  1. I've got a 99 Cobra 180. The hull is white. Along and below the waterline there's some yellow staining that doesn't wipe off when I wash my boat. It does come off when I scrape it with my fingernail but its really tough. Any product recommendations? I use BTS but it doesn't seem to help. Am I just applying the BTS wrong? Seems like I need a good rubbing compound that you can use on gelcoat.
  2. One of my good buddies is a Conservation Officer in my area. He frequently gets water detail on a large local lake. He tells me that one of his favorite tickets to write is what he calls the "Idiot Award". It's for "reckless and dangerous operation: Maneuvering your boat recklessly in the vicinity of other boaters, or causing a hazardous wake or wash. If the infraction is serious enough, you can actually get points added to your driver's license. Ron White said it best..."you just can't fix stupid"
  3. It's the reel that I learned to baitcast with at the age of 14. Used to get in trouble from my mother for taking all her coffee cups into the backyard. I would place them all around the yard and practice casting into them with a practice plug. Can still remember the competition with a friend, who can hit the most consecutive cups. The record, I believe, was 16 consecutive hits. Lots of fun!
  4. Anyone have any experience with shimano calcuttas? Had a chance to cast a few times with a buddy's today. I really liked the feel of that reel.
  5. spent a lot of time as a kid down at our pond watching frogs swim. I try to duplicate that action (very light twitch....long pause...dive and swim a short distance....pause again at the surface...light twitch...you get the idea). I've buzzed them past cattails and pads, then made the exact same cast and worked it like a real frog and got bit. There are a lot of frog presentations that work well. This just works best for me most of the time. It's most difficult for me to stay patient and work it slow. Then I get the crap scared out of me when that explosion happens! It's addictive!!
  6. excellent way to do it.
  7. I'm a lineman and I HATE splitbolts. OK for short term, but baaaaadd for permanent connections. also...use some dielectric grease in the connector like "Penetrox" to eliminate corrosion.
  8. Another note on non-maintenance free batteries... you should hose down your batteries with water every so often. filling and charging those type batteries will get some electrolyte solution on the outside of the case. If you put a volt meter on the outside of the case you can show as much as 3 or 4 volts discharge. Spraying down the batteries will help reduce "stand loss discharge", especially it hot weather. if you cant spray it in you boat, it's worth your time to remove the batteries and spray them outside the boat.
  9. yeah, an informative thread. I'm learning a lot, and you guys are changing my mind a little. I think I could see some slowsink hardgills in my future. Ehh... what the heck... I love scuba diving anyway! ;D :
  10. this brings up another question.... why wouldn't you use 80lb braid instead? It seems to me that it would be a lot less likely to break off a $55 lure. Just askin'...
  11. usually 6 on deck (4 casting, 2 spinning) another 6 in the locker (3 casting 3 spinning, these get used about 20 % of the time as loaners or when I didn't plan to use a specific technique that day. Oh, and I got room for more! let's see...where's that flea market link again? ...click!
  12. The day I start buying $55 swimbaits is the same day I'll take up scuba diving! your missing out then , they are not for everyone .... I'm sure (after reading all the positive comments about Matt's lures) that they're a great lure. However, you're right, They're not for everyone. Me included. I fish lakes and rivers filled with snags. It's just not feasible at $55/per for me. I don't think they'd cast or swim to well tied to 80lb braid!
  13. You would be wrong. The bull shark is the only member of the Shark family capable of living in freshwater... and they do it quite well. Bull Sharks are well known to inhabit freshwater rivers in search for food. Some can travel great distances. care to reconsider?
  14. Rage craw & lobster. chigger craw
  15. The day I start buying $55 swimbaits is the same day I'll take up scuba diving!
  16. That pic is not a bull shark. Dorsal fin is too rounded, not a sharp point like a bull. Also, bulls are a very stocky built shark, the shark in the pic is long and lean like a reef shark is built. I don't know what species it is, but I know it isn't a bull shark.
  17. Not sure if it's been done before but I think it's time. Just wanted to get a thread going to say thanks to our BFR Moderators for keeping a clean and tidy forum. Just finished reading the smallie poaching post in the smallie forum. Kent "roadwarrior" did an excellent job moderating that post. Clear, concise, discerning and wise. C'mon guys post your thanks to these guys for all the hard work they do in this forum. We're all lucky to have guys like this running this forum.
  18. anyone have anything to say about this unit? I've got a line on one for $250 "complete". It says "GPS capable". Is the GPS puck all you need to make it GPS? I'm considering it, but would like some input from the experts (yes that's you!).
  19. do you have any attorney friends? Have one make a call for you. my wife's an attorney and when I get in a situation like that, she calls and almost always gets immediate action.
  20. I don't even try to cast anything lighter than 3/16 on a baitcaster. You're just asking for a headache. Spinning tackle is the way to go IMO for stuff that light.
  21. how about "crack oar" ;D ;D
  22. At least he didn't say Chumlee ;D ;D
  23. You look a little like the dude from Pawn Stars.
  24. That GULP! stuff works pretty well for relieving constipation. :-X :-X
