  1. They seem like a good idea for cranks and jerkbaits but would the weight affect suspending jerkbaits?
  2. Are you in Kinnelon SmokeRise1?
  3. I did just try bending it Marty but I dont have a good set of need nose pliers so maybe I twisted it. The good news is it does run true at lower speed retrieves so at least Ive got that much goin for me
  4. Nine Miler, I know that not everyones rods have the same ratings just like a 2/0 gammy isnt the same size as a 2/0 mustad or owner I just though I remember hearing that overall the Bucoos might be a little lighter in the specified power ratings than your average rod (whatever that might be) thanks for all the help though I appreciate it
  5. I'm surprised more people haven't said hard jerkbaits like a pointer or a floating rapala
  6. I got a couple of these and one runs good but the other runs onto its side when retrieved at a faster speed. I may not have tuned it correctly because it keeps rolling onto its side. Any suggestions?
  7. Backlash City! IMO Spinning equipment would be better in this situation plus casting would be inaccurate because the rod doesnt get a chance to load because of the reduced weight. This reminds how people often say use the right tool for the job like spinning equipment for skipping. However I must say I just learned how to skip with a baitcaster and its awesome so maybe try it out and tell us what happens
  8. Bowfish12, is the 6-17 really a heavy power rod or a medium heavy? Also I wanted to be able to use finesse jigs in the 1/4 oz size so the 5-17 seems like it could be better for my needs but when I get a flippin stick I'll probably get the 6-17
  9. Nine Miler I think in the future I'll look at the Gulf Cranker. I may be wrong but it seems like it would be a good deep crankin rod. Also do you know if the Bucoos are correct on their power ratings like would a Medium Heavy power rod really be a Medium power? I seem to have heard this before but I'm not sure.
  10. Thanks for that great breakdown Nine Miler! My indecision basically stems from storage and castability. I want a longer rod that will afford me more distance on the cast but one that I could also maneuver in and around obstacles since I fish from the bank a lot. Although I like your suggestions a lot I'm thinking about getting the 7' M and MH since I can use the M for cranking, smaller spinnerbaits, lighter plastics, etc. and the MH for jigs, bigger plastics, bigger spinnerbaits, light flipping and pitching. I already have a 6'6" medium rod for shorter more accurate casts like around boat docks but I'll probably upgrade to a Bucoo soon since it was just part of a cheap but nice combo. I was also thinking about getting a flippin stick in the future but not right now since I dont have a lot of heavy cover like mats or big laydowns where I fish. Thanks for those links by the way very interesting
  11. I want to get a cranking rod and one for jigs, worms and spinnerbaits. The 7' or 6'6" medium bucoos seem good for cranking and the 7' or 6'6" medium heavy bucoos seem good for the jigs and stuff. I'm just wondering which length to get.
  12. Another package of brush hogs ;D
  13. I think what happened was that the tube jig I was fishing got wedged between two rocks and I was fishing from shore so I couldnt get it without the help of a boat which I didnt have :'(
  14. Are they more prone to hang up in rocks and where should you fish them?
  15. Yea bilgerat if I had the money right now I would totally get the President but at about $80 more than the citica I gotta wait plus I wanted to get a Bucoo
  16. Every since I got my President I have trusted pflueger reels. My only problem is that they do not offer the option of left hand retrieve in a bunch of their baitcasters. I would get the standard Patriarch but I dont have the funds right now so Im settling on the Shimano Citica. Ive sent the folks at Pflueger some emails about why they dont have left hand retrieves and they just say they arent making them right now >
  17. Thanks for all the responses I just wanted to make sure the spots I picked to fish this weekend were good ones since I cant get out that often. Im sure all your input will help a lot
  18. Ghoti I don't know about you but I just might have to call that skipping ;D
  19. Zoom finesse worm t-rigged, weightless or weightless but twitched the latter being deadly last year
  20. I know that the dropping water temps and shortening daylight triggers the rush of bass to feed on everything they see especially baitfish and I know that shad are the predominant forage and should be either close to the mouths of creeks now or should be up them somewhat already. My question is where to fish on lakes that have no big creeks and no shad? It would seem that the next best forage would be be either bluegill or perch and flats with gradually tapering points near deep water or the main channel would be the best place to look. Whats your opinion?
  21. Thanks for all the replies! I agree using a longer leader does help when you constantly retie.
  22. Last year this time I was a freshman in college and I was just learning the area and I found a little pond not to far away that became my learning ground and I didnt catch anything over a pound the first three months I fished it! It was still a lot of fun and before I knew it I was catching 2 and 3 pounders I loved that little pond but in the spring they drained it to do some work on the culvert and its basically a field now :'(
  23. I was on versus.com the other day and I saw a pro tip by larry nixon about attaching your leader to braid on spinning gear. He recommended the blood knot for attaching it but my question was how long should you make the leader? He said not to make it so long that you have to wind it through the top guide but how short can it be? Heres the link: http://www.versus.com/blogs/flw-outdoors-fishing-tip-of-the-week/linking-braid-to-flourocarbon/
  24. I like BASSclary's idea if you could put it in a three ring binder then you could turn the packages like pages but I just go with ziploc freezer bag and I organize the plastics by shape like trickworms, creature baits, craws, ribbon tail worms, etc. It seems easier to me to just grab a bag of the type of bait I need and then find the color.
  25. I caught a ton of fish with them texas rigged, weightless, as a jig trailer and cut in half for my finesse jigs and what they said watermelon and green pumpkin are your main stays anything else is your personal preference
