  1. 7-2 may not fit into your rod locker...just sayin' TJ
  2. I am not knowledgeable about Trackers specifically but if the system uses the hull as a ground, one bad connection to ground at either end will cause your low (or no) voltage reading. tighten ground screws AND, first, clean the metal under the screws, for better connections. there was a good suggestion to run a new set of wires directly to the 998...remember to put an inline fuse on the +12v side just before the 998. (basically 5mv to 9mv are zero) TJ
  3. I use it often on StClair. If they are all over it, braid direct to bait works well with little to no difference with a leader. If they are not biting aggressively, I use a flouro leader. I use 20lb braid which has diam of 8lb mono. TJ
  4. Myself. Especially when I'm trying to put my sons or a friend on some fish, not to impress, just so they can experience the fun of it. TJ
  5. dw: I live in Windsor, bordered by the Detroit River on 2 sides. What are the cutoff lines at each end of the river for you? south end is most important. if launching from Trenton, that is the lower end of the river. with your restrictions, that end is best anyways. you will most likely be fishing for smallies but there are some quality LM in the lower river as well. stay in touch. Tim J
  6. Guido's weedless heads are excellent for the weedless aspect as well as skipping under docks and stuff. I like the really light wts...1/32, 1/16. Hardly any lead but a light wire and decent gap along with the nice sloooowwww fall. If you're having problems getting a jig into a tube, a little spit will help, or maybe some scent to lube it up. I prefer the thick plastic (triple-dipped?) for a couple of reasons: when dragging, the tube holds up longer, and, when I poke the jig eye through, it barely sticks out of the plastic after tying, causing less grass-catching IMO. When tournament fishing, I generally have a small bag of favourite colours with jigs in the tubes but if I get onto something I don't have ready, or I run out (this happens often), I thread the tear-drop type tube heads from the front, through the eye hole. Definitely easier to change a tube if the line doesn't need retying at that moment. Might want to try this with some ragged old tubes first. TJ
  7. re: Clunn and the treble trailer. When fishing smallies with a buzz, there usually isn't much emergent to hang up on. The treble works well in that situation. you can also cut off one hook tyne and use 2/3 of the treble, both pointing somewhat upwards if it starts to get a bit messy. TJ
  8. wow! very nice results Lee. The boys and I can't wait! Tim J
  9. I can't help you with the value aspect on your bait but I do keep some old lures aside. most of them are very old baits from friends or stuff I have kept since I was a kid (they were old back then). apparently some have value but from what I have read, many old baits were produced in such great numbers that value is low. there are books and clubs around and maybe I will check into them some day. Collectibles are only as valuable as their limited numbers make them. TJ
  10. lots of good points/thoughts here. thanks to all. Adam, I don't mind lighter green, it's just that my braid lost colour in the first couple of weeks or so, to a grey/whiter colour. saw your avitar...I have fished Georgian Bay in the past (Midland, Penetang) in the old OV/Pro Bass days. how is the Waubaushene area, back near the hydro towers? and Vic harbour? TJ
  11. I can't add much to what's here...good advice. I can add that you should have a heavy stick set up with a plastic worm or your flipping/casting lure of choice. if you tear the frog away from the strike when you miss, go right back in the hole with another bait. there's a chance that you have a hot fish waiting and looking around under there. TJ
  12. beautiful fish Dwight.
  13. most days, unless we are locked onto something, I will start by throwing something different from my partner, including lure type or colour of same lure. Also, I have driven a few partners crazy because I always have a second, different lure tied on and will pick it up randomly and fish it. funny thing is, it has saved our butt more than a few times. example: we are flipping a weedline and catching bass but I throw a pop-r or buzzbait away from the weedline, and, boom, the bigger fish are on the flat. I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes I'm not sure when to change but I will let the fish tell me...with a little luck. TJ
  14. I have been using one brand of braid without problems except that it loses colour and gets "whiter". I use a green marker to colour it again but I figure I shouldn't have to. Many types of braided lines are discussed here and I'm wondering which keep their colour. I was thinking of setting up with power pro 50 or 65 and would like to know about that too. thanks Tim J
  15. Don, we can fish at iceout and onward for walleye and pike in the Detroit River, Lake StClair region. TJ
  16. anybody else read the ongoing blog each day? took a while to read it all but 1 or 2 of the bloggers talked about the wrist action that KVD was imparting to the cranks. it sounds like a pretty quick, violent snap-snap-wait every so often. by their observations, it was something that he did but wasnt seen being done by the others...I guess it was lesson 1 on being different in the pack! TJ
  17. the emcee is Dave Mercer of Facts of Fishing fame. he is a well known tournament angler here in Ontario but I don't really know the show's popularity other than here in Ontario. he's a bit off the wall but he likes to have fun on and off screen. he will be emceeing the elite series TJ
  18. it's like being Phil Mickelson with Tiger around...up until recently anyways...or being Brad Park with Bobby Orr around (hey, I'm Canadian), or anyone else with Gretzky around. nothing wrong with someone dominating. if they are good enough to be the man, they deserve everything they earn...just kind of sucks if you end up #2 often during their reign. TJ
  19. a couple more to add to the bunch: look at the slope of the immediate shoreline. if its a long taper or a sharp slope, chances are that that angle continues on somewhat underwater. if there are trees on that slope, they may be underwater as well. also, if you get some trees in the water with a definite front edge, straight or winding, they may be along an old creek. something to look for. TJ
  20. not too much on here about Toho, maybe not many fishing there lately...we are heading down in 3 weeks and just looking for signs of life! no details required...just say "yeah, we have been out and we are catching them"! I'm getting eager to go. nice weather lately but getting cold and messy again this week. thanks TJ
  21. apparently, they should sell them with a band-aid or 2 in the pack! lol
  22. for me, the 60 tends to lead the jig through grass and the 90 helps angle up the tube to pop out of rocks better...if that helps. TJ
  23. for smallies...'cause I don't fish LM as much as I used to crawfish poor boy goby tube...either regular or floating w/styrofoam insert fluke senko TJ
  24. 7' MF...only thing I would have trouble with is in-tight skipping! TJ
  25. yeah...I forgot about largemouth! the hopkins was for smallies. the johnson silver minnow in silver or black with a tail from a busted up gator tail worm...and a change up is the PT spoon. definitely fun fishing for LM. I'm with you RoLo. I'm guessing that I better have them on Toho in a few weeks. TJ
