  1. I'm a Leaf fan so what do I know? lol Vancouver should win it all...forwards to burn, the D is together right now and Luongo is all-world...as long as everyone stays healthy, D especially. out of the east, I think Pittsburgh should go since they did so well all year without Crosby and Malkin. D and Fleury and a physical front end are playing well. great playoff action to come. TJ
  2. During March Break, Lee Harrelson(fishin daddy) and Vince (warmer), took us out and my sons and I caught a bunch of fish and had a great time. They guide on Toho, close to Orlando, as well as a few other lakes not too far away. send a pm to fishin daddy for info. Good luck TJ
  3. Been reading this post. love that some of us are/were into it so much at different levels. I coached 2 different levels of ball every 2 years and 1 team in between when my sons played together...for every year from t-ball to bantam major. I wouldn't trade it for anything. whoever pointed out the parents issue, we found that at our (not all teams had them) pre-season parents meeting, the parents were told (nicely) in no uncertain terms that they could cheer as much as they wanted but they were not to coach during the game and we would appreciate it if they would not try to "untrain" something that we were trying to teach. I found that in coaching baseball and hockey, there was nothing worse for progress than teaching a player something and being undermined by the parent a few hours later because (usually dad) he did it differently. whoever is still coaching, enjoy yourselves and your time with the team because it goes by quickly. 4. During the short time each year I still fish LM, I still resort to the JSM and a PT spoon, use a gator tail from a ripped worm as a trailer...but now that Fishin Daddy has introduced me to the Booyah swimmin jig, I think a new timeshare just began! I wonder how smallies will respond to the jig... TJ
  5. my partner takes my plug (type with a closing handle) and puts it in, pointing downwards, outside the stern in my old aluminum...then wondered why water was coming into the boat. I didn't notice that my trolling motor had rotated and touched the on switch...while on high...and fell out of the boat, almost slow motion. had time to set the rod down and fall, coming back up into my hat, laughing like crazy. found a great ditch along some reeds that day! tie on a new spinnerbait and toss it into the lake...and watch the tag end disappear behind it. seems like we all have our days. good to have a sense of humour most days. TJ
  6. Ontario(Canada), Michigan and a 1-week for Florida which I happily used up in March! TJ
  7. welcome Jembo. where do you reside in S Ontario? TJ
  8. way to go Vince. very nice. TJ
  9. fish against the fish, not the competition. you have enough to worry about trying to catch fish so don't worry about the hot sticks in the other boats. also, if you practiced somewhere, where, during the event you found one of these hot sticks, go ahead and fish the water after they move on. you found it, now have the confidence to fish it. I learned this and it does wonders for your confidence when you catch fish! TJ
  10. welcome to a fellow LSC addict TJ
  11. I was born in Windsor...surrounded by Lake StClair, Detroit River and Lake Erie...guess it comes naturally. Tim J
  12. very cool everyone. hey Lee, I think I have seen that lake before... Tim J
  13. I would appreciate any input, positive or negative, on the Irod Genesis series. Any direct comparisons to other brands/models experienced would be helpful as well. Thanks Tim J
  14. still waiting for the Michigan C&R season to open April 30th... I like the xrap (gold/blk back, bone) and the pointer (gold or american shiner). I have painted an orange belly onto a gold xrap with good results for smallies. depends on clarity/sun as to how bright my colours get. contact me after the season starts and I'll let you know what's up. TJ
  15. Last week, my sons and I went out for a couple of trips with FishinDaddy, Lee, and his fellow guide Vince. The first trip was on Lake X (you'll have to ask Lee. lol) with Vince where we fished 14-16ft water with worms...something new to my boys. They ate it up! We put well over 30 fish in the boat and now have the boys asking to LM fish more often up here as we are usually SM fishing. Our second trip was on Kissimmee with a short run onto Hatch. The morning started with a flurry and I discovered a new (for me...remember the smallies...) favourite for messy water in the swim jig. Lee put me onto fish, I just failed to get them all into the boat. As the day slowed, we flipped with some success. It's been awhile since I worked hard for LM like this but I really enjoyed it. I asked a bunch of questions, all of which were answered, learning a lot about the fish that I haven't pursued much over the last 10+ yrs. Meanwhile, Vince had the boys out in different areas (we occasionally crossed paths though) and had them flipping, which they had done before but not for awhile. They caught some fish and had a couple of neat deals with nature. A baby gator decided to swim over and hang out with them for awhile. Then the kicker was that they actually had a go at a bedding 8-9lber right at days end. It picked up Corey's bait but didn't inhale and it wouldn't go again. We didn't get that big Florida dream fish but Lee and Vince worked hard to put us on some fish and the boys and I are grateful for some excellent time on the water. We had a blast. Thanks guys. TJ
  16. for ease of use, I use carolina rigs...pre-made with about a 6" wire and weight/clacker/non-clacker combos desired. I also carry some raw parts for possible situations. 2 knots and I'm in business...I used to tie 2 knots with a swivel anyways. and something I picked up from someone smarter...if you are in rocky or shell infested areas, take a piece of clear aquarium tubing (same as you may use for a trailer keeper) and slide it on the line before tying on this rig. then slide it down over the front end of the wire with about 2" still protecting your line and knot. TJ edit...bassn, I was writing while you posted. nice idea!
  17. Lund, I love that clacker in StClair though. probably because of the mix of rocks, weeds and crawfish (which make a "clicking" sound on rocks). From experience, noisy is usually better for me with the curious smallies. sorry, but not much c-rig experience with LM. TJ
  18. thanks okie. the 2 closest to kissimmee are near LkApopka. guess I might stop by up there and also get by the Harris chain and see some Elite guys too this weekend. thanks TJ
  19. is there a Dobyns retailer in central Fla (Orlando/Kissimmee/Winter Haven area)? TJ
  20. I have read many posts here about baitcasters and it seems as though I can't go wrong here. Down to either a Revo SX for 140+tax or a Curado 200E7 for 148 incl shipping. BPS reel trade-in for the Revo deal or the Curado. TJ
