  1. Clear coat is used to make things shiny or give them a nice protective coating. I used to put 3 coats of color, then like 12 coats of clear when I used to make those little CO2 dragsters (like boy scouts little derby cars, only cooler ). It just comes in a spray can like any other paint, only its clear.
  2. Man you are good! I think we're taking this thread too far off topic I looked through a few forums of people that keep 'odd fish' as pets, a few of them had bass, but I can't find any info on this. I found a bacteria that makes their mouths red, but not their eyes...
  3. ... And the initials still hold true to the 'drug' they claimed they aren't singing about! We should form a band and redo Beatles songs in the form of bass fishing.... WHO'S WITH ME!?
  4. Check out this nice cat my cousin caught the other day on the Juniata. He was using a crawfish pattern he tied himself: I've never seen a cat so dark. I might start targeting Cats with my fly rod, I bet thats an awesome fight!
  5. I think people don't recommend braid for cranking only because there is no stretch to it and you can rip the hooks out of the fishes mouth. Braid works fine for cranking as long as you don't give them the samurai sword swing! Just a nice sweep to the side is all it takes to hook a crank on braid.
  6. That's what I do too I bite the last two sections off the body and toss it on the jig. Rage Tail's craw trailers work well too, but I figure, why buy both when you can use 1 haha. Wait until you start flippin' grass with a jig and you wait a bass dart out of the grass and nail your jig before it hits bottom. There's nothing more exciting!
  7. Bacteria? The Juniata River had a big smallie kill here a few years ago because of bacteria. They would act really odd if you caught one (of course they didn't have odd eyes like you stated). ....Largemouth in the skkkyyy with diamonds..... Sorry, I love the Beatles!
  8. Geez man up and use popsicle sticks and some duct tape! Ha jk, anyway, what is the extent of the old injury? You may just be able to get away with a nice tight wrap and those little brace things you can wrap in them? I do that with my wrist sometimes (broke it snowboarding like 8 years ago and it still bothers me) I realize your ankle will be taking a lot more stress than a wrist will though...
  9. I think you have to be blunt and straight to the point to mod a forum. I think the saying "give them an inch and they take a mile" comes into play. You can't let stuff slide or hold their hand or they will expect it everytime (that would get hard to do for a lot of newbies). I try to answer everyones questions or at least point em in the right direction and let the mods handle the dirty work I've been crawling the interwebs for a really long time and I still mess up.... I've even had 2 threads deleted in the past month haha (sorry whoever killed the one day.... forgot it was sorta an advertisement)... Anyway, there will always be n00bs, some will get it right, some will never learn, just have to deal with it.
  10. I don't know how long the actual site has been around but the domain has been around since March of 1998. Ah, I miss the way the web looked in the 90's
  11. Smallies can be unpredictable at times, they don't seem to hold to patterns like largemouth can. Maybe they are holding deep and only coming into the shallows when it rains to ****** bugs. I'm not too skilled in fishing for smallies in lakes though, so I could be way off!
  12. That's a dead fish.... Ah man that was a bad joke... I'm gonna agree with J Francho's last post and say it was a small pike or muskie.
  13. Hey thanks! I'll let you know if I bring down old blue (the boat). I have too many lakes on my 'list of lakes to fish'... Better get started!
  14. The deal is: the snap is not ever going to eliminate the need to check/cut and retie oftlenly, that 's something you have to do with the snap or without it, if you don 't do it don 't be surprised you loose lures and fish out of pure laziness, nobody or nothing forces you to do it, checking/cutting and retying is a matter of procedure. Your right, but if you're tying directly on, and you forget stuff all the time like I do, you at least have to retie when you change lures. You may not understand because I forget things in a snap Maybe your memory is better than mine
  15. I used snaps for a long time, but just recently quit using them because I heard it's better to tie straight on... I saved a lot of line using a snap I guess it's better to tie directly on too because then it forces you to check your line and retie!
  16. Does Redman have that huge billboard sign up on the hill? I remember passing a lake on the way to Baltimore and seeing that. I think it would be that one because it's right on the Interstate from what I can see via google maps...
  17. Man, those things fight harder than smallies! You must have a super huge finger!
  18. Decent little fish from what I can see I need to take a trip to York too, Williams and Redman look like they would be worth the trip (about 2 hours for me).
  19. Fishing deep is just the same as fishing shallow, just takes longer to hit bottom Look for weeds, grass, rocks, humps, depressions in the bottom.... Anything out of the normal 'flow' of the bottom. It takes a few trips to get used to the images you're seeing but grass and weeds normally look like small, but very tall spikes, rocky or hard bottoms will usually look solid, and muddy or sandy bottoms tend to look like the sonar is picking objects up past the bottom (like you'll see holes under the bottom line... hard to explain, but I think when you see it, you'll know what I mean). Creek channels and there walls are probably my number 1 place to catch deeper fish. They are like transitional highways for bass. Get yourself some cranks that run a foot or so deeper than the water your fishing so you can dig up the bottom. Or, get a crank that will run with the top of the grassline and smack into the tops of the grass then pause (floaters work good for this). Also, most Texas rigged or Carolina rigged plastics will work. If you throw weightless plastics, give yourself a LOOOOOONG time to hit bottom. I've sat for 30 seconds to 1 minute in 20 ft. of water until my lure hit bottom. Patience is key!
  20. There is nothing like catching a jig fish because you know that most of the time it's going to be a good one! Great story! I love jig fishing for smallies, there's no missing a smallie strike because they are so darn aggressive haha.
  21. Ah, cool. Good luck in your venture. I have nothing of value to add so I'm gonna go post somewhere else now Let me know how you do because I have been thinking about a trip myself!
  22. $52 for an out of state license?! Is that for the entire year? Don't they have like 3 day options? When I go to Delaware to fish the salt, I just get a week license. I'd love to fish the Potomac also, but I don't think my little vessel would survive...
  23. HAHA Bassn Blvd that's awesome. I usually do the opposite and forget to unhook the wench and wonder why the boat isn't coming off the trailer! It really sucks when you do this and you are launching by yourself
  24. Ahh I do that sometimes too. Just last week something grabbed my jig and the drag was screaming. I just started reeling like an idiot and didn't set the hook. I think it was a pike though because the trailer was cut in half and the jig head had a scrape in it. Id love to catch a pike but I'm glad it wasn't a lost bass haha Bigfruits, you have a point. The crank was green with black stripes (typical lmb colors). I guess it would work because of all those crazy colors that don't resemble fish haha
  25. Man I do that a lot too. I at least catch it before I throw though
