  1. Congrats on your success. Be happy you don't live in Massachusetts...lead weights banned here. Hurts the wallet a lot
  2. Catching a fish on your second cast with the new technique? Very impressive. Learning new ways to fish should make you a more well-rounded angler in the future. I'm trying some new techniques myself. Congrats to you
  3. Nice trip and good fish. It's also good to see someone wearing their PDF, too many people don't even have them in the canoe/yak, let alone wearing it.
  4. The worm was probably 18" up from the weight. I just kind of tossed it out the boat, let the sinker hit bottom, kept the line fairly taut to keep the bait suspended where it should be, and lightly twitched the rod tip and inch or two up and down. I'm no dropshot expert, but at least it got me something - and nice to avoid being skunked that day.
  5. I don't have a PQ, but by accounts it's a quality reel, especially for the price. Congrats on the nice topwater fish.
  6. Everyone's going to know about the Q after you keep posting. For those outside Massachusetts, the "Q" is the Quabbin Reservoir. Good work
  7. Hey Jesse, I've seen you on the MA site (I have a different screen name there), good to have you here too. Must be nice to be 10 mins from the Q!
  8. I hit one of my local spots today, determined to become more proficient on three techniques I haven't tried to much and have never had much luck with: the C-rig, dropshot, and regular jig fishing. I did a little topwater for about a half hour early in the morning, had no luck, and then switched off between the "new" stuff (for me anyway). I successfully fought the urge to fish my normal methods. Other anglers I spoke with on the water weren't having much luck either, so I figured today's a good day to try some new techniques. Didn't have any luck for several hours, but began to feel a bit more comfortable with all three techniques after a while. Finally, I got my first dropshot fish. Keep in mind I took the photo from about 20feet away because he was so huge he wouldn't have fit in the camera screen: OK, just kidding about that last part, but it avoided the skunk. Thank you Roboworm
  9. I haven't hit this section of the site lately, and came across this thread. Here's my rig: I've had it since 2008. One of the best things I've ever bought. I don't have the vehicle needed to tow a boat and don't really need one anyway to fish most of the relatively small bodies of water around me. It's an Old Town Guide 147. It's 74 pounds and I can lift it myself and put it on the minivan, it's all in the technique and method. I added the trolling motor two years ago. It's a MinnKota 45lb thrust and there's more than enough power to move it around, even on windy days. The trick is to put some kind of weight in the bow. If I'm going solo, I put 3 25lb weights to bring the front down a bit. Believe me, I learned that from experience, before I got the trolling motor. rb56, I bought the mount for the trolling motor off Ebay for something like 25bucks. Solid as a rock, no problems and no worries about losing the motor. This year I added a Garmin 300c fishfinder. Thr transducer is mounted on the trolling motor. The fishfinder unit itself could be mounted, but I just keep it on top of the tackle bag and I'm good to go.
  10. I haven't even seen a game warden this year, but I haven't been out much and half the places I fish don't have boat ramps anyway (I'm a canoe guy).
  11. Cavitron buzzbait and Rapala Skitter Pop
  12. DSG in Worcester, MA had Terminator T-1 spinnerbaits $3 apiece, so I picked up three of them along with a few other clearance items I didn't need, walked out spending $18. Can't let them just sit there for that price.
  13. Very nice fish, congrats
  14. Congrats on your smallie success at the Q! Great smallie place, I hope to get out there later this year.
  15. If you have the length and girth measurements, input the numbers into the fish weight calculator under the "Tools" tab on the top of this website and it will give you an estimated weight
  16. It's a whole different game when you get off shore, you will love the access to spots you only dreamed about before. Tight lines
  17. Sounds like an awesome trip to me, congrats on the muskie. I've only hooked into one before and didn't get it in. You guys did well.
  18. Looks like I'm pretty tied up for the next six weekends or so. All I'll be able to do is quick local trips for now.
  19. Hit a local spot at about 5pm Friday. Weather was breezy and the water temps had gone up about 5 degrees (68ish to 73ish) from Sunday. Weather was breezy and the bite was pretty slow, only got one bass and a couple of decent pickerel until 8:30pm, when this guy nailed my black Cavitron buzzbait: 21" and my scale only said 4.2lbs, I was hoping it was more
  20. I'll be watching, I think LA is closing it out tonight. Quick is too hot right now.
  21. I have the 6'9" ML power spinning rod. It's a great rod and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. You might be able to still find them even cheaper than retail on Amazon. If you can, it's a no brainer.
  22. As my name suggests, I know that feeling very well
  23. I guess the link does work. I think they have a good amount of tournaments there, I haven't fished there in years and years, but I've never heard anything bad about the place.
