I am not sure how else to describe the "slime", but will try and give more details. Before our trip I mapped out as many points, drops near the banks, and sudden changes in contour lines in the 12' range (just an arbitrary number chosen after reading this thread for a long time). We worked as many of these as we could, but were forced to fish mainly close to the bank because of the wind. Many times when I would pitch or flip into bushes or close to the bank with a Texas rig I would bring back a wad of slimy, sticky, green, moss all over the weight or bait. I would spend more time removing the stuff than I did fishing. We caught a few small fish with vibrating jigs and hooked one good fish pitching shallow that shook off after partially straightening the hook on the TR. I am not a tournament fisherman, I would just like to be more proficient in catching some "keeper" fish. If the areas with this stuff on the bottom can still be productive I will keep trying them, if not I will move on to other locations if that makes sense. I do not have the skill to fish the deep stuff (much over 20'). I did find a couple of locations where the sidescan showed what appeared to be stumps and laydowns on them where we could have stayed in the 12' range and fished both toward the bank out away from the bank if not for the wind. We never had the chance because the big weather system that came through last week ran us off. Should I be looking for "hard or rock" bottom, or just stuff such a stumps and laydowns in deeper water?
I realize the answer to most of this ramble is in this thread somewhere. I have read it through several times in the past but haven't seen anything relating to the "slime". I drive 8 hours to get to Six Mile or Housen, so I do try to prepare ahead of time.
Anyway, give an old man a little slack and a little help if you can! Thanks!!
