  1. I have some of each. I find myself using pencil syle 90 % of the time but I fish large rivers. There are some parts of the Columbia that the rock is volcanic and will eat DS weights so I will use hollow core pencil lead and crimp it on. If you hang up, it pulls off. Cut, crimp and go, just like drift fishing for steelhead.
  2. Welcome to my world. Low of 37 high of 44 with winds 18 to 28 out of the N/E and heavy showers.
  3. Welcome from Cowlitz County WA. My son lives in Bellingham.
  4. Call in sick when you are not ? I don't think so.
  5. Zona is a goof ball. He doesn't take him self seriously and laughs at himself as much as anyone. That I like. I watched his show when he took his boys out. I like what I saw as he was a dad. The man knows his smallmouth and gets as excited as anyone when he gets something going and catches them. How can you not appreciate that.
  6. 1/2 scrounger head.
  7. " like all our rods" Would you elaborate on the our part? If you have 13 guides in a straight line on a blank and 13 guides that are "spiral wrapped. " how is the later guide placement lighter ? If spiral wrapped rods are more sensative, why haven't I seen them on all the other high end manufacture's offerings ? This is a stange post. It's a good likeness of Mr. Loomis on the sales brochure though.
  8. The Snip for me as well. That's a slick product.
  9. Phil, You got a reel you were anxious to try out so you could maximize your efforts when you fish crank baits. That's part of the excitement of fishing. When you took it out you found out how use the adjustment features to maximize YOUR casting abilities and once you applied it, you had your expectations met or what seems to be well exceeded. That's gravy. Enjoy your stuff. It is working for you. My BB1 works for me. This gig gets way too complicated. Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors for a reason. Doug
  10. I'm still holding out for a Rage spider jig !!!!
  11. I used to race motocross. Over the years I switched manufactures and models, always looking to find a bike that fit my riding style and budget. The funny part was there were races where I would get beat by riders competing on the manufacturer and model I changed from. The point is, regardless of what rode, we all enjoyed the experience of racing.
  12. It's all about the profile but being a cop I will get sued if I profile.
  13. I have a set of Dryhide/StormHide that is uninsolated for warmer days and they are very good and were reasonable. I found some Cabelas Guidewear last September and got both bibs and parka for under two hundred bucks. I really like them and you will stay DRY. My buddy just got some Simms and it's incredible but very expensive. Being in Washington you never have to wear the stuff. It never rains here.
  14. If you need someone to convince you to buy a reel, you may want to back up and reconsider.
  15. Luhr Jensen Speed Trap, pick a color Spro S-waver, baby bass Northstar Swim Jig in gill with a SK Redfish magic trailer ( killer bait ) Roboworm in Aaron's Magic Normans Deep Little N in Log Perch
  16. TW has a full stock of all the colors. Stock up. Decent bait.
  17. Bouncing fish accounts for high percentage of blank failures. When you place the stress of the weight of the fish on a small portion of the blank, and that stress was in excess of the design, it will break. I have a friend who is a rod designer. He was becoming frustrated because anglers were bouncing fish and grabbing the blank at or beyond the shut off point and iscolating the stress where the tube is smaller diameter and the wall thickness of the tube thins. That's what allows the blank to flex at all. Lay a rod on the floor, pick it up with two fingers at the last guide before the tip. Now try and lift the rod from that location so the butt cap comes off the floor. SNAP. It's the same principle. IF you plan on boat swinging any fish, you better use momentum, gradual lift and speed and place the stress of the weight on the lower section of the blank. The rod makers will love you for it. Better yet, reach down and grab that fish by the lip......look at it face to face, spit a little and yell...I got you....I got you sucker.
  18. Where's the science ? I read a study provided by fish biologists for the University of Minnesota several years ago. Bass have a limited memory. The stimulis that triggered memory was nerve based, like pain. Certain stimulis provided by certain lure types remained in the memory longer than others. The lure type that fish would strike sooner after being hooked? The plastic worm. No Noise, No large water displacement, longer slender profile bait. Here's a thought that puzzles me. I have heard or read from Bass Pros that bass will target a food source because they " know " it has a higher level of protien and or calcium, the crawfish. Bass will target blue back herring over a shad because the blueback herring has a higher concentration of fatty oils. Bass must be pretty darned smart.
  19. I've added five more since this photo. Good stuff.
  20. That's what you call fishing shallow.
  21. My oldest daughter had to tinkle one time during a trip to the lake. It wouldn't have been that embarrassing....but in the launch parking pot waiting to off load ? I guess the pot-a-potty was pretty rank.
  22. I made the jump shortly after Lews introduced the Tournament and Tournament Pro models. I bought my first Lews in 1979. I know it's an intirely different company and design but I had to see what they were doing. The first thing I noticed was great ergonimics. They are very comfortable in the hand. Reduced weight was another issue. After fishing one month the performance was obvious. They are great casters. The drags have been solid. No mechanical failures to date. What you get for the money makes them a great value.
  23. Swivels. Can't stay out of the swivel isle. Black, brass, chrome, ball bearing, snaps and no snaps. I've lost all control.
