  1. My first car is a '67 Impala that my dad and I bought when I was 15. He moved to Virginia this past summer, and I can't afford to pay for storage while in school, so it's parked near his place for now. Originally a tired 327, powerglide (2 speed auto) and 3.08 gears. Currently runs a built 396 (somewhere around 425-450 horsepower or so), T400 automatic, 3.73s and an Eaton limited slip in a 12 bolt. Faster than daddy's modded Cobra I'm lucky to have a very nice little Dodge pickup to drive every day, but nothing replaces the feeling of a 4400lb car that black-tracks the tires into second gear.
  2. I'd have to say the lake would be around 8 or 900 acres, very little development, close enough to fish there whenever I want, electric only (peace and quiet, no jet skiers), loaded with various types of cover and structure, and full of big bass. Wait a minute... I have that :-) adam
  3. John - That is my boat, exactly too - Just in a little bit better shape :-) I never decked mine out, just stripped it and painted it early this summer, and it went right back to being ugly in about 3 trips out. As far as the hydrilla gorilla/jon boat book, I suggest you don't waste your money. I have a copy you can look at, but I wasn't impressed at all. One look at one of the converted boats on here tells you more than that book could. Also, go to BPS or any boat dealer and look one of the nice aluminum Tracker bass boats over - there are some neat ideas to be had just snoopin around inside of a Tournament 17. adam
  4. Wow - very nice. Add me to the list of people who would be interested if the action and weght are right. Those things look great. adam
  5. I'm in :-) I'd be more than pleased to slap some more Georgia mojo on that thing! adam
  6. Hm... me and a couple of my buddies at Tech did our own little experiment and found that it's closer to 7 or 8 minutes with a 6 pack and a bag of ice with a little water mixed in a 5 gallon bucket. The salt for sure gets the beer colder though - I've had it slush-up in the cooler before. Just my 2 cents on my second favorit subject. adam
  7. I'd say pick up a transom mount Minn Kota Endura 30 (around $100 new) and a Everstart Maxx Marine battery ($65 in GA, but I'm sure that price varies with environment fees and taxes and such). Trolling motor attaches with two clamps that tighten by hand. As far as carrying the setup to and from the car/boat, the motor will be light (I think less than 25lbs). The battery, on the other hand, will be 50+ and is not the most comfortable thing to drag around. However, this setup would certainly beat the fool out of rowin' good luck adam
  8. Dude - that absolutely rocks. I bet your mom is extremely proud. Heck, someday your kids and grandkids are gonna be proud of you when they read that. Congrats, man. adam
  9. Well, it seems like whenever I hook a fish while the TM is running, I'll get run up on something before I can land the fish and cut the trollin motor off. Oh well. I fish electric only lakes, and a new prop every few weeks is cheaper than gas. adam
  10. If you haven't looked at the Kipawa props, I'd go check out their website. They are fairly expensive (~$40), and at the rate I go through props (seems like 1 or 2 a month), I can't justify the cost, even if there is a siginificant added gain in performance. If you do buy a kipawa be sure to report back to the board. I really want one, and am curious about the real world results. In the mean time, I'll stick to the $15 replacement stock props. adam
  11. Russ - I think this is a killer idea, and I've seen similar things done on the 4x4 and dragracing boards I frequent. It'd probably be easier If you set up a list in this thread or another one so that people know where the 'mojo charm' is and where it's going. adam ps - sign me up, but maybe a few spots down the list, as the boat isn't in the water right now
  12. Milky oil is a result of coolant (in a automobile) or usually water (in an outboard) mixing (this is a 4 stroke, right?). I'm no outboard mechanic, but this could be being caused by a warped block or head surface, blown headgasket, or a failed gasket or seal at any point where oil and water could meet in the engine. In many cases, if a sealing problem between the head and block is bad enough, you will notice a lack of power. Sometimes, you'll leak coolant or oil (or both). Sometimes, all that you can see is whats on the dipstick or oil fill cap. Good luck, and hopefully it's something cheap and easy so you can get back on the water soon. adam
  13. '05 Ram, 4.7/6 speed manual/3.92 gears. Can't even tell the boats back there. Of course, the boats a 14' jon...
  14. I skip under docks on Lanier as a finesse technique using weightless senkos, trick and finesse worms on jig heads and light tubes. I like to use a 6' medium-fast spinning rod with a matching sized reel (I use a stradic 1000) with 6lb mono. As far as technique and learning how to do it, I just make a short, almost whipping, sidearm cast as low to the water as possible. Good luck, adam
  15. Great - thanks a lot. I'll pull the intructions out of the box before I leave bass pro and check to make sure. Appreciate the help, jb. adam
  16. Sounds like a wild question, but I'm setting up a jon boat for electric only lakes and right now I have two deep cycles running a transom mount trolling motor. Before too long, I'm goin to add a foot control trolling motor to the front, and run a dedicated battery for it, which is why I'd like to buy a 3 bank charger now. So, in the short term will a 3 bank charger (specifically the BPS XPS-i 3 bank) still work when connected to only 2 batteries? Thnaks, adam
  17. Good info - thanks a lot. I was wishing i had brought a bag or two of flukes with me (I've had success with the white ice color in other situations). I threw both suspending and floating Rogues with no luck, same for X-raps and the Husky Jerk I tossed to 'em. The advice is all appreciated - hopefully I'll land a few next time. Thanks again. adam
  18. Recently, I was fishing a buddys private lake in Madison County, GA. It was cool (mid-50s) and overcast. While pounding the shallows, I noticed shad balling up on the surface closer to the main lake. As we made our way over 2 or 3 nice large mouth completely cleared the water. Once we started casting toward the area where the bass were feeding, I threw everything we had at them without a bite. Spooks of about 6 different colors and sizes, poppers, hard jerk baits worked at different depths, t-rigged worms, drop shotted Zoom finesse worms and trick worms, and i even tried letting a wacky rigged senko drop right through the center of the action. Not a bite after about an hour of chasing these fish around. The fish were extremely agressive the whole day with probably 20 15"+ large mouths caught. All good fish came on DT6s and DT16s or wacky rigged 5" senkos. Caught fish in submerged stumps, shoreline cover, shallow and deep creek beds. But, why no action from the seemingly most active fish in the lake? What would you have thrown in this situation? Any info/insight is appreciated, as always. adam
  19. Nice topic Anyways, it was my father who introduce me to fishing, as most of you have said. Growing up we'd make a yearly trip to a lake away from home and camp or rent a cabin and fish for a week or two at the end of the summer before school started back up. My drive to fish for bass specifically comes mostly from my oldest brother (10 years older). By the time I was 13 or 14, my dad had become an executive type and had much less time to fish. My brother lived fairly near by, and we would fish together every weekend and sometimes during the week for smallies on lake Wherspan (sp) and other smaller lakes around Omaha, NE.
  20. good God... Ya think the fish were jumping at the light? Maybe the noise in the boat? Just wild...
