  1. Anyone know if there is any grass to speak of in Pickwick this year?
  2. The Pickwick data shows the lake will be spilling around 108,000 tomorrow and predicted to be 3 to 4 above pool. Would you consider this to be safe water on the main lake for someone in a Bass Tracker 175 and if so what would you think the fishing conditions might be? Also, off topic, tnriver or one of the moderators if you are on here, "How do you PM someone?" I have searched and simply cannot figure it out! Thanks tnriver for both the lake info and the PM message info. I don't know why I had not seen the message envelope! Don't get old, everything goes to heck and back!!!!!!

  4. Thanks tnriver. You were absolutely right. There were a few stray "chunks" in the water but nothing bad and the bite was rather slow, but sometimes you just have to go! There was no current. The water temp ran in the low 80's.
  5. I'm planning on going to Pickwick this week and would like to know the water conditions. I know the TVA is projecting the outflow at the d**n will drop to 47,500 by tomorrow, but does anyone know if there is any significant debris in the water from the flooding upstream? And by the way, are the bass biting? Thanks
  6. Does anyone have a number or numbers to call for emergency assistance on Pickwick Lake, TN in case of a mechanical breakdown. I know you can call local law enforcement, 911, etc. for medical emergencies or accidents, but I would rather not call them for a mechanical breakdown or tow.
  7. I realize this subject was addressed back in 2012, but are there any new tackle storage boxes made specifically for bladed jigs? If so, how well do they work? I have trouble with the box I'm using not keeping the trailers straight and in good shape. Thanks
  8. In answer to my own question take a look at this posted here by Glenn in 2019: Hey folks! I'm delighted to announce we now have free, full functioning Navionics maps available right here on BassResource!! Now you can find and view detailed contour maps of your favorite lakes and rivers without opening a new app or digging through your bookmarks. To access, just go here: https://www.bassresource.com/maps/fishing-spots-maps.html You can also navigate to it by clicking on "Tools" on the top toolbar of any page on BassResource, and then clicking "Interactive Lake Maps".
  9. Can anyone tell me if there are any good digital maps for PCs that include contour lines for lakes in the southeast? I had/have a Navionics map on an old computer, but when I copied it to my new computer I lost all the detail including the contour lines! May be that my subscription with Navionics has expired; but, when I talked to Navionics the young lady said they didn't have maps for PCs and if bought a new chip for my Humminbird 798 (I know it's old, but so am I) the map feature for the PC would not be included.
  10. Returned from Guntersville 2 days ago. Fishing was tough. Mainly fished Mink Creek area and fished in less than 10 feet. Caught one 6.7 lb first day in cove between Honeycomb Creek and the dam using a green chatterbait. She was in about 2' of water and had not spawned. Caught a few small ones that were very light colored that would indicate they had just moved up shallow. Caught the small ones on a variety of baits. Talked to several others and all were having difficulty, including a good local stick. Changing temps and weather seem to have been the predominant excuses for the slow bite. Not as much grass where we were as in the past.
  11. I don't know about crappie fisherman using pallets, but I did see a "panfish" fisherman, not sure he was fishing for crappie, fishing close to one of them. The problem with them, as far as I am concerned, is losing my crankbaits when I hang them!!!! You just can't hardly get the treble hooks out of the fabric!!!!
  12. About 2 weeks ago I located a school of 30 or 40 large Asian Carp in Dry Creek, Pickwick Lake, TN on my side imaging. I know they were Asian Carp because I foul hooked and landed one in the 15 lb. class. This is certainly disheartening for me because I love to fish what little grass we have in the lake! Has anyone else seen the carp in Pickwick? Next subject. I have seen what appears to be cement in white fabric bags in several locations including in the Burton Branch and Dry Creek areas. If you hang one of these with a crankbait it is almost impossible to retrieve the lure. They appear to be holding down something similar to wooden pallets. Does anyone know what these are?
  13. You might want to check out this website: http://www.fishinglakeguntersville.com/ While a lot of the information is a little outdated, there is still a lot of good general information about seasonal trends, lures, etc.
  14. You weren't close. You were right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Good guess Catt! Thanks for both of you guy's comments. I started to call it snot grass to start with!! I don't know where Stewart's Ridge is, but will find out.
  16. I am not sure how else to describe the "slime", but will try and give more details. Before our trip I mapped out as many points, drops near the banks, and sudden changes in contour lines in the 12' range (just an arbitrary number chosen after reading this thread for a long time). We worked as many of these as we could, but were forced to fish mainly close to the bank because of the wind. Many times when I would pitch or flip into bushes or close to the bank with a Texas rig I would bring back a wad of slimy, sticky, green, moss all over the weight or bait. I would spend more time removing the stuff than I did fishing. We caught a few small fish with vibrating jigs and hooked one good fish pitching shallow that shook off after partially straightening the hook on the TR. I am not a tournament fisherman, I would just like to be more proficient in catching some "keeper" fish. If the areas with this stuff on the bottom can still be productive I will keep trying them, if not I will move on to other locations if that makes sense. I do not have the skill to fish the deep stuff (much over 20'). I did find a couple of locations where the sidescan showed what appeared to be stumps and laydowns on them where we could have stayed in the 12' range and fished both toward the bank out away from the bank if not for the wind. We never had the chance because the big weather system that came through last week ran us off. Should I be looking for "hard or rock" bottom, or just stuff such a stumps and laydowns in deeper water? I realize the answer to most of this ramble is in this thread somewhere. I have read it through several times in the past but haven't seen anything relating to the "slime". I drive 8 hours to get to Six Mile or Housen, so I do try to prepare ahead of time. Anyway, give an old man a little slack and a little help if you can! Thanks!!
  17. I just returned from a very unsuccessful trip to Six Mile Creek. Wind and weather combined with poor fishing skills were the main culprits! My question is this: How do you deal with the slime on the bottom in certain places? Do you just not fish the area, because it will probably not be productive, or do you just use a bait that rides higher in the water column?
  18. Has anyone fished Caddo that could provide me some general information? Considering a trip there just to try something different. Is it a good lake? Thanks.
  19. I'm thinking of going to Pickwick this coming Monday and would appreciate any information on the water conditions from the dam to Yellow Creek.
  20. Has anyone fished Lake Fork lately? Could I get some indication of the bite and how much grass is present? I know September is a tough month on Fork, but I will be heading there on 9/8. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. The state park is a good value, but depending on where you are fishing it can be a time consuming drive leaving the park. The road is quite steep and winding. It can get interesting when it is raining and you are pulling a boat! We are going stay at the Hampton in June. The free breakfast almost makes up for the difference in price when you are feeding a 17 year old boy!
  22. Fished partial days the last two days on Pickwick, launching at Yellow Creek and going as far north as Dry Creek. Didn't get out of Yellow the first day because of wind. No matter where we went, it seemed the wind followed us! Caught 15 or 16 both days, 90% on plastics. Caught a lot of dinks in edge of flooded timber along with one 4+. Water is now above average summer pool. Most of the water we fished was a little stained but was definitely not muddy.
  23. Can I get a few more specifics about the carpet? I am considering putting new carpet in my 2006 175. Where did you get the carpet and is it a "berber" style? I don't understand how you can have no seams?
  24. Good looking carpet. What type/brand is it? I doesn't look like "standard" carpet.
  25. How low can the Lake Fork water level be and still be safe to launch at the major ramps, such as at Lake Fork Marina and the Minnow Bucket?
