  1. I would like to get some larger shiners to try some more fishing on toho on Friday. Not happy with our original source... If anyone can direct me I would appreciate it. thanks TJ PS...Lee and Salm...will fill you in soon...nothing great to report...yet.
  2. fill in the blank...buzz bait! I'm guessing a bunch of baits could reside here though. TJ
  3. way to go. sounds like a fun outing. TJ
  4. nice fish and nice patience. way to go! my sons and I will be out on Toho on Tues. hopefully we can find something. I have received some tips and info from the great people on this site. hopefully we can put them to good use. TJ
  5. Lee...good luck in the tournament tomorrow. We just got in after getting the essentials done. the 2 day ride was an adventure. All good except for my shredded boat cover...it was due, I guess. I have your mack info and will try to get to the weigh-in. Sat is unknown right now since they don't play much ball in the rain! Go get 'em. TJ
  6. welcome Bill. StClair is a buzz isn't it. take care. TJ
  7. guys and girls, I've been watching the boards and with our trip starting in one week, I would like to know if I'm getting TOO excited... if a warming trend starts now after all of this cold weather, will the bass move in heavy to spawn, especially with the moon phases showing an excellent period surrounding March 14? we should arrive Mar 12 and will fish Toho on and off all week. If I just get to see a 10+ on a bed, I think I'll wet my pants! PS...Lee...I'll be in touch soon. TJ
  8. sorry people, I've gotta cheat with two. beautiful May day on StClair with an XRap on for SM...or...a hot, muggy August day on a thick reed line with a flippin stick in my hands...anywhere in Ontario! TJ
  9. my hat's off to both teams. I thought I was going to puke when USA tied it at 2...just a very sick feeling after those 2 posts earlier in the 3rd. Burke did a great job with the American team and they played their hearts out. wow! that may be one of the 3-4 greatest games that I have ever seen. we did some partying with the crowds downtown after the game and my younger son had a blast...then I slept for 2 hrs and went into work...lol.
  10. FLK...ok, I'm with you on the NW point...and I'd put some........too! TJ
  11. please tell me...how the heck can you knock a driver who has driven indy and formula cars in excess of 230 mph??? so she's learning stock cars. it's too bad her learning curve is visible to all and not hidden away like many rookies have been. I guess what I'm getting to is, give her more than three races before condemning her...but, I'm with anyone who would rather see her run ARCA/Nationwide, maybe even ASA to get needed experience. as for her "driving straight" into wrecks, she hasn't lost her indy habit...when going into a wreck, pull your arms off the wheel and cross them across your chest. this keeps the indy driver's wrists from being broken. TJ
  12. JFrancho...now that's the coolest...and I'll bet you're giving back to kids big time. I enjoy teaching kids to fish, not necessarily for bass, but just to fish. If they like it, they'll expand, and I'll be there to help. I have a mystery person too. He helped me with T-rigs and rebel purple ringworms many moons ago at a Michigan campground. First time...tap-tap-tap...wow. TJ
  13. what if this was just a large spawning flat? the changing (for the better) weather may have been bringing in a bunch of bass at once. anyone know if this is a historical large spawning area? personally, as long as there is no rule against it, I don't have a problem with someone fishing release areas. I did it once in a tournament but didn't know it until after the event...just thought they were really good docks! probably many more fish around than we even knew.
  14. my cousin for starting me into fishing and my club friend Bruce for starting me into tournaments and a steeper learning curve. TJ
  15. x2 on the BPS qualifier 370. fits more than I need. I keep my rain suit and lunch in the below-deck storage. never had a question or even a raised eyebrow when I show up with this...and probably 5-6 rods (plus flip stick if reqd). TJ
  16. theoretically, tail down to disturb the bottom (read that in an article long ago)...when I flipped them it didn't matter
  17. Rhino really outlined the fact that this is not a yes/no answer. Just to add, learn/know your running times from your ramp to certain areas. Also, if weather blows up, don't always try to get back to the ramp. Find safe refuge nearby. I learned to boat in a 14 ft Lund on Lks Erie and StClair and the Detroit River, which is a major pleasure boater path. It was a bit intimidating at first but I learned, both myself and with pointers from others. The help was very important. Being in their boats in bad conditions allowed me to watch first hand. I don't look for trouble but I'm confident in most any conditions now. You will learn too. TJ
  18. In StClair it's the spinnerbait
  19. From experience...keep new flooring/decks as low as possible to keep center of gravity low. On top of existing benches should be ok. Use nylock nuts (have nylon locking insert) with an oversized outside diameter washer when bolting down a pedestal seat. T-nuts in the wood or nuts without washers can be dragged into the wood by your weight using the leverage of the pedestal. If you can't find a pre-made livewell to fit your bench, have a well made from galvanized sheet metal, sealed with solder. They last forever and seal easy with silicone if needed. My first boat was a Lund S-14, converted to a fishing rig. Had it a long time and I learned on the go how to upgrade it. If you have any questions, please PM me. Good luck. TJ
  20. geez, you couldn't get any more in the middle of the state, could you? nice to see another northern member here. TJ
  21. Eric...have a safe drive down. We will be leaving with our boat from Windsor (Detroit) on March 11 for Kissimmee and Toho. We booked a nice house 11 minutes from the ramp on Toho, a great deal. I'm getting pumped just typing this! TJ PS...I'm tired of this d**n snow, too!
  22. SM: pupfish LM: buzzbait both: pop-r/splash-it
  23. welcome Marc
  24. I've been working grave shift for 14 yrs so my body is already screwed up! that said, I never had a problem sleeping before tourneys back 30 yrs. funny thing is I always wake up and I'm wide awake immediately. my only butterflies show up in the short period just before the blast off, while just chillin in the boat! TJ
  25. welcome to the site. tons to learn here!
