hi, I don't know for sure but there is a tackle shop on India Street in Portland and the owner works on reels. He might work on rods too, or know someone who does. hope he can help.

androscoggin lake is my home lake, i also like worthly pond in poland and lower range pond. winthrop lakes are great too and berry pond on 133 is ok. androscoggin has a tournament every spring, i always fished off my property right along with the big boys in the big boats and caught fish right along with them. and i was just a kid and a girl at that! lol

JOE S thanks for the most detailed and helpful reply about jig fishing i have ever read. you obviously like to fish with jigs and have inspired me to continue to practice and get better at fishing with them myself. i remember the first fish i caught with a jig, it was on the fall and it was truly exciting. i had not had much luck with jigs and had all but given up on them when i had caught that fish, and you reminded me just how much fun that was. thanks.

I would suggest two other good areas to fish, the first is the Poland Spring area including the Range ponds (upper middle and lower),and Worthley pond nearby the Range Pond State Park. Continue heading north toward the Wayne, Winthrop and Manchester area. there are awesome lakes in that area. I would strongly suggest Lake Androscoggin. I almost hate to say it, i't is my home lake, there are two particularly good spots, the cove where the boat landing is , is the best spot during pre-spawn and spawn. It is shallow and plenty of rocky areas for structure for the fish. Watch out for the loons, there is a breeding pair near the lily pads at the north west corner and the locals including myself are very protective of them. The other awesome spot is the south-western part of the lake where the Dead River outlet is. Also on the back side of Norris Island is good. Good luck and leave the big girls for me!

I'm from Portland, and I too have had a lot of guys treat me differently. the one thing I notice the most is the intrusion of my space when I'm fishing. I've had lots of guys walk right up to where I'm casting and cast to the same area or even worse across my line. The difference is I don't see that happening to other guys. I wish I could join a club too but when I've asked others about it I always get vague and evasive answers, too bad, I'm not a bad angler, and I want to learn more, why they don't want me as a member is their loss, not mine. Maybe we should start a women's fishing club, before long the guys will be begging us to join!

i would like to know if the bite was slow would he change the color of a lure or the type of lure first and why?

I love my Lady Stik, it's pink and pretty and catches fish too!

will i be able to go along with someone on a boat? i don't have one and although i don't mind fishing from the shore, driving from maine to kentucky just to watch a bunch of guys taking off in boats would be a major drag.

definitely, my first thought was to go home and change lines but it's brand new, just put it on last week and if i can solve the problem with a line treatment isn't it worth a try?

i have been having major casting problems with stren microfuse line. it seems to stick together and knot up real easily. i can undo the knots just by manually pulling the line out and then rewinding but on the next cast it does exactly the same thing. would the l+l help this problem or is there something else i should try? thanks

i don't see a lot of discussion about powell rods, but i'm planning on buying a powell max 6'8" mh/xf casting rod and putting a quantum energy 6.3:1 reel on it. can anyone offer me any feedback on my choices, and if so what line would you use? thanks

sounds like great advice, i'll try to clean the reel some and oil the bearing. i'm going to have to read up on cleaning because i've only done it once and it wasn't a reel i really cared too much about.

i'm using a shimano compre, 6'10 mh xtra-fast rod. i'll definitely try turning off the brakes,

i love my curado reel but i think i'm not getting as much from it as i can. i have power pro 40# line on it and i'm not really able to cast very far. because i fish only from the bank distance is important. what do you use for line on your curado, and what type of lure or technique do you use it for?

i live in south-central maine. this summer has been great so far. i caught my personal best a 3.3#lm. then on the next cast caught a whoppin 6.0# lm. also caught my first big smallmouth, don't know the weight but it was 13 in. long. i think my success has been because of better choices made because of what i've learned here, and out on the water.

i was fishing the lily pads yesterday with a spro frog when something hit it hard on top of a pad. of course i thought it was a bass and reeled it in. when it close enough to see it was the biggest bullfrog i'd ever seen, scared the heck out of me, i had no idea how to get a hook out of a frog but luckily when i went to grab the frog it let go and jumped away. has anyone else ever had the same experience?
