I'm a fan of the Siebert grass an punch jig in 1/4 Oz or 3/8 Oz in sweet craw pattern. With a homemade 702 craw to match. Haven't found a situation where it hasn't worked.
I was set on a new ranger, until I rode in a skeeter. Much better ride imho. You can find good deals on them. I was always a Mercury guy, but I'm loving the Yamaha it has. Good luck
Gambler burner craw, rage craw, and 702 craw. The 702 is what Bizz baits makes. I make my own, and last year they out fished my rage craws often. Not everytime.
I pack light if I know I'm making long runs. If I have to pack heavy, I put all my heavy tackle in the back. Keep my lighter stuff up front. I lose 3 mph if i pack all my tackle in the front. I love learned to pack light
Big brush hog is my favorite. The other little trick iv used to get bit is put puts punch skirt on and rig it with a Rage lobster. Other bait that has done me well is a Smokin Rooster
I never really put much thought into it. But I was on one fishing trip once and couldn't keep them off my Rico popper dressed with a feathered treble. The feather eventually fell apart and just just put an undressed hook on the back. My catch rates dropped off in a major way. Took a feather treble off a pop r and put it on the Rico and started catching fish again
I love the field mouse. I use grey and black in the small size and I have a big one in the white. I can walk it better than a frog. It's always tied on in scattered pads. I have yet to get a fish on the big one, but the small one has caught a lot.
Tubes. I have caught fish on them, but I can count them on one hand. Also, the Havoc pit boss. I've been on private ponds where they bite anything, and still have yet to catch a fish on a pit boss
I use 15 lb red label for jigs for the past 3 years. I have never had a problem. If there are pike in your area, they will slice it like a hot knife through butter though. And a non pegged tungsten without an insert will fray it.
I love it as a swim jig trailer, I have heard of guys drop shotting them anddragging it around, not necessarily vertical jigging it straight up and down. I got my arse handed to me by my back boater in a tourney by a guy who was skipping a weightless Keitech under docks.
