  1. I'm a #20 Flouro guy. Check your line often and retie as needed.
  2. Wait till you make a hard hook set on a short line and watch that dink fly over your head.
  3. Excaliber for sure. The SK KVD's are decent baits. Cabelas has an Excaliber look alike called the Pork Chop and I picked up a couple and was pleased with the quality overall, especially for the price. I still like the Bomber Balsa A but they are subject to breaking on rocks.
  4. A LEWS Tournament Pro would balance very nice with that Duckett. I like my LEWS over my Revo Premiers. At least consider them.
  5. There are over 200 species of crayfish in north America. They each change color during the course of their active season. Check with with a local biologist what you have in your region. That should give you a good starting point.
  6. I fish hollow body baits exclusively on a scrounger head. After they tear, and they will, apply Mend It and get some more use out of them. Use the largest hook you can get on what ever brand head you like. It's the deal.
  7. Strange. I try to use rods that multi task too but, Spinnerbait, spook, light carolina casting. Glass crankin stick for traps and divers. Jerkbait/topwater casting. Tube, grub spinning. Dropshot spinning On special days I have a dedicated rod for the spook with braid. I do carry matched spinning rods, one for tubes and one with a hula grub so I can switch up quickly. Six sticks is plenty.
  8. Wahington State Fish and Game have some of the best guys and gals I have met. Bass fisheries are rarely patrolled becuae the salmon, steelhead and sturgeon anglers out number bass fisherman about 200 to one. The local district sergeant is a great guy. When I went to Clear Lake in April I was checked on day two. Those guys were professional and one was a tournament angler who freely shared info with us when he saw we were C and R advocates.
  9. Road Warrior pitched Yo-Zuri when I first came on board. Tried it and it's all I use now with no complaints.
  10. Give Ed at Tackle-It in Lakeport a call. He's on the web. He has his own brand of baits called Maverick Baits and has some hand poured worms specifically for Clear Lake and they are awesome. He's a great guy and will give you solid reliable information.
  11. I have two Tournament Pros and two Tournament series. I have had zero problems and they are great casters and super smooth. I prefer the LEWS over my Revos hands down.
  12. I keep a few records but not near as detailed as those mentioned. The most important issues were the date, water temp, the water level, the wind/weather, time started and time the trip ended. I fish a body of water and the water level is a critical piece. For some reason, I remember the lures, presentations and all that other information fairly well. That works well enough for me.
  13. I agree with DVC for the most part. Each angler has their personal preference in actions. I wanted a rod that was light, balanced, being a 7-6 or 8-0 will feel tip heavy and sensitive is a must. I had to go outside my normal preferred manufacture to get what I wanted, but it was worth it. Flippin sticks are one rod I want a full rear handle on as well.
  14. I flew out here to Ohio on the 2nd from Washington. What a trip. I have never seen so many ponds in my life. The folks out here are nice people. It's quite a contrast from the Pacific Northwest seeing the sights. I won't get to fish while here but that's okay. Seeing my best friend and his family is awesome to say the least. Maybe a trip on Erie when I come back next year ?? Anyone on the forum from Ohio, you can be proud of your state, it's pretty slick out here. The weird thing is there is only one Starbucks in a city of thirty seven thousand people.
  15. Got a seven a couple weeks ago flippin heavy vegetation. Managed a few other decent fish but the bite was slow.
  16. The copy of my home owner's insurance policy. The difference between men and boys is not their toys but how they insure them.
  17. This is his 4th post. Okay SK, you will obtain a more defined response if your question is more defined. That's just a tip for you in future posts. Consider a 6-6 to 7 foot medium heavy action with a fast tip and a quality baitcaster in six point something to one gear ratio. Manufacture options are endless. Welcome to the forum !!
  18. Wait until you see the reel that Rick designed to fit on that reel seat !!! He is such an innovator.
  19. I would cherish the memories of fish I released and anglers I have met over the past (many) years.
  20. That is without question, the best reel deal I have ever heard of. Was the tackle store the trunk of a car in an alley by chance ?
  21. I bought fly tying materials and poppers from Herters when I was in junior high. What a memory. Do you remember 10 ounce bottles of Nesbitts in a dispenser that was a chilled water bather with rails. A nickle and slide the bottle out and pop the cap on the opener attched to the side of the unit. Sweet times man.
  22. He just has a penchant for dark humor.
  23. THERE'S SOMETHING TO BE SAID FOR PERFECT COMEDIC TIMING. THAT WAS FUNNY.
  24. Stasher's situation is a bit more complex than most understand. An internship is not a ride along. He is expected to perform some type of service within the police agency that qualifies him. The position is by it's very nature, temporary and requires him to have some type of background and clearance process in anticipation he will be exposed to sensitive information and or materials. He NEEDS this opportunity to meet his degree requirements. Be persistent Stasher. It may not be the fact you completed the internship that sets you apart but that you were able to enter the internship at all, considering the road blocks you are dealing with. The average officer will test with 5 agencies before they are hired. Don't "looze" the faith.
  25. It's a shame you were not notified of the circumstances in advance. But it is what is. Take this situation and spin it and turn it into an advantage for you. Reschedule the appointment without complaint and sell your qualities which include commitment and flexibility. Demonstrate your level of maturity and professionalism, even if it was not provided to you. Complete your internship and build a relationship with the staff person that was responsible to meet you, but failed to contact you. He/she will realize your qualities and may be the advocate that pushes you over top when it's time to offer you a full time position. Agencies these days are finding it very difficult to come up with qualified applicants. I for one would hate to see you soured and your potential go to waste. I do the new hire civil service background investigations for my agency. Good luck in your future career! BTW, when you become an officer, deputy, agent and someone wants to dig you with the donut thing, tell them that's fine but first before they speak they have to qualify themselves by first being: stabbed, cut, punched, elbowed, kicked, bit, stuck with an infected needle, spat on, sued, told a mother their child was just killed, watched a person commit suicide in their presence, investigate a four year girl's death by torture, remove a body from a river, do three years without a wage increase and then, being struck by a fleeing felon doing 90 miles per hour during a pursuit. It's amazing how those stupid comments seem to disappear.
