  1. Sorry Brushhog, Gravel is the only way to get to Badger Creek. A boat cover or recent rain helps keep the dust down. You may want to put your electronics in the cab of the truck with you to keep the dust from scratching up the screens. I personally have an aluminum boat but there are alot of guys who fish out of nice fiberglass boats out there. The Monday night tournaments will start May 3rd.
  2. I live in Urbandale, and I fish all over Central Iowa. I fish with the Hawkeye Bass Anglers out of Des Moines and I also fish the Monday night bass tournaments at Badger Creek and the Wednesday night Big Bass Tournaments at West Lake Osceola.
  3. I am mixing Silicone with Flatline rubber from fishingskirts.com. They look really good in the sink! Can't wait to fish with them this spring.
  4. I used three tabs for those jigs. Gotta take it slow to pull them through the Skirt Making tube, but it makes a real full skirt and they breathe real good in the kitchen sink. It will be a couple three months before we are fishing again in Iowa.
  5. Here are some jigs I made last night from fishingskirts.com. I used the BOSS Football jigs, the Flatline Rubber and Natural series silicone skirts.
  6. Check out fishingskirts.com. They have a wide assortment of colors and such.
  7. I agree with a couple of the replies. From Minneapolis, it is 640 miles to Grand Lake of the Cherokees or about a 9 hour drive. If you go to Lake Fork, it is another 300 miles past Grand Lake or a 14 hour drive. I guarantee you that Grand Lake will be less crowded. Grand Lake has some great fishing in March and April, but the chance of catching a true hog is at Lake Fork. You may have trouble finding a place to stay at Lake Fork because alot of rooms are already booked up. If you go to Grand, check out accommodations at not only Grove, OK but check out Miami, OK also.
  8. I don't blame you FFD, I wouldn't fish either. I fished a BFL a few years back down at Lake of the Ozarks and it was 22 degrees at launch. The Marina was iced up when we got back for weigh-in. Our low here tonight in Iowa is -14! It will be 3 months before we are fishing again up here. I do want to thank Catt and FFD for all their information about Toledo Bend. I lived down in Lake Charles, LA for 4 years and fished Big Sam and TB alot. Although I have been in Iowa for 3 years now, I still find it interesting to read about those two places and what the fishing is like down there.
  9. What is the water temps for Toledo right now? The water temps will dictate how warm it will be while on the water. Have you ever noticed in the early spring when water temps are lower than the air temp that you are cold when on the water, but warm when you get back to the ramp. We have that problem here in Iowa shortly after Ice out. You will see the air temp at 70 and the water temps are still in the 40s and you will freeze you butt off when out on the water.
  10. I am going start making my own skirts here soon and was wanting to hear opinions on using rubber skirts versus using Silicone and possibly using both on some jigs. Are Rubber skirts better in cold weather? Warm Weather? I know there are a lot more color selections with silicone, but I just like rubber better for action.
  11. Everyone has an opinion and I really liked the X-TEX Cobra line. It was definitely my favorite line to use. Regular Hybrid is okay to use, but it doesn't compare to the toughness of the Cobra line. I have actually had to wrap the 14lb test line around a boat cleat and use the trolling motor to pull up a large waterlogged branch with a jig lodged in it. I saved the jig and the line was just fine! I have one 200yd spool of 20lb left and it will be on my three flipping sticks this spring. I felt the 14lb test was great for worms and senkos. You could feel the bass inhale the senko with that line and my Falcon rods. The picture of the 8lber was caught on 14lb test Cobra line and I had no worries bringing her in!
  12. Yes, this is the Yo-Zuri Website, but you cannot buy it from their website. :-/
  13. Does anyone know where I can find someone who still sells Yo-Zuri X-TEX Cobra line? I know Yo Hybrid is good line, but I really like the X-TEX line
  14. I caught a 9lb,14oz Largemouth on Sam Rayburn a couple years back on a 5" Senko in color 236. I caught it on August 30th in 8ft of water on the end of a Hydrilla point. I thought it was a bluegill bite a first till I felt it swimming away and when I set the hook, oh lord the fight was on!
  15. I am trying to decide which of these two lines to try out this upcoming spring. I was wondering if anyone has used either one and what their thoughts, experiences have been. I mainly fish jigs and worms, so I like a tough abrasion resistant line that has little stretch. I used to use Yo-Zuri E-TEX Cobra line, but they have discontinued making it.
