  1. I live here in Fla (Orlando) and yes Gambler baits are big down here.I fish these on 5/0 gammys or the owner beast hook.As far as color goes try the Copperfield or green pumpkin.I prefer the copperfield as it mimics the baitfish down here golden shiners.
  2. I was fishing with a friend of mine and he caught one about 3 and a half with a baby alligator in its mouth. It was partially digested.
  3. Two weeks ago my fishing partner and I were fishing a small lake in Orlando.A bait supplier was putting into the lake as were we.He said that the golden shiners were going for 22 dollars a dozen and the guides on Toho were snapping them up to please their clients. You can catch your own by baiting next to weed patches with oatmeal.Try several places and wait for about an hour to bring the bait into the area.Next, creep up silently with trolling motor on low setting and cast net them. The bait salesman had about two dozen poles in the water marked with flags and said we could fish by them if he was not working them.We were fishing for specks and didn't need them, but was a great offer from a very nice guy.Hope this helps you out.
  4. Merry Christmas Bobby .I couldn't have said it any better.God Bless everyone.
  5. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
  6. Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!
  7. I dip the tails of my flukes in chartreuse JJ's magic it works wonders.
  8. What are some of the particular hooks and sizes best suited to different techniques?
  9. I haven't got to bass fish since the specks started biting. My fishing partner is stocking his freezer and we have been killing them on the local lakes.I don't eat fish anymore as I had to live on them once for three months lol.I can't get him to bass fish right now but in a couple more trips I think he will have a years supply. If you are bank bound get some wild shiners and go to Wekiva Springs state park. When you enter the park take the road to the left to Sand Lake. There is a path that will take you to the lake. The water is crystal clear and full of trees so bring heavy tackle. You will need a cork float and large kahle hook.Go left once you get to the lake and fish the first opening you come to.I caught my first double digit there. My ex pulled a thirteen from same spot. This was twenty years ago but I don't think much has changed. The lake is fed by an artesian well and a great place to observe bass in their natural habitat.Hope this helps.P.S.Make sure to wear polarized sunglasses you will be in for a treat.
  10. BassnBlvd said he likes producto and I do as well .They are mfg in Sanford,Fla.and have a website.Try their jiggle tail worm in black grape/ice blue tail.I have caought several 10+ fish on that particuler worm. Also MCS I too like the Bitters products in particuler their naked swimmer in green pumpkin or watermelon red.It is a knockoff of the Reaction Innovations skinny dipper. We went through about twenty packs of these last spring on a weed filled lake here in central Fla.Two packs of five for five bucks is great pricing on all of their plastics.
  11. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.May you catch the fish of your dreams this year.God bless all.
  12. I have one and haven't really fished it enough to have an opinion on its effectiveness. It is a well made bait though as are all Megabass products.I will try it out again after seeing your post and if I do any good, will let you know.
  13. Traditional style worms Culprit in black,Zetabait gillrakers in black/red flake and Producto jiggle tails dark purple/ice blue tail.Specialty worms, senkos in watermelon red and watermelon black flake.Zoom trick worms same colors and sluggos in Arkansas shiner color.
  14. You said the pond is only 10' deep.I would try a tiny torpedo in frog color and a senko.Fish the torpedo with slight twitches of your rod tip followed by a lengthy pause. If that doesn't work speed up your retrieve.I have had good luck with these two baits in ponds.
  15. I agree with Matt on this one,the Basstrix was the original and when introduced, were difficult to obtain. Why,because they flat out catch fish.I fish them with Owner keel weighted hooks with the centering pin.Slow retrieve.
  16. Davis Bait Co.shaky worm green pumpkin/lime
  17. The Green Weenie
  18. Years ago I had a friend that I fished with that taught me to jig fish. This was done with a saltwater blank 14foot long and the guides were hand wound on it with a coathanger bent into a figure eight to hold extra line.He made his own jigs and put teddy bear eyes from a hobby store on them with super glue.Sometimes he painted these flourescent orange. He would put the jig in a vise and slightly flatten the head before applying the eyes and then would glue rubber bands on the head to look like the feelers on a crawdad. He also did this with spinnerbaits minus the feelers. The the jigs were colored with a magic marker then dipped in polyurethane to dry.Was it the eyes?I don't know, but he was the most successful big bass angler I ever met while stationed at Ft.Knox,Ky.
  19. I have a G-Blanks ISB843 with a Shimano stradic4000 mounted on it. The rod has 9 guides and is rated 5/16-3/4 oz baits10-17 lb line.I am running 30# braid on it with no problem.Cost around 140.00 dollars for rod.Give Larry Mitchell a call at 918-231-5696 and tell him what you are looking for .You can have your name put on the blank (rainshadow)for free.I have three G-BLANKS and they are sweet rods.P.S.tell him Wayne from Florida says hello.
  20. I bought an MGX this past year and so far no problems.Mine is mounted on a Kistler helium lta med/heavy 6'6" and it is super light.I have caught fish to 10lbs on it.No problems.
  21. I fish spinning rod reeling with my left ,rod in right hand.Baitcasting just the opposite, reel with right, cast with right. When I pitch or flip though,I use a TDZ 105HL which is a left handed reel. The reason for this is reaction time to a strike. It's not that hard to get used to and you will find your pitches to be more accurate.
  22. I have caught many large fish on culprit worms. They are made here in Fla.and I know a lot of guys that swearby them and will throw nothing else. That being said,a lot of worm fishing includes many variables i.e.length,color,tail action, weight, buoancy, and hook size used.I have been fishing worms since the late 60's when the creme worms had three exposed hooks and a harness and were the hot bait.Point being, find what works for you and when it gets slow don't be afraid to experiment.
  23. Traveler thanks for the link.I used to have Buck Perry's book spoonplugging but have since lost it I still have my spoonplugs though.
  24. Make sure you view the cd that comes with the unit.I researched the web before I bought mine and called Hummingbird and asked about the resolution problem in shallow water.I live in Fla and most of our lakes are shallow.I was assured there was no problem.I then went to Bass Pro and asked the saleman if they had many units returned and was told no.The major buying point for me was I wanted a portable unit. When I first got it I halfheartedly glanced over the cd and found out Icould not go into simulator mode. After my first trip out,I came back ,hooked up the transducer, and set by carefully paying attention to instructions. The setup will remain unless you manually change them.I normally run mine in switchfire mode as downscan is best when you are moving as it cuts horizontal slices in the water to create a picture whereas in regular mode you get more of a circular viewof 1/3 the depth. What I 'm trying to say is read the cd as you set it up and you should be happy with the results.Good fishing
