  1. here is my take on the plopper. I have been on fish busting schools of shad, can't keep them off a walker or popper. Still couldn't get them to hit the plopper, this has happened on several occasions. I sometimes fish private strip pits where it's fairly easy to catch fish on top. Have yet to get a blow up on the plopper. I have fished it quite often for 2 years in places where fish are active and have yet to have a single strike. I have friends and club members who smash them on it, but I just can't find success. I do have the smaller version, seems the guys I talk to throw the bigger one. It is frustrating because it looks good and should get bit, but I just have no luck with it.
  2. I would buy whatever tungsten I could find on sale, then I bough a pack of reins and didn't turn back. It's expensive, but I don't lose that many weights in a year to really hate myself for purchasing. I also fish 3 days a week on a river, so it's not like I'm not putting the weights in harms way. I waste wag more money on lures and plastics that I never use. I figure good line, tungsten weights, and TroKars are just something I have to have. If for anything, CONFIDENCE. Will that lead weight catch less fish? No idea, but I don't want to even have that cross my mind as I'm trying to win a tournament.
  3. I caught 1 smallmouth out of shelbyville about 15 years ago while crappie fishing, haven't caught any since. Haven't caught any from Kincaid either. Not saying they aren't there, I just haven't caught them. a couple more
  4. A little late, but these smallies are from the Illinois river, I stayed on them from early October to mid November. also caught a lot of largemouth. Most fish are in the 1-2 lb range. Occasionally id hook into 2.5s and 3, but they were few and far between.
  5. Sufix Elite. I have nothing negative to say about it. I don't see how anyone who uses it could not like it.
  6. IV tried a bunch, Costa 580G all the way.
  7. like the title says, do you guys and gals have a special lure that you will go to great lengths too get back from a snag? I have a Lake Fork Tackle popper in bluegill color that is on its 6th set of hooks, it looks like it's been drug behind a vehicle. I have climbed a tree, walked through muck, swam in frigid water to retrieve it. I bought 5 extras, but none of them have the same action as the original one that is beat up. If I ever lose it, I will be a sad sad man. I don't even throw it in water where pike are present.
  8. 3.5" bps tender tube with a 3/16 Oz tungsten and a 1/0 trokar tube hook. High speed reel and a loomis IMX rod. I can fish it fast and effective.
  9. I own a couple Curados, but I got to fish a few days with a couple Metaniums and they were amazing. I couldn't justify the extra price being on a budget, but man were they nice.
  10. nope, he's retired. well off, was selling everything for $1 because he had half of a garage full of bins of tackle.
  11. brand new in package S waver for $1. a local guy was on a pro staff and had back surgery and sold all of his stuff out of his garage. bins and bins of tackle. 50 pack of tubes for $1 as well.
  12. jigs and tubes. On a good day I can go through 30+ tubes. I prefer bps tender tubes so they aren't the most durable bait, but they catch fish.
  13. I say no. My Curados are smoother than my Revos with less bearings.
  14. that's what I did. bought 2, going to use one and hold on to the other too sell. I sold a used one last year for $225. it wasn't on ebay for more than 10 minutes.
  15. a Talon and Powerful trolling motor. My river fishing success got to a whole new level with a Talon.
  16. Irod genesis 2 Punch rod is a great punch rod. retail price is $149. can get it on TW for around $120 when they have sales.
  17. good reel, not sure it's worth the price tag, but for the discounted price bps was running. good deal. I had one and sold it because I was given an offer I couldn't refuse. I ended up buying two this morning at the sale. Probably sell one for a decent profit and keep one. When I had one, I didn't notice it outperformed a lot of my other reels that were a bit cheaper. My Gen 2 Premier is a better reel IMHO. The one thing it did better than any other reel I owned was throw light baits better. I could flip a tube with a 1/16oz weight no problem. Some of my other reels tend to struggle sometime throwing that small of a bait, except my ***. It is very very very light and fits into my palm perfectly. I have small hands so the Revo line just fits me better than a Curado for instance. For the price, you will not be dissapointed and will not regret the purchase. I would never pay full price for one ever again though. Full price, it gets in Metanium territory and it is nowhere near the reel of a Metanium. good luck and have fun with it.
  18. for me, it's a tube. hands down. swim it, flip it, punch it, c rig it, weightless, shakey head, jig trailer, wobble head, rage rig, jig rig and drop shot it. it always produces.
  19. tube and finesse jig have been my go to baits this fall.
  20. rage bug for flipping wood and scattered vegetation, also throw the D Bomb. When punching, I use a Gambler why not
  21. no, just the black friday sale. then after that it is the 25 days of christmas sale when you can get good deals on whatever the product is for that day.
  22. I have two tubes of megastrike, one has a strong smell and the other has no smell. I mostly just use it when I'm punching to help it slide through the mat better. the other day I was missing a bunch of fish on a tube, they were hitting fast and letting go, when I put the megastrike on they seemed to take the bait better. still missed a few, but percentage went up.
  23. bps 3.5" tender tube with a 3/16 or 5/16 reins tungsten with a 1/0 trokar tube hook
  24. you need to get yourself some swimbaits, asap
  25. I use 15lb on a few of my setups. I had to switch to tungsten with inserts because the line would fray without inserts. it frays occasionally and i make it a point to check my line often. I can't remember the last break off I had, so it's a strong line. I use conditioner and it helps with memory. I change out my line between tournaments so as its usually fresh. I get a 1,000 yds spool from TW during christmas sale an save some $$$
