  1. know your riprap...locate voids where a rock seems "missing" as well as rocks that extend outward. these are great hiding spots for bass, especially if current is present. many fish have been caught from my boat in these types of situations. once these spots are logged, especially at lower or very clear water, fish will repeatedly show up here. oh yeah...pop-rs are my favourite in tight. TJ
  2. I saw the bobber and fly mentioned but no other variations on the bobber. what tool do we use that keeps exact depths better than a bobber? I use it on StClair when bass are off the bottom in 18 ft or so. using a senko or other lighter drop type plastics works and a bit of chop just makes the lure work better. yeah, I know its only 18 ft...lol TJ
  3. hilarious fun guys
  4. awesome practical joke...we're assuming that she has an unloaded gun! TJ
  5. I have carried needle nose pliers and/or hemos for many years but the last few yrs, I found that a HD set of long nose needle nose is more efficient. ever notice how lighter needles or hemos seem to twist when removing a stubborn hook? the HD set has no give. turn and out every time.
  6. if theres any wood around, try it. Ive read that bass move to accessible wood in muddy water.
  7. The poor boy (middle example) and the bass pro shops model work for me. Poor boy seems more suited to staying somewhat more horizontal due to less plastic towards the tail. These things work well on a c-rig too on StClair during slow times. TJ
  8. have fun fishing take a kid keep on learning TJ
  9. I believe that BASS was there in the last few yrs. maybe you can check their archives
  10. I see that dollars had the same idea...oops
  11. can you "time" your fish? often, bass will feed at around the same time in a 2-3 day interval although the time may get a bit later as days go on...depending if most conditions stay stable. when practicing, if you find bunches of bass feeding at diff times, cycle through them. just an idea. I fished with Steve Daniel on the Detroit River in a Top 150 on Lk StClair yrs ago and we fished like he was in FLA. he had them timed to the point that he told me when they would turn on and he was spot on for all 3 days. we were day 3 and the pattern held. TJ
  12. Adam-haven't been there in awhile but there used to be some very big LM in the Victoria Harbour and Waubaushene areas. do you fish there at all? how's it holding up? I loved fishing up there. TJ
  13. Adam-thanks for backing me up there. As you and I stated, this was before the goby was illegal to possess although I don't see it as a mistake. There were/are millions of them in the Detroit River. They couldn't be cleared out of the Detroit River if you tried! then and now. SWIM-thanks for acknowledging Adam and myself. We used some for bait but, believe me, we killed a ton. And if you are worried that this was irresponsible to move them, we are talking about catching at the mouth of the Detroit and using in adjoining StClair about 3-4 miles away. I NEVER transported gobies to other waters at any time. I was aware of the damage that could be done. They were already in StClair and in the areas that we fished...used to catch them on my hopkins. TJ
  14. before the gobies were made illegal to possess in Ontario, I would take my sons fishing at the Detroit River and catch a few dozen or more gobies the night before going for SM on StClair. we used the gobies on c-rigs and the SM killed them...no light hitting...they just KILLED them! TJ
  15. before all of this cold weather and its ramifications, how far north were there fishable populations of peacocks? not that theyre gone but could be damaged now. TJ
  16. Windsor (Detroit) crawfish, gobies, shiners, perch
  17. thoughts and prayers are with you
  18. JFrancho brought up a great point so I had to yap once more. You are so right. Real life attachment to our discussions with our kids makes issues so much clearer for them to see. Now that I've thought about it, this may be the ONLY good thing to come out of this mess. Thanks for reminding me. TJ
  19. cart-no, cheating is not a way of life up here. speed-yeah, I thought about that as I typed that line...oh well, and now I have to respond, too. lol the players cheated and management knew...they are NOT that stupid. now it's all on the players? c'mon guys...you can dislike whoever you want to but it's turned into a witch hunt. If anyone remembers, McGuire had a bottle of Andro in the open in his locker during interviews. There are pictures around. Gotta be sure that mgmt saw that. I am not condoning cheating, far from it. I prefer to enjoy today's baseball and, maybe naively, think that the game is clean today. Not sure what else I can say. Enjoy the chat. I'm done. TJ
  20. Sure is nice to have a target to shoot at, eh? How many of your favourite players played on juice? and you just don't know it yet? It is what it is...cheating...but it's really too bad that some players will go to their graves without anyone knowing that they were juiced and the public will continue to idolize them and demonize the outed guys. I don't care. What's done is done. I enjoy the game and won't waste my energy on this crap. TJ
  21. I'm relatively new to this site but I have looked around in here and found some great stuff...and the best is yet to come! thanks to all. TJ
  22. finding fish and trying to figure out where they'll go when they move...that and having to leave fish when they're biting. TJ
  23. can you get an underwater camera and a canoe/small boat? might reveal a few surprises. TJ
  24. In my early club tournament days, I was loyal to one local tackle shop. I would recommend him to others and his prices were very fair. As I started to fish the tour, he set me up with a very big rod/reel company. I could give him what he wanted (my time) and he helped me out with a pro staff deal that, even though not cash, helped me out tremendously. As I fished the Ontario tour, a few other mfgs approached me and offered goods but didn't ask for much in return. I appreciated this very much. I was told by a rep that if I ever needed support, just ask, from a major boat motor mfg but I had to kindly refuse. I couldn't give him the time that he deserved nor could I travel the distances req'd, and I told him that. Canada is big! I guess that the point is you should build a rep and be prepared to pay (even time) for what you get. In the end, it's better to build bridges than burn them. TJ
