  1. You have a Kimber and a Les Baer? Your wife and accountant must love you, Lol. Get yourself a Wilson Combat to put the cherry on top. Beautiful 1911.
  2. I dont have any trout waters near me, but i suggest you get yourself a 3 Wt fly rod and some spider flies and fish for bluegills. It is a blast. If you have smallmouth creeks or small rivers in your area, you will have a blast with that fly rod. I have caught a lot of bass on a fly rod also. There are days when a popper type fly in the scarce weeds will out fish any regular bait i have. I have Hobbs Creek combos and they are a great combo for the price. I tie my own spiders amd dahlberg divers, both are very easy to tie and will catch most things that swim.
  3. i bought an AK 47 last year and it came with a buayonet. I had no idea what to do with the knife, so now i put it in my boat when im on it or in my pocket when im shore fishing. I have yet to use it, but id rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
  4. anyone but Martens. He always seems to be a cry baby. I know that he is arguably the 2nd best bass fisherman in the world, but he just comes off as a cry baby. He compains about pleasure boaters, and fishermen fishing by his spot. I am an Ike fan, i like Skeet but he hasnt had a good year.
  5. I recieved my Gen 3 Revo S today and had a chance to fish it right away. This reel is on par with my Premier and i only paid $101 for this Revo S. I have a Curado, and quite frankly, this new Revo is far superior to the Curado for less money. It seems like these new Revo S's already have quite the following. It almost seems like a swift kick to Shimano. Shimano will always be Shimano due to there loyal users. But do you think Abu closed the gap a little bit as "the best reel maker in the world." I understand that it takes time for this gen 3 Revo S to show its true colors, but so far i am beyond impressed.
  6. those are monsters. Are you hillbilly handfishing or rod and reel? Either way, it has to be an adrenaline rush.
  7. Great post. I always try to explain casting angles to my fishing buddy. I learned a lot about casting angles fishing small creeks for smallmouth.
  8. When i heard the 2 illinois lakes i was dumbfounded. Shelbyville is a good fishery, im definately interested to see how they pick it apart. But i could not believe they picked Lake Decatur. We call it "the big mud puddle." Still going to be interested on how the pros fish it. I have fished shelbyville a lot, and cant wait to see KVD fish my favorite illinois lake.
  9. i personally have never had a single issue with any of my 11 Revos. But my buddy has a Gen2 STX and its all messed up. He bought it for cheap on EBAY so i think it was broke when the guy sold it to him. It never worked from the get go. I guess its all about luck. Before a Shimano guy chimes in and says get a Shimano and you will have no problems. I had a Shimano Curado and after about 10 casts the thing stopped casting further than 5 feet. The spool would just stop. I returned it and got a Revo S. I know Shimano makes a great reel, but reels are just like cars. One person can buy a 2012 Corvette and have no problems whatsover. The next guy can buy a 2012 Corvette and the electrical systems flawed or the starters messed up. Its just all about luck. If i would have been given a different Curado i would pry be a Shimano guy.
  10. I couldnt agree more with this comment. If you want to have a nice fight fishing bluegill, get yourself a 3 WT fly rod and some foam spider topwaters. They attack it with amazing aggression. There are times when 5+ fish attack my spider at once. I always keep the fly rod in my boat while bass fishing. When i see gills up in the vegetation ill take it out and have a blast.
  11. nice fish, but thats on helluva swimbait stick you got there. May i ask what brand? or custom?
  12. rage craw and paca craw. If you throw swimjigs i suggest the new Rage Menace. Also use a zoom grub and rage craw as swim jig trailers. But after using the Menace, thats pretty much all iv been using lately.
  13. I dont know your budget. But you can get a Abu Garcia Black Max for $60 and a Abu Garcia Vendetta rod for $80. Thats a decent budget minded combo to me. If you want to go spinning. Bass Pro sells a Shimano Sienna for $30. It is a great reel for the price. Bass Pro also has there XPS line of spinning rods for $99 that are nice. I have heard Berkley Lightning rods are good rods for the price, but the only one i have seen use in person snapped on a hookset.
  14. the Strike King Hack Attack jig, hands down. I make my own jigs and have a few dozen Northstars, but i still prefer my Hack Attack jigs over all my other jigs. It has a great head for going through cover and the hook they use is a beast. I have yet to try the Hack Attack swim jig, but the original Hack Attack is the real deal. I use it every way possible, iv punched through vegetation, flipped laydowns and docks, swim through lilly pads, crawled over rocks all with the same exact jig.
  15. i use my crankbait rod on occasion to throw swimbaits. But most of the time i use my Skeet swimbait rod. If the swimbait im throwing gets over 1.5 ounces, i use my Veritas flipping stick with 50lb power pro.
  16. You need to get it. A buddy of mine just got one and i put 100 rounds through it. Great gun.
  17. Where are you getting them bad boys at? I got into some nice stripers at LaSalle yesterday. Had to cut the day short though, the Merc refused to start.
  18. get yourself a dozen or so tear drop ice jigs in "glow" color. Then google Maki Plastics and get yourself A LOT of the original Maki in white, pink, and chart. Drop it to the bottom, then slowly jig it. After a few minutes, reel a few cranks and jig it. Do that until you work it back to the hole. It catches everything that swims. Bluegills love them, but i have caught many bass, catfish, crappie and walleye on this tactic.
  19. a redeye is always a solid fall bait for me, and a great search bait that will help you cover a lot of water quickly.
  20. id say its all good. But you didnt have a new Revo in your order, or a Gen 2 revo on sale. Also should have got a few weedless Hudds.
  21. i pry fish every month of the year except for December. The ice isnt thick enough but still too cold to get out on the boat. Also dont want to tow the boat when there is salt on the roads. Then once the ice gets thick, i pull them through the ice and enjoy every minute of it. Last year though, we had a mild winter and only got on the ice once, and that ice was only 3 inches thick.
  22. nice pics. I love tackle porn. I just cant wait to play with mine. Its gonna be a loooooong 2 weeks
  23. One outing i was having trouble catching fish. I was just messing around and attached a frog on a buzzbait. Nothing. Then i attached a 4 inch swimbait to the buzzbait it caught fish. I dont do much buzzbaiting anymore, but ill try that swimbait/buzzbait combo every once in awhile.
  24. throw those chigger craws away and get some Rage Craws. I used to be a Chigger Craw guy, then the Rage craw took over. I dont think i own a single chigger craw anymore. Sometimes when they want a more subtle trailer, ill use a Paca Craw.
  25. As stated above, use what you are comfortable with. I carry a .40 semi auto. When i dont want to wear a holster, i carry a S & W Bodyguard in a pocket. Its a small 5 shot revolver in the .38 +P round. It has a laser that came on it from the factory. It is a rough shooting gun and about as uncomfortable as you can get. But in time of panic, i wont care about how nice it is to shoot. I know guys who carry full size 1911s with a full magazine. Thats a little to large and heavy for me. A good holster is gonna help you with comfortability.
