  1. I was just wondering whats everyone technique for fishing the Smithwick Devils Horse, or any prop bait. I have tried the Heddons and the Devils Horse and have yet to get any strikes. I know a lot of people who swear by prop baits. I just kind of rip it like a jerk bait. What kind of retrieve does everyone use?
  2. Hello, my name is Ryne and im a tackleaholic
  3. Bomber Model A in bengal firetiger color, or a DT16 in Bluegill color.
  4. I have tried all different brands of poppers but the Rebel Pop R is by best producer. I have caught fish on other more expensive poppers, but the first popper out of the box is always a Rebel. But, its all about confidence.
  5. I know its a top producer for a lot of anglers, but i can honestly say i have never caught a fish on a black/blue color scheme. I throw it a lot, and have yet to have any luck. I have been in the boat with people hammering fish on that color, but its bad luck for me I think.
  6. War Eagle
  7. I wade a small river for smallies. I use a Pro Lite Finesse baitcaster matched with a Pro Lite Finesse 7 foot rod. For line i use 20 lb power pro. I also carry either a fly rod or Ultra Light with me, i like to throw grubs on jig heads and small poppers that the baitcaster cant cast.
  8. I recently bought a Wright & McGill Skeet Reese rod for throwing swim jigs and finesse spinnerbaits. I didnt have any interest in this rod since it is yellow. But after handling the rod, it had everything i wanted in a swim jig rod. It is 6 foot 8 inches, has a solid backbone and a very fast tip, extremely light, and a lifetime warranty. Im pretty sure i will even do some small plastics texas rigging with this rod also.
  9. The oval split ring is on all new Strike King hard baits. I bought several SK cranks and they all had the oval split ring. I have no idea what, if any, difference this makes.
  10. my guess would be 4 or 4 and a half
  11. I had the bait monkey tamed for awhile. Then i went to Wal Mart and saw they have Abu Garcia Revo S's on sale for $70. I picked one up, then went back a few days later and picked up two more. Bass Pro and most tackle outlets have them priced at $129, so i wasnt going to pass up this deal .The bad news is i had to buy rods for the reels.
  12. 1. I have a 2004 GTO with a twin turbo set up putting down 642 horsepower to the rear wheels that i love to hit the track with. It became a very expensive habit so i usually only make a few passes. I like to cruise it a lot. 2. I bought a M&P 15-22 rifle this year and got into squirrel hunting. 3. i love to shoot clays, paper targets, or anything that blows up. Something about ripping off a whole magazine of a 9mm that just gets me excited.
  13. Id have to say fishing a football head type jig. I have had minimal success and I seem to snag them a lot. I usually lose one in the first 5 casts and give up on it. I use swim jigs a lot and thats my favorite way to fish.
  14. I also hit that sale before heading to Bass Pro. Bought a Rapala DT, 2 bags of Chompers skirted twin tail grubs, and 2 bags of strike king tubes for $11.50.
  15. I throw a wake bait whenever I see cover that is a little under the surface. I also like throwing this late morning on spawning flats if i dont have luck with a buzz bait.
  16. The flying lure. I was only 8 or so but it was junk. I would also say the Banjo Minnow. But i ound the kit last year and tried it out and actually caught a few fish. I was too young to know what i was doing when i first had it. I'v had a few off brand cranks that just spun around in the water, not dive characteristics at all. I bought a Spro BBZ1 shad this year and have a bad feeling that will end up in my pile of baits i regret buying. I hope not.
  17. I use the Zoom Trick Worm for fishing finesse plastics. I like the War Eagle Finesse spinnerbait for covering water.
  18. I use a St Croix Mojo Bass 7 foot 6 inch flipping stick (a heavy action rod is a must) with a Revo S and 50 lb Power Pro. I have caught several 8 lb largemouth on this set up, while also dragging in 10 + lbs of vegetation. If you're fishing areas with lots of vegetation I suggest you use braided line. The strength is good, but for me the major advantage is its ability to float atop the vegetation. Whereas mono will sink and get more tangled up in the vegetation.
  19. My lizard collection has officially gotten out of hand. I told my friend 2 years ago that if i say " I need more lizards" or try to buy any, to punch me. Well, since then i have bought at least 20 bags. I now have two binders full of Zoom lizards. The good thing is i go through almost a bag an outing, so they do get used. I have a lot of stuff, but the only thing i should downsize is crankbaits due to the fact it is probably my least used bait. Went to Bass Pro today and that put a little dent in the wallet.
  20. I very seldom get fish on the same bait in back to back days. But if I had to hit the river with only one bait id have to flip a coin between a Yum Crawbug and a Bomber Model A in bengal firetiger color. Topwater would be a Sammy 115.
  21. War Eagle Finesse spinnerbaits are my favorite spinnerbait. They are perfect or what you are describing. No matter how fast you reel them in they dont lay on there side.
  22. wacky rigged Senko is good idea. I seem to have good luck in small rivers in winter slow rolling a white spinnerbait with a colorado blade. Minnows on a slip float would be something to try. A simple grub on a jig head also works well. I have success on quite a bit of baits during winter, but whatever one i use i make sure i work it SLOW.
  23. Was on a fishing trip a few years ago with some guys from work. I had just purchased a Bass Tracker and was excited to take it out on a big reservioir for the first time (i usually just fish small strip mines). We get there on a Friday afternoon and just shore fished for a few hours. That night we all went out to dinner and i got really really drunk. I get up the next day and I have a hangover for the record books. We launch the boat and motor to the spot around 2.5 to 3 miles away. I take out my rods and start throwing my spinnerbait. I wanted to tie on a different color, only to realize all my tackle was in the hotel room (30 min away). Luckily i had a few things in the boat. We go to leave and motor about 30 feet and motor shut off. Ran out of gas. Started to troll and the battery died after about 10 min. Only had one oar in the boat, so there I am rowing a boat in 100 plus degree temperatures with a hangover. Finallly my buddy flagged down a boat and he thankfully towed us in. Now i have two trolling motor batterys in the boat and never leave the ramp without a full tank. I had a friend forget the cooler of beer on the dock :'(
  24. I think its funny that everyones making a big deal of this "new hot bait." I had a younger kid 18-20 telling how KVD won the classic on a gold Red Eye and how hes gonna buy some because its a new thing and all. I remember 20 years ago when i was 7, that my dad finally let me use one of his lures in a river that was full of snags. I picked up a gold rattle trap. I caught hundreds of cats, smallies, white bass, and stripers on that bait. I still use it to this day and I still get wierd "you're throwing a gold rattle trap" type looks.
