  1. I think I'll just buy a new reel. This was my cheap reel (it's my bill dance select quantum combo). Id probably have more money in the repair then the reel is worth. I think I can get one for around 30 dollars now. DVT is what I said true? Ha ha If not I'll be sending this to you its a quantum DS301CX. Quantum told me it's almost identical to the old Tempos. I think it's the 2007 model (pretty sure they made some changes to that model in 2009).
  2. ok heres what I did: Took my handle off my baitcaster, removed the drag adjustment then I stopped because I didn't feel comfortable trying to grease my reel before a big trip. I put it all back together the way it came out (i laid it out as I disassembled). I put a small amount of oil (I'm talking maybe a pinhead drop) into both sides of the spool. I cranked a few times to work the oil in. I also put a drop in the clutch. Now the reel feels fine, but when I cast toward the end of the cast the reel slows. I really have to throw to get a decent cast. It's odd though because when I crank or let the bait fall under it's own weight the spool seems fine. Its almost like magnetic brakes are on lock down... I have to set the brake adjustment to 1 to get a decent cast with no resistance. Could I have moved something and put the brakes on overdrive?
  3. Yeah that's a neat machine! We will see how far I get into this before I worry about mass production ha ha I highly doubt I'll ever need to make anywhere near 100 I just noticed I have been spelling curving instead of carving... Thanks for looking out for me guys (no one said a word ) seriously though, thanks for all the help everyone!
  4. Hey if you want to get rid of some of those, I'll buy some I had a few and they worked ok. I wouldn't say it was anything that was AMAZING (like I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one) but they held their own.
  5. What color was your crank? Do they like the chartreuses and greens?
  6. Thanks for all the help! I'll get some of those syringes. Hopefully I'll get some good cranks made
  7. Hey Vodkaman I remember you from TU. My username is nfollmer over there. I ditched my soft plastics ideas for now, it's just going to cost too much to get started Hopefully someday I can start making my designs or someone will pick them up... but I digress.... I don't mind having to clean up the CNC marks after it's cut. Trust me, if you saw my curving skills, you'd see why I'm doing it that way I might look into the plastic resin also, but I just want to cut a few halves to see if this is something I want to keep doing or not. Also, I like having the wood in halves because then I could add weights or rattles in different areas to experiment with placement and all that fun stuff
  8. Sorry, I meant to say Ultra V and Trondak Anyway, great info here so thanks a lot! I was thinking 2 oz would only do maybe 2 or 3 baits so thats good to hear that I could possibly get 20. I have a feelings I'll be spending a lot of money once I get started because this looks very addicting haha.
  9. This may some completely stupid because I have never done any of this before but what if you did a coat of Ultra V let that cure, then did a run of Flex coat? Maybe that would protect better from hooks ripping the bait? Maybe it's more work than what it's worth but just a thought I was just going to ask you where you got it at so thanks for answering Oh another question: Roughly how many baits can you cover with 2 oz? Just say a 2 1/2 crank to keep it simple
  10. Thanks for this info. I'll have to get a little of both and see how well I do
  11. Looks good! I never used any red spinnerbaits, I wonder how well that would work around here?
  12. Nice looking cranks! I like cedar bodies, I know some people split them, but I haven't had any issues yet
  13. I'll just be a medic for both sides. I'm young, but everyone at work calls me the 50 year old kid
  14. Yeah, I was going to use the epoxy. I used to make little CO2 dragsters in middle school (think the boy scouts pine wood derby, only with co2 tanks in them) and the epoxy just gives a nice clean finish. Looks like the Devcon 2-ton 30 minute is the way to go?
  15. Keep it simple - Get a green (Watermelon or Green Pumpkin), get a blue/black and get a brown. Don't worry about getting swirls or pinks or whites... Just keep it simple!

  17. Nice! I was thinking of just getting the spray paint for the big areas, then do the airbrushing for some things and use some tiny brushes for other things. I'll post some images once I get this stuff done. I'm actually going to model the crank bodies via a 3d modeling program then have them cut on a CNC (I know it's cheating, but I can't curve to save my life). I have some neat body designs in my head
  18. dablaw I know where you're coming from. I think people just need to make their mistakes. I know I see alot of people trying to get these people to see the industry for how it is, but most of them just won't listen. Sometimes you need to let the kid put their hand on the stove before they learn I wish everyone would be more careful though, especially since we've seen some scammers emerge!
  19. Cool thanks guys. What about using spray paint as a base (say my bait will be mostly white)? Or should I just go all airbrush? I know, I'm a cheap sob, but I got kids and they are a cash black hole ha 8-)
  20. Thanks guys, that helps alot. I hope this airbrush works ha my pap have it to me and I bet it's 30 years old. I have no problem buying one but you can't beat free!
  21. I just picture a bunch of little 5 and 6 year old kids sitting around in a PC cafe flaming each other... "Whatz your favorite fishing wod chawacter?" "Scooby Doo" "Scooby Doo sucks! Dora Wules!" I'm sure that isn't how it is, they are probably more mature than most of the adults on here
  22. I know I have seen all you painters say you can use that cheap craft paint in airbrushes, but what are you using to thin it out? I have seen on the net everything from windex to water, some say use alcohol, others said not too... Also, is it really much more cost effective to use this craft paint vs. buying airbrush paint? The stuff at Michaels was like 4.50 for a tiny bottle where I could get the same sized craft paint for 3 for 2 dollars. I guess what I'm asking there is, will the airbrush paint take less coats making the cost not all that bad? Sorry if this sounds noobish, but it is I searched and didn't find anything on the subject.
  23. What do you have? WFN is really pushing petitions on Facebook to get WFN on Directv. You can always watch Lunkerville online MyOutdoorTV has a lot of good stuff to watch too. I wish Outdoor Channel would show more fishing all the time. It's hunting 24/7 (or offroad stuff) and then even during prime fishing season, they only give it 1 night.
  24. I think it's Denali (spelling?) rods. I think he made another thread about being picked up by them.
  25. I have to agree with tommy on this one. But I'll take this a step further. I treat my 'sponsorships' (which are all field staff positions at the moment, so I don't consider them 'sponsors') like a job. I'm working for a discount for their products. If I promote their product and do well then I get a promotion, just like I would with a job. I don't expect anything free from ANY company I promote because honestly, I don't have a lot to offer them (1 measly website about fishing isn't much to offer a company). I promote the heck out of Quantum and Strike King and I'm not even affiliated with them in any way. My point is, if you make a good product, I'll promote it. If you want to give me a discount in return, I'm all for it, but if you make a junk product and want me to promote it with the promise of free stuff and all that jazz, forget it. I will agree with you dablaw that a lot of my generation feel they can just ask for stuff with nothing in return, but I'm sure every generation has their bad apples.
