I hit one of my local spots today, determined to become more proficient on three techniques I haven't tried to much and have never had much luck with: the C-rig, dropshot, and regular jig fishing. I did a little topwater for about a half hour early in the morning, had no luck, and then switched off between the "new" stuff (for me anyway).
I successfully fought the urge to fish my normal methods. Other anglers I spoke with on the water weren't having much luck either, so I figured today's a good day to try some new techniques.
Didn't have any luck for several hours, but began to feel a bit more comfortable with all three techniques after a while.
Finally, I got my first dropshot fish. Keep in mind I took the photo from about 20feet away because he was so huge he wouldn't have fit in the camera screen:
