  1. Thanks for the replys. To show my ignorance of the area, Roadwarrior, what is the Botel? Is the water high most of the Fall or just at certain times?
  2. 00 MOD, what bait were you using to catch such a variety of fish? Live bait? Would you consider fishing below the d**n to be too hazardous for someone that has never fished there? I have fished right below the d**n, but not further down river. I felt the ramp was not real conducive to launching and loading for someone fishing by themselves, because there didn't seem to be a good place to tie up your boat while pulling your vehicle in and out of the launch. I caught 5 good LM Sat., mainly close to Dry Creek dragging a heavy swim jig with a plastic shad. Since I've never fished the lake in Jan. or Feb., I'm wondering how much the LM pattern will change from what it is now. I suspect that when the water temp. gets much below 45 the bass will go even deeper. True? And yes, I have an A rig order!
  3. Thanks for all the help. I'm retired and plan to spend the time to either figure this out or take up bungee jumping without the bungee!
  4. MFBAB, The bouys make sense. I have looked at contour maps of the lake, especially from the d**n to Yellow Creek, and I can't see what I would call "ledges". Maybe I'm looking for something too dramatic, or I'm just too old understand! Thanks for the help.
  5. I have never really fished deep water anywhere. I would like to fish the ledges for Fall and Winter bass at Pickwick, but I am having trouble finding the "ledges". I only have a cheap Lowrance that came with my boat. I don't think I can afford a side imaging unit, but I am considering it. I have a couple of maps, but they don't show the contours very well. I can find drop offs, but can't seem to distinguish how they run or if they would be productive. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Moderators, if this topic needs to be moved to another forum please feel free to do so.
  6. When do the shad start moving up into the creeks and schooling in the Fall on Pickwick?
  7. While shopping for a new baitcaster, I noticed that several reels publish how much "drag" the reel has. Why would this be important and what does it mean? All the reels I've owned have an ajustable drag, so why would I pay more for a reel with a higher rated drag?
  8. I will also be a marshall at Pickwick. I will see you in our meeting tomorrow afternoon.
  9. Haven't tried the BBQ, but I bet it's good. We always like BBQ'd brisket when we go back to Texas.
  10. Hideaway Harbor is just next door to Quail Hallow and may share the same ramp. The rooms at Hideaway were ok, small but clean and cost about $60 to $65. The shower was extremely small. The two boat ramps weren't great but ok. If you want a real good and big burger, take 1950 over to 154. There is a place called, I think, Big O Burger. If you want a good full lunch or dinner meal try going just about a mile or so south of the bridge on 154 to Oak Ridge Marina. Great chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken! Very clean!
  11. Bass Chaser is right: "Please be mindful of the rough water in March as Fork can really get to rolling." The last time I went we had high winds and rain and the lake was extremely rough. I happened to be in a 16 ft. alum.! You can get around the lake pretty easy by using the numerous public ramps, instead of running the main lake. However, be careful. Some of these ramps are dangerous when the lake is low. The ramp at the south side of the 154 bridge looks great, when you put in all is well. When you try to get out, the water is very low at the wooden dock. Even in the small alum. boat, I had to raise the outboard to keep from hitting the bottom around the dock. This makes it very dicey when the wind is howling! I am going back at least a couple of times between Feb. and June. Can't wait! Caught an 8.68 last Sept., my pb. Can't imagine how great it would be to catch a double digit!!!!!
  12. I put in at the stateline ramp between TN and MS. I have put in at the Pickwick State Park a few times and ran across to Dry Creek.
  13. I do put in at Yellow Creek.
  14. What are you fishing around the docks?
  15. OK, I am about ready to give up! Went back to Pickwick yesterday. Started about 7:30 and stopped about 2:30. Thought the conditions were perfect for most of the day. Caught practially nothing!!!! Fished Yellow Creek and the "weed beds" in the main lake opposite the mouth of Yellow. I tried crankbaits and rattletraps, mainly in shad and sexy shad colors, both deep and shallow. Tried worms, shades of green and purple. Green lizard Texas rigged. All to no avail! Is it just me or, are the bass not biting?????
  16. Just returned from Pickwick. Water temp was 69 to 70. Thought the bite would be great, but it was bad. I talked to several other folks who said the same thing. Maybe I'm just fishing it wrong! Caught a 16" smallie first thing, then only caught 8 to 10 small spots in a day and a half.
  17. lynyrdsky1 - hate to show my ignorance of the area, but what is "aqua" and where is it located?
  18. triglet - I will also be at Pickwick on Wed. I am bringing my wife and we will stay over and fish Thurs. if the fish are biting. mr mallard, I will post the water temp when I return.
  19. Good Luck at Lake Fork. I was there Sept. the 22nd and 23rd. They had held the McDonalds tournament the weekend before we arrived and the fish took a pretty bad beating. We didn't catch many fish, but I did catch an 8.68 pounder. Caught the big one on a Norman DD14 in about 15 to 20 foot of water.
  20. Anyone have an updated fishing report for Pickwick? Has the water temperature dropped?
  21. Does anyone have current information on the water levels at Pickwick? I'm headed there tomorrow, Wed., and would appreciate a heads up on the conditions.
  22. I live in Bartlett. I don't own a boat, but have a share/rental deal with a buddy. I am retired and can go just about anytime, so yes, I would to hook up with you. You can PM me if you would like.
  23. Thanks for the info. I am just starting to learn Pickwick and am driving from Memphis. I have fished Dry creek (I think!) a few times and have been putting in at the public ramp in Pickwick State Park. I am wondering if I could cut my run time to Yellow Creek by putting in somewhere else.
  24. Has anyone fished Yellow or Indian Creek on Pickwick? If so are these creeks good locations and are there public boat ramps on either?
