  1. wow, nice hog. How do you like your *** Black? It was between that and the Recon, i went with the Recon. But still might get an *** during TWs sale next year.
  2. i have lucked out here and there with ammo. I went out shooting yesterday, but i didnt shoot as much as i normally would. I didnt wan to run through all my ammo and then have none when warm weather comes. My brother in law scored 2000 .223 rds and 1000 .308 rds the other day. I know the owners of all the gun shops near me, they say the police are buying all the .223 ammo. Also talked to the managers at sporting goods stores and they say it is mostly cops buying the .223s.
  3. real nice setup. I like how your console unit is right in your face an not off to the side. Definately different from the norm. Congrats.
  4. Really? I have to own a Lews TP then. My gen 2 Premier that is super tuned and upgraded Abec 7 bearings isnt that much smoother than my bone stock Lexa. Is the TP a smoother caster than the Lexa? Thats where i feel the Lexa shines compared to the Revo Ss. The TP must be a great reel for someone to say the Lexa isnt in the same league.
  5. 1/4oz Brovarney swim jig in crappie color with a pearly rage tail Menace trailer. Before the Menace i would use a a pearl Fat albert. I make jigs, buy all kinds of jigs, but that single jig is a bass magnet. I purchased it 4 years ago, it has 237 recorded bass caught on it.
  6. i always laugh when people say fishing is relaxing. I understand your struggles. Its always something. Whenever i am dealing with problems, i think of how easy it was when i had a battery, trolling motor, john boat, a spinning combo and baitcast combo and 2 small plano boxes. Some of my best fishing is done when im in my kayak with 1 combo and 1 plano box. But i always have to take things to the extreme.
  7. let me know how that Helios is. I have been eyeing that up for awhile. I have my next reel narrowed down to a Helios or Patriarch
  8. havent tried it with the head, but the biffle bug is my favorite c-rig bait
  9. good luck in your venture. I hope everything works out. I just cant wait to see this thing
  10. beautiful rig. If my bank would give me the funds, i would have one.
  11. im buying stock in Dobyns, Shimano and St. Croix. this thread alone, they have thousands in sales. lol. heres mine -Gen 3 SX paired with a Phenix recon -Daiwa Lexa 100 with a 7-4 heavy Rage rod (awesome setup) -Pflueger President with a BPS Carbonlite
  12. bummer. I hope some of the other Lexa owners jump in. We are few, but i have yet to see anyone who owned one not like it. DarrenM was one of the first on here to write a report. I talked to him and he told me it was a great reel. Im glad i took his advice.
  13. i cant "like" this comment enough. I have a spare Revo S spool for my Revo S's, but i have yet to need it or use it. If i get a nasty backlash, i just put that combo back in the rod storage and deal with it at a later date. I have 2 spinning combos, and i have a spare spool for each. Both main spools are fluoro, and the spares have braid and mono. I switch them frequently.
  14. I have it on a 7-4 heavy Rage rod with 15lb Seaguar red label. So it is used for heavier presentations. But i know for a fact there are a few guys on here who use it as a finesse setup. I have never fished a Lews so i cant compare. But im pretty sure that you would not be dissapointed. Like i said, i went into it wanting to hate it (im an abu guy) and i am so impressed that i will be working on switching my S's to Lexas. If you get one and dont like it, i would be willing to give you $100 as long as its a right hand reel and you ship it for free. Or work on a trade with one of my Gen 1 revo Ss
  15. dont hesitate. I love mine. I have all Abus, a curado (recently sold). I would trade in all my Revo Ss for Lexas if i could. My favorite reel is my Gen 2 Premier, followed by my MGX, then the Lexa. It is my first Daiwa, so maybe im just blinded by the name. But i went into it trying to find anything wrong with it. I would go as far as saying if it wasnt for the weight difference, i would prefer it over the MGX. It is one of the smoothest casting reels i have ever had the pleasure of using. I put a carbon fiber handle on it with EVA foam knobs and put it on a Rage rod. It is a combo that is very very fun to fish. Looks awesome too.
  16. unfortunately i had to buy a stainless steel prop for my outboard,2 new rear tires on my truck, and 2 new tires for my trailer. My truck had the "check engine" light on so i took it to my local dealership. Tranny is shot. Theyre installing a rebuilt one with a 3 year warranty for $2,800. Im at the point where im just trying to keep everything working. lol
  17. our county has actually been in talks with opening up a few days a year and have legal firearm owners go out and shoot them with shotguns. During summer months theyre pretty easy to sneak up on. You will be trolling an theyre all around you. They travel in massives schools (hundreds/thousands). So you could easily just shoot some bird shot into the school and kill several. Seems dangerous, but theres guys out there now trying to shoot them out of the air with arrows. It is actually funny, some of the things you see. Pry the most comical was 4 foreign men in a 10 foot jon boat, all with HUGE musky nets. They would just drive the shore line with there 9.9 and waiting for the carp to jump. They came by us and asked us to keep them some if he caught any. We ended up giving them 3 asian carp. I have heard of guys selling them to bucket fisherman for $5 a piece. I have eaten them before, and they are really good eating.
  18. this is my philosophy. Although if im on a fishing trip where i have driven many hours. I will just find sheltered areas and stay as close to the ramp as i feel comfortale.
  19. i got myself one for christmas. Havent had a chance to really work it out for a full season. But i have taken it to a local small river to test out some homemade spinnerbaits and test the reel. Reel is very light and smooth. I didnt have any problem with backlashes. Havent tested out the drag yet. But well see how it does during a full season.
  20. all you do is cut a small piece, instead of putting the hook through the opening in the tube, put the point of the hook through both sides. Basically just thread the palstic on there. To better explain it. Cut a small piece, put the point of the hook on the middle of the side of the tube. Then push through until you come out the other side. Simple
  21. hahaha, i was thinking the same thing. Nice peacock. Catching a peacock is on my fishing bucket list. Preferably in the amazon on a big wood topwater, but realistically i feel florida is a reasonable dream. Is the fight comparable to a smallie?
  22. swimbait gear and his beard alone weigh 225. So you better be under 150.
  23. Seaguar Red Label is on a a few of my setups. I was thinking of switching all my batterys over to Optimas next year. Welcome aboard
