishes are surprisingly good.
