  1. Fireline has its place. I use it for small river fishing where theres a lot of snags. Its great for dragging hogs out of cover and unsnagging your trebles (have straightened several hooks where other lines would have broken). That being said... Fireline Crystal is VERY visible to fish. I use the black original with no leader. works ok in dirty water. I don't use it in gin clear water. It does fray if dragged across logs, rocks, etc. It has decent abrasion resistance, but this is due to (I think) it's inherent strength. It can stand to lose a few strands and still be stronger than most lines. It does NOT tie well to fluoro. Especially with an alberto knot. It is noisy in rod guides. I believe that some of that noise is transmitted DOWN the line to the lure (and fish). If you don't have your drag set right and you snag a log or a hog and think you're gonna get a little tough with it, you WILL break your rod. (don't ask me how I know this) :-X and finally, it makes great dental floss.
  2. well then maybe what I'll do is keep one of the two STX's for a froggin rod and put the other one up for a ch50mg trade on here. are they an even trade?
  3. I want to get a 50mg for light cranks and such, but I think I just got a deal on 2 Revo STX's, Will the STX cast lightweight stuff as well as the chronarch? Its going on an avc70mm. what has been your experience?
  4. I think it'll be the terrova for a couple reasons... 1. although the i-pilot is nice and I'm sure quite useful, I still want the option to use the foot pedal when I want. 2. I fish a lot of water full of stumps and submerged boulders. I can already see that beefier mount getting put to good use. WHEN I CAN AFFORD IT... it'll be terrova.
  5. no matter how you cast it, remember... smooth it...don't whip it.
  6. What's the difference between the Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 and the Terrova models? They both seem to have the same description. I know they're the only two Minn Kota models that are compatable with i-Pilot. Am I missing something?
  7. I think that was the case for ALL the fish last friday. :-/
  8. I had the same trouble on Friday. I hit some right on the nose and they just swam off. Do you just have to tick 'em off in order to get them to strike?
  9. > Mid spawn, in a sheltered cove with water temps at 64 degrees, a full 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the lake. water clarity at 3-4 ft. could see LMB on beds, and more active fish cruising the cove, totaling more than 100 fish. Threw almost everything at 'em, starting out fast with a spinnerbait, and crankbaits, then progressively slowed the presentation to plastics. I couldn't even get the bedding fish to hit a lizard! I did catch one bluegill on a slow moving BLUEGILL shallow crank! Gotta say...it was a very humbling experience. I think they're just shut down right now. I've fished other days like this and still got 2 or 3 fish as I slowed down to finessing. U guys got any criticizms? anything you mighta done differently?
  10. anyone ever fish JJ's on baits other than soft plastics?
  11. I did. It spun fine. :-/ :-/
  12. No REAL reason I guess... other than accuracy. I've got several spinning combos that'll do the job. It's no fun taking a combo out of my arsenal and not replacing it. (read my other post titled "what the heck". Its about my Quantum with a 3 cast lifespan) I might just add two new combos :)
  13. I left it alone Its back in the box, which is back in the BPS bag and sitting in the passenger seat of my truck. Man it sure was a pain getting the line off of it. I improvised and overcame. Bye Bye Quantum...Hello Curado or Chronarch (or Revo)
  14. part of me wants to take it apart to see what went wrong and learn something. Think I can do that and still be able to return it? My gut says no.
  15. x2 K. Deal. BPS here I come! Was looking for an excuse to go back there anyway. I just need to figure out how to get in and out without the baitmonkey knowing about it!
  16. I like your style RW... I'm a st.Criox kinda guy. Never had a chronarch though... What are we talking for the whole thing... $350 - $400?
  17. guess I shoulda read a little first... "New Shimano or Abu Garcia Bait Caster"
  18. Third cast with my new Quantum KVD reel and the stupid thing locks up. wont reel in, thumb bar wont press, nothing! > > Finally got it to reel in but its really hard and coarse like something's bad wrong. What the heck? Now I gotta go take it apart. What a buzzkill!
  19. Any recommendations on a baitcaster that EXCELS at casting lightweight lures like #6 rapalas and the like. All the stuff I have is on MH rods and doesn't load up and cast lighter lures very well. Need to add a medium setup to the arsenal. I'm thinking (but not limited to) Shimano or Abu. If there's a crankbait rod that EXCELS at this too, I'd like your opinion. Thanks.
  20. Ran into another Viper Cobra owner on the lake yesterday. He said they're making Cobras again. Has anyone heard this or is he fullabull?
  21. I'm in
  22. a good way to swamp (and possibly sink) your boat in any kind of bigger waves or heavy current is to anchor off the stern. ALWAYS anchor off the bow if you can.
  23. one more IMPORTANT thing... make it easy on yourself by making a proper setup before you start backing. what I mean is...align your truck and trailer in a perfect straight line pointing directly where you want to back up. If you start out this way you only have to make small corrections to keep it straight, as opposed to trying to TURN the trailer where you want. trust me...it's a drastic difference in difficulty. good luck!
  24. good info....thanks.
