  1. Clearly, you have done some homework and have an eye for good stuff. It's all personal prefeence. I can't argue on your reel choices. I own or have owned each of your selections. The cranking rod is one rod I would suggest you revisit. I have owned Loomis CB rods and Lamiglas CB rods ( still do ). I would also suggest the Dobyns Champion 705CB Glass. At least research them. It's one of Dobyns' best sellers and for good reason. Welcome to the forum ! I'm 40 miles north of you !!!! PM me anytime. Doug
  2. Your uncle is most likely under a set of pro staff rules that apply to providing product. Be careful you don't put him in a bad spot.
  3. There was a time when the T handle was popular because reel seats were metal. That meant heavy and cold. Tape on the cork was much more comfortable. New grip and reel seat designs over came that problem and so went the T handle. I still have one, a 7' drop shot rod for real light line. It's a great rod.
  4. Yes. This model is graphite base and glass tip. Not only will you feel botom contact, you will feel bait vibration very well. I fished Lamiglas SR705R's for several years. I fished the Champion 705 and never looked back.
  5. Got mine on an all reels on sale day. $157.60 each. They even spooled Suffix Elite line for 1 cent a yard on them.
  6. Welcome and enjoy !
  7. Definately the DX742SF. Better yet, it will also make a fantasic shaky head stick for you. Put a Stradic on it and you will be dialed. I'm also using mine for hula grubs on deep clear smallmouth lakes/rivers. You will be able to turn a four pounder.
  8. I needed a new trolling motor and lucked on a guy from Oregon who had a brand new Motor Guide Tour Edition in the box with paperwork and I met him in my home town for the purchase. I got it for Half the Cabelas price !! We met at the new mini Cabelas ( ironic ) and they had Xcalibur squarebills for four bucks so I managed a couple of colors I didn't have yet. Then the best part, got to take my Mom out to lunch before the four hour drive home. Wait, she baked me chocolate chip cookies. They come in four.
  9. For the type of baits you have mentioned I would go with the 705CB Glass and not the MF unless you want the softer parabolic action that extends much further into the base of the blank. The two models you mention are really opposites of each other. The 705CB Glass is more in the middle of spectrum. It has a nice reactive tip and super power in the lower portion of the blank which I like. It's a very versatile rod and my preference for cranking mid depths and deeper. Hope this helps. Edit, The 705CBMF is consistent with the Lamiglas Excel 705G if you have ever fished that rod.
  10. Did I read something about the qualifier, " affordable ?" I just spooled a new reel yesterday with the outdated and inferior Power Pro green for a nickle a yard. Would that be viewed as affordable ?
  11. Someone forgot to mention the Rage chunk. If you want a compact bait, it's the deal.
  12. Shallow clear water when you want a smaller profile and slower fall. Power finesse if there is such a thing.
  13. I get FLW because of the club I'm in, BASS as a gift from my buddy. The subscription I buy and like the best is Bass Angler magazine. Glen covered the reasons pretty well.
  14. I looked at both of them today while shopping. Price point is 199 and 219. Both are attractive, lots of features, nice ergonomics and both felt smooth and tight. These are Okuma's best freshwater BC offerings to date. They may turn out to be a player in the market. I was not so impressed that I would switch from my Lews but they look good at first sight.
  15. It's all about miles. I changed to sythetic because I had 75K, do alot of short runs and cold starts. My region in low dust/dirt. I picked up 2 MPG as a bonus. Apply that any way you can.
  16. My wife My kids My grand daughters !! Pay day When the lawn mower starts with one pull My Tackle Warehouse order on the front step SoFlaBassAddict's rod tube mis-mailed to me A breakfast burrito with salsa verde Peanut M and M's Gas prices going down A good day of fishing Road Warrior saying a SR705R is " da bomb " RED whacking his 8-13 ( you dog you !! ) Two ply in the stall at work When these don't work.......I have a little blue pill I take with milk before bed.
  17. It's relevent to the body of water itself. Do your homework on forage base. Look at the season, prespawn, spawn, post spawn and fall feed-winter. Spinnerbaits, cranks, jerkbaits and jigs. Water temp and clarity will direct you to the area and choose a bait that gets you through the cover options quickly. I like a spinnerbait as a search bait alot. I would pick the jig over plastics in cold water. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
  18. Okay, i'll kick in. This kind of crap.. Two years ago I was clearling an intersection for a pursuit heading into my city. The suspect driver lost control at 100 MPH on the off ramp, rolled and went airborn and broad sided my rig at over 80 MPH. I was six feet away from being 6 feet under. I survived with minimal injury. A miracle. Yes I believe in God. This jack wipe was in a stolen car, was drunk .316, had meth in his system has a Federal arrest warrant, two felony warrants and three misdemeanor warrants and had been pursued for the past 60 miles. The PA read his prior 38 felony convictions into the record at sentencing. The judge, and I use that term loosely, listened to this poor misdirected, misunderstood, victim of society and the demons of his drug addiction, as he boo hooed about his terrible life and the judge gave him an Emmy and a sentence of 27 months with 27 months probation. That's not the end !!! The guy got out of prison, violated parole in ONE DAY and moved out of county. Then he stole a car, drank a half of a fifth of booze, got in a pursuit, hit a Dodge Ram truck so hard the truck careened into a passenger car. The truck driver had a broken leg, concussion and ruptured spleen. The passnger faired no better. The poor guy in the car had broken ribs and a broken pelvis. That's still not the end !!!!! This jack *** managed to run from the scene into a restaurant and attempted to hide in the bathroom where the officers found him. The jack wipe fought the officers and had to be tased, I like that part, I have to admit and was taken into custody. If this crap weasel had been sentenced at the appropriate range, 67 months, this may have never happened. So much for judicial compassion. Pathetic. That grinds my gears boys. Time for a Twinkie and a glass of milk.
  19. She still has the BEST rendition of the Star Spangled Banner I have ever heard, period. How sad.
  20. Ima Roumba. That has been a very productuve bait. I bought a Black Dog Shellcracker from Webertime and it will see some serious water time this year. I'm a believer in that bait. Right Franco ?
  21. The Cabelas and Dicks are hours from me. They have squat for bass gear. I support my local independent!! They try hard to have decent selections and special order anything they can for me and their reel prices are insanely low. If I can't get it from them, it's Tackle Warehouse for me for everything else.
  22. I'm no scientist and certainly not an engineer and can't explain my observations, but, I feel my newer rods do transmit vibration or feel better than what I fished many years ago. The materials are quite different though and more, the design, including reel seats. I had one of the very first Lamiglas boron rod blanks and built a rod with it. I hated that rod. It was to have been THE cutting edge material at the time. Haven't you ever picked up a rod and the blank felt dead ? It was like tapping something on a guitar string verses a wet noodle? Materials, manufacturing processes, design and balance all seem to effect the feel I have with my bait. Now for the mud. Line type makes a larger difference for me than the rod. Blasphemer !!! The first time I fished flouro I was amazed. Then came tungsten. So many factors. Where does that " feel " translate ? I agree, vibration to the hand. Great stuff.
  23. I just watched this program. Hat's off to Jason Quinn. For those who have never seen this TV program, it's pretty darn special.
  24. That's not fair. Soft Pink is my go to for steelhead jigs in clear water. For BASS fishing. I don't think so. I watched Jimmy Houston whack the bass on a bubble gum spinnerbait. Tried one. Bust.
