  1. A few years ago,my buddy and I were fishing a lake known to harbor large bass.I found a shad wiggling on top of the lake as it had been hit.I told my friend "If I could find a bait that matches that coloration I could wear them out."Answer lc dvr 10 in american shad .From this one lake I caught 20 over 7-10 lbs that year.Nuff said.
  2. This topic caught my eye as I am at home now recuperating from surgery for a melanoma on my back.Believe me, you do not want to go through this surgery.I had a spot on my back about the size of your thumb to the joint. When they operated on me,they cut under my armpit from one side to the other to remove four lymphnodes. They then cut a zig zag pattern across the width of my back after removing the tumor.I am at home now trying to get well and can't fish at all.I live in Florida and used to go for the tanned look when I first moved here.I now follow Shaw Grigsby's example and wear long sleeves a bacalava and Glacier gloves in the summer especially.Too bad I didn't start doing this years ago.
  3. Bitters bait &tackle in Longwood carries their worms.I ordered on line 100ct jggle tails(an excellent worm) in purple w/ice blue tail. They are located in Sanford off Commerce Drive.I live in Orlando and it took about three weeks to get my order.Subsequently I called and asked if I could pick them up at the warehouse and was told that would be fine.If you can get there,it will save you a lot of time.
  4. Johns lake located between Wintergarden and Clermont produces a few teens every year.
  5. I throw a Gambler big ez which is approximately the same size.I texas rig weightless with a 6/0 gamakatsu ewg.The big ez has a little better thump to it but the big dipper will work just fine.Just sayin if you like the big dipper, try the bigez in copperfield.
  6. I agree with WRB.I live and fish here in Florida in many lakes the same as you describe.Key points that were made was hard bottom and shell beds. You can find hard bottom on your depthfinder and then throw a carolina rig to detect the presence of shellbeds. He also stated where there was a weed edge which is a typical holding area or travel route in any body of water across the country. One more thing thats just a personal observation;when fishing offshore here in Florida is to key areas around 8 ft in depth.I know that sounds crazy ,but try it anyway. You might find them a couple of feet shallower or deeper, but start looking at eight feet.
  7. Guys,I'm looking for a down imaging sonar for a BassHunter boat.I'm trying to decide between a Hummingbird 570 or 345 DI or a Lowrance5x DSI unit.Theses will be used here in Fla where average depth is less than twenty feet. What are the pros and cons of each? Do you have personal experience with any of them?Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Tennsopher
  8. The Mend-It in the glass bottle works for me.I have skinny dippers that I have repaired multiple times. You can get the best deal if you buy it on e-bay.
  9. Try the 6inch weedless Huddleston deluxe in gold shiner. You can throw this bait in the thick stuff; and being from down here, you know how good wild shiners are.Tennsopher
  10. Does anyone have any idea if the hud frog has been released yet? If it has been, where can I purchase a couple from? They are listed on their website but are not in their store.Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,Tennsopher
  11. I would suggest you wear muted colors or camo, and approach the water as quietly as possible. You stated the lake was spring fed with grass in it.This tells me the water is normally clear.Try not to throw shadows on the water as you approach and keep your profile low.In regards to baits,I woud go with senkos, flukes,or unweighted worms as you say the water is not very deep.Baits with a subtle action should shine there. If you fish early in am or late evening or even after dark, try a buzzbait or a topwater you can work with a rythm.Hope this helps. 12. What is your favorite month to fish in Florida and explain why and what technique to use.
  13. What kind, and where can I get a pair of those gloves you wear for sun protection.
  14. Try a hags tornado in 8in.It has a hollow air pocket molded in.Go to youtube and watch the demo.
  15. Florida strain are more adversly affected by cold fronts ie staying shutdown longer. Also, I find in the clear, weedy lakes, strong winds can silt them whereas they are normally clear shutting down the bite.I learned to fish in ky and Tn and caught alot out of stained water. That doesn't happen much here.I will agree they can be difficult anywhere.Thats why its called fishing and not catching.
  16. I once had an old guy smoke me in the early 70's on a fly and rind (a bucktail jig and pork strip).later I learned to fish a grub on a jighead. This bait will catch any gamefish swimming.
  17. Just my .02 cents.Curly, drop worm by verticle cover.Ribbon, covering horizontal structure.Paddle ,dingy water or swimming over grass and straight tail clear shallow areas or colder water conditions.
  18. Get yourself a can of Brasso in the cleaning section of the supermarket and a soft cloth.A single can should last you for years.
  19. Earlier this year,my fishing partner caught a three pounder with something sticking out of its gullet.I pulled it out and it was a partially digested baby alligator! Pretty much anything can be fair game.
  20. I started fishing regularly at the age of 11 in 1967.My dad and I lived on the Emory river in Tennessee. He died a year later and I still cherish the memories of our fishing together. Here I am 43 years later. Im still chasing those ol green fish, and am thankful to all those in Kentucky,Tennessee, and now Florida;that have taught so much and shared great times.May GOD bless them all.
  21. I would take a look at the Gblanks website. You can pick out the weight and action, length and handle style, and even wrap color with your name on rod for125.00.I own one of his crankers and would put it up against most any.I think George Welcome on here favors his rods if Im not mistaken.
  22. Go to Bass Pro Shops and get tube of Ultrathon. Its deet based and slow release works pretty well.
  23. I would suggest the uni knot .It has lots of uses and works well with fluoro.Once mastered it is easy to learn the sandiego jam knot, another good choice.
  24. I think they may be on to something.Ask Huddleston or Castaic how many bubblegum colored trout imitators they sell.It boils down to water clarity.Fish can see five times better than us in the water. Also I dont think all fish first notice a bait from directly below it.
