  1. When I started dipping in high school around '82 or '83, there weren't any published health risks on the can like there are nowadays. It was looked at as a safe alternative to cigarettes, and being a baseball player in high school, it was part of the "baseball culture". Obviously, it wasn't completely safe, anyone who puts crap in their mouth and spits it out should be able to figure out it's not a normal thing to do, but back then it was "at least you won't get lung cancer". l haven't kicked the habit completely, and wish I never started. I've only had minimal dental effects, but I encourage anyone who hasn't been dipping for that long to stop. Can't say it more plainly than that.
  2. I am doubtful. Won't know until a few days before that weekend.
  3. They were booing Bettman, not the B's. As a chronic Boston sports fan, tonight is second only to 10/27/04.
  4. Try Meadow Pond on Main St in Northbridge, off Rt 146, east of the super Walmart. There is a ton of shore access and plenty of good fish.
  5. I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'm up for getting together. Problem is, my daughter has softball tournaments (all local) the three weekends after the 4th. BUT that does not rule out me getting out real early and being off the water to get to wherever her games start. I went to Whitehall last weekend and got a few, but not much size. There are a ton of 12-14" bass in there, a lot of huge pickerel, and there have to be some monster bass in there but I have never found them. I'm hoping to get out late this Sat afternoon and then again early Sun (Father's Day) to one of my local hotspots. I've always got room in the front of my canoe, so let me know if anyone wants to get out this weekend.
  6. A little B's/Habs humor to lighten your mood...
  7. My heart says B's in 6. But if I were in Vegas, my money would say Flyers in 7.
  8. Nice call on the score, you nailed it. Keep in mind the series isn't over. Boston sports fans know about comebacks in the past (04 Sox). Tough to think the B's can come back right now though. And yes, we chant USA but also give respect to Canada.
  9. I will pick the Bruins, and hope I'm not wrong for the 39th year in a row.
  10. Good to see some fish being caught, looks like you guys had a decent day. Wish I could've been there.
  11. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be there tomorrow. I'll be watching for future get-togethers. I want to see some pics posted tomorrow night!
  12. I just picked up this thread. I would love to get down there, but it is doubtful with my kids' spring sports starting up. There is an outside shot at me getting down there early and taking off around noon. I don't have a boat, so maybe I could grab a seat if there is one available.
  13. you're right, I meant to say medium light power.
  14. Today I picked up a St. Croix Premier spinning rod, 6'6" in length, medium power, fast action. I wasn't necessarily looking for this rod, but it was priced at $79 with a free St. Croix sweatshirt thrown in so I pulled the trigger. Seems like a good deal. I don't have a dropshot rod because I really haven't experimented much with that technique. From what I've read here, this rod may not fit the bill. I was thinking of using it for smaller spinners, tubes, grubs, floating Rapalas, and other lighter weight lures. Anyone have this rod or similar? If so, what do you use it for?
  15. Welcome to the site. I'm down Rt 16 in Mendon, maybe I'll bump into you soon.
  16. I never had much luck with buzzbaits until last year, when I bought a couple Cavitrons based on recommendations I read on this site. Great bait. I never used a trailer hook and I won't start this year because I had an excellent hookup percentage last year. The hook sits lower in the water because of the bent shaft design, so I didn't use a trailer hook. I had the best results fishing it slowly, just enough to keep it on the surface and moving back to the boat. Nothing beats a good topwater bite.
  17. I bought the limit of 10 today, all T-1 models. Even found a 1 ounce model that I had never seen before, so I put that in the basket ASAP.
  18. Rods: Fenwick, St. Croix Reels: Shimano, Abu C4 Line: Seaguar, Power Pro Hard baits: Rapala, Lucky Craft Soft baits: GYCB, Zoom Storage: BPS
  19. Look for a used Citica 200D and put 10# Trilene XT on it.
  20. Cavitron 3/8 oz, black with red blades, but all the colors work.
