  1. Thanks, i will try that out. I dont mind the noise at all. But my fishing buddy (who is also a abu garcia guy) always gives me a hard time when i start casting the gen 3 because its so much louder than my gen 1's and 2's
  2. biggest surprise: not a bait, but i fell in love with my Rage rod. dissapointment: by far its been Roboworms. I stocked up last winter. I havent even caught a single fish on them. I rigged one up on a drop shot for my wife and she catches them. Its just one of those baits that catch fish, as long as im not using them.
  3. the new revo can cast very very far without any backlash. You will not be dissapointed. You will be dissapointed if you dont like loud reels. This thing sounds like a fighter jet when you give it a good cast. I ordered the carbon handle and EVA knobs, and bocca bearings for my gen 3. Its going to be one bad **** reel.
  4. reel: Abu Garcia MGX rod: *** *** black 7' 6" medium heavy soft plastics: falcon craw rage craws hard bait: Bucca Bull shad swimbait wire: Revenge spinnerbait double gold colorado blades in bluegill color
  5. sometimes you just have to put someone in there place and speak the truth.
  6. When we fish wisconsin we always hook into a musky or northern while bass fishing, so thats not even a bonus anymore. A couple years ago i went down to the Illinois river after work and was working a rage craw around a rocky point for smallies. Ended up catching a 22 lb flat head catfish. I didnt get a picture as i was by myself and didnt have a camera. It was fun though.
  7. Your from Cali, that dont count. LOL. Your small bass are our big bass here in Illinois.
  8. In this situation, the only gun i would want would be a rifle. I am an OK pistol shot, but with a family member in the room and under stress. I would not want a pistol. I wouldnt even want a shotgun unless i had slugs. Not many people like rifles for home defense, but its accurate and you can engage multiple targets without losing focus.
  9. i have tried this many times. Have had some success on lakes for largemouth and in small streams for smallmouth. The downside is, every little panfish in the area will hit your crawler before any bass will get a chance at it. You might have to go through 3 dozen crawlers to get a decent bass. I have found that if your going after bass with live bait. A live crawfish, big shiner, or live bluegill are your best bet. Like i said, i have had success, but the bluegills and rock bass will hit your crawler more often than bass.
  10. I have a Rage rod also. Its a 6-8 or 6-6. I cant remember. Its a medium action and i love it so far. I have only had it out 5 times. I have it paired with a Revo Premier and its a real light setup. I like to throw swim jigs and 5 inch swimbaits with it and its perfect for that. I had heard tons of bad reviews and people bad mouthing it, so i had no intentions of purchasing one. But my local marina had 1 left and it was on sale for $80. I had to take a chance at the price.
  11. i am a fan of the space monkey as well. I use it more as a swimming type bait. I like to put it on a keel weighted hook and swim it around vegetation. I do the same thing with the smokin rooster. I have also had good success using the monkey as a topwater bait. I rig it with a 5/0 EWG hook and swim it across the top like you would a buzzbait. Some of my best fish have come when i kill it. Ill swim it across the vegetation and then when i get to a open pocket i will kill it and let it slowly flutter down. Drives them crazy.
  12. i had my mind dead set on a nitro, then a used Ranger became available at a deal i couldnt pass up.
  13. beautiful Nitro. I have always loved that red/ black on white. I always go to BPS site and go to the "build your own" nitro and experiment with colors. Its a lot of fun.
  14. i like to use a fluke with chatterbaits. I have been experimenting with the Rage Tail menace that i love on a swim jig.
  15. I have had my gen 3 Revo S since they came out. On my first 5 outings i absoluletly loved it. It was on par with my Revo Premier with Bocca bearings. On the 6th outing i started to get a clicking noise on the retrieve. I was very upset. I came home and took the whole thing down to the skeleton. THe bearings were loaded with grease and the whole inside had more grease on it than any other reel i have ever opened. I cleaned the grease off of everthing. Greased the gears and oiled the bearings. I have over 10 outings on it since and its running like a champ. It casted like a rocket before, now its amazing. Even with 2 brakes on, im outcasting all my other reels.
  16. Listen to Cadman, he knows his stuff.
  17. i ice fish in a t shirt. I have a 1 man flip over shanty and a mr buddy heater. Im as warm as i would be at home on the couch. Walking on ice is still somewhat scary to me. I have been on some very very scary ice before, it is not fun. When it gets over 8 inches thick though, i feel more than safe. When the ice starts to melt, the bank melts first. I have seen guys take a small boat, or put a ladder on shore and the other end on the ice to get out on the safe ice. Im not that hardcore.
  18. 1. a boat, 14 rods and reels, A LOT of baits, 2 GPS and Down imaging units, pliers, braid scissors, terminal tackle like weights, hooks, a small cooler, a camera, life vests, rain gear, sunglasses, sunscreen, spare prop, spare trolling motor prop. 2. I keep it all in my boat in storage compartments 3. 1 coke, 4 bottles of water, a sandwich and a small bag of chips and i always have teriyaki beef jerky 4. 1 5. without having it in my boat, yes.
  19. never argue with a fool.
  20. Wimp? what are you scared of?
  21. Im assuming ice fishing isnt your cup of tea? Being on the ice helps me deal with cabin fever. Actually i enjoy ice fishing just as much as open water fishing. I laugh when people brag about 5+ lb bass they caught on a flipping stick with 50lb braid. Try catching a 3+ lb bass or catfish on a 17 inch UL ice rod with 2lb test fluoro, now thats fun. Pulling your hut and gear through 2 foot snow drifts isnt fun though.
  22. There is a pic in the "show your ride" section. You have already seen it, you gave me a Ranger salute. lol
  23. get a new Revo, u will not be dissapointed.
  24. As the title says, who out there is getting excited for ice season? Having only gotten out once last year due to unsafe ice, im hoping this winter i can get out a couple dozen times. Went and got my Frabil out of storage this afternoon, checking all my propane tanks and jigs. I know its kind of premature, but sitting in my Frabil is just as fun as casting off my Ranger. I can also do a lot more 12 oz curls in my hut over my ranger.
